The selection is as superb as I'd remembered, and I had a wonderful conversation with the young woman working there.

I am floored by the amount of books, in every single category imaginable. Yes, they have a large children's section. There is a giant plush figure standing near a black pole in front of the children's books. I checked out each floor. I'm a sucker for novelty items, which they have plenty of. They sell multiple models of Polaroid cameras and film. Tons of calendars in different formats. Their vinyl room is on the ground floor, in the back. The store is sleek, clean, and organized. If you're in Berlin, I recommend visiting this store.

Beyond an insane collection of books, they also have tons of very unique novelty items that make great gifts or, something for yourself-- something that you never knew you needed. This shop is a multilevel business. They have multiple floors with books and other items on every floor. Plus, it is just stuffed full with an insane amount of books covering all varieties to quench your reading experience. As mentioned, they are much more than just an incredible bookstore. They also have a great selection of vinyl. So, for all of you vinyl enthusiasts, this is a great place to go and find that unique piece of music that you've wanted either very recently or all the way back to when you were young. It's really hard to explain just how much this store offers. I mean, if you're looking for a specific book, it's more than likely they will have. And, if they don't, they can most likely get it for you. Dussmann's great places to sit around and take a look at that book you may be interested in purchasing. Or, you can go there and have interesting discussions with your friends or family about literature and/or anything else. This is truly a great shop! I had to refrain myself from buying a few because I did not have the extra space for them unfortunately in my luggage. Customer service is very friendly and professional. It's definitely worth a visit, if you would like to purchase something good to read in English or step up your book collection.

They have a good selection of Science Fiction and Fantasy in German, which I cannot comment on being utterly and repulsively monolingual, but they also have a gosh darn pretty big selection of English! Obviously, most of these are British editions, so you might want to stock up the brit version of your favorite reads as well as picking up something new for yourself! I was surprised to not see a few authors, such as Charles De Lint, but there was still plenty of things to tempt a gal! Also big plus, a couple cushioned benches to chill as you try to decide....

I emailed him and asked if he had any recommendations for book sellers in Berlin who might get it in, knowing that he'd done events in Berlin, he recommended Otherland and one other. The other was more convenient to our hotel, but they never answered their phone. Otherland was extremely helpful and courteous, and best of all - they got the book in before we left town. This is what a used book store should be: mostly hardbound books everywhere! Comfy chairs where you can sit and read. Decent prices. Sadly this is an endangered breed in the USA. I shall definitely pay them a visit if I get back to Berlin. Lovely neighborhood, lots of great shops. Bit of a walk to the U-Bahn though.

Not for the first time, I've had trouble getting ahold of something I'd ordered from them, except today there was the added insult of having been asked to pay for it in advance. Come tomorrow from 10 o'clock, they said, so I gave them an extra few hours and showed up at 1 to collect my books, only one of which was actually there. The worker seemed completely confused as to why this might not be an acceptable state of affairs. I asked for the one book that did actually make it there and she gave it to me, appearing insulted. I think it is unacceptable to make someone pay for a book that they clearly sell many of, being in such close proximity to the VHS Wassertorstraße, then not even have the decency to have it when it was promised to be there. Worse, they are not sure when my other book will come in. This is time in which I could have been purchasing my much-needed book from a decently-stocked shop. Dante however already has my money. Never again Dante.
