So my family and I stayed at the base for my sons assignment here and I have to say I was really impressed with how scenic and well cared for the space and its housing buildings are. We stayed in family housing so had the opportunity to explore and meet some of the staff on duty. Polite and respectful, the employees were super helpful and got us in and out here we needed to go. Layout of the base streets can be a bit confusing & even with the map we got a bit turned around. The signage isn't very visible in the evening so way too miss the streets. But overall a very nice AFB. read more

As an Army guy I really can't give an Air Force Base a solid review, however, it certainly gets the job done. Comparatively speaking, it's rather small, yet still has land mass like crazy! A golf course, which is becoming a rarity these days on bases/posts across the nation. And obviously it has all the other basics you need on a military installation. Consolidated Support is great for DEERS issues, ID cards and so on. The BX, though a bit small, is nice, plus it has a gun department. How cool is that? Tax free guns, baby! Merica! read more

One of the most familiar bases... has almost everything you would need! Food, swimming pools, grocery shopping, guns & ammo, a park for a picnic lunch, a movie theatre, and always some sort of special event going on (they also host the Thunderbirds most years). I check in so often, I feel obligated to finally leave a review. It's an Air Force Base. No glitz or glamour. I've been to many and this was is as bare bones as one gets. Its tucked away and not too obstructive to the City. The amenities are basic. Commissary, BX, arts and crafts shop, Auto shop... Nothing terribly special but understandable because there is alot of competition outside the base. Getting on and off base in the morning and afternoon can be a challenge as the traffic bottlenecks, but that's expected at any secure facility. Overall.. It's a base. Enough said. read more

Loved the 1 bedroom suite here! It was very inexpensive! Nice place to stay!

Stayed in Temp Living (TLC) and it was very clean, spacious with fenced in back yard for our cat. Daily cleaning service was a great bonus and it's super inexpensive! Overall we were very comfortable. My only complaint was the soft bed. felt like I was beaten up... prefer a firm mattress. The base is spread out and has a lovely, small green park (Hardin) with shaded walking path which made me feel at home instantly as I'm an east coast girl. . Lots of paths run throughout the housing areas and connect everything so lots of options to take walks in the lovely cool evenings or early mornings. Just moved into our permanent housing ......is really nice, very large & also very clean. Huge 2 car garage, Large front porch...postage stamp backyard with privacy fencing...... I don't mind a tiny piece of privacy in the backyard!!! Very happy! read more

Kirtland AFB is where I work and where my children go to school. It provides a sense of safety that I don't get off base.

It was A-Ok. I went there to the consolidated support the day before thanksgiving, The person manning the DEERS seems not happy to be working there. I wonder if they are on holiday mood already. No one was at the desk, took a while before someone asked us if we need anything. I guess it depends who was assigned there. read more

Kirkland Air Force Base is one of the biggest employers here in ABQ. if you can get a job on the federal installation you will be well taken care of as far as safety and somewhat job security. They have a variety of jobs on the installation from nuclear engineers to janitorial services. Not a bad place to work or to raise a family. read more

I wonder why people think Hardin Field is a Dog Park and let their dogs off leash? It is not a dog park and All dogs are required to be on leash!!! All you are doing is creating a safety issue letting your dog loose to run upon other people and their leashed dogs! Please stop it and Kirtland please enforce this. People who complain about air force bases have never been in the Army. Kirtland is a nice base with nice facilities and Albuquerque is a great small city. read more

What a nightmare to sit at all the gates at Kirtland on a Friday evening,during a storm, for hours, trying to get off the base, with no explanation from security. Try searching for base security on the Kirtland web site. Thank God there wasn't an emergency, though there were felled trees everywhere. Cars were allowed in, with no problem. But we, and hundreds of others were trapped. read more

If you are told what to do about anything by a gruff and less than cordial camper who lives on the new side of the Kirtland AFB RV campground, please do a great service for current and future campers by sending a note about your interaction with this person to the Interactive Customer Evaluation (ICE) website: http://ice.disa.mil (click on Air Force, CONUS, Kirtland, and Facility Management). This camper's site looks like she is homesteading there but she is not the campground host! The host lives on the older side of the park by the campground office (her site number is posted outside the office if you need assistance after hours, and she is quite pleasant). We were not the first people to be told by the gruff and less than cordial camper to not park our RV next to her site because it was reserved. In fact, the space is not reserved but she keeps placing parking cones there to keep campers from parking next to her! During our last stay at Kirtland a few months ago, this same woman actually told me to not bring my dogs into the dog park until she took her dogs out! I waited in my truck for the 5-10 minutes it took her to leave because I think I was too dumbfounded to do otherwise! There have apparently been more than several issues with this camper and people need to speak up by way of the ICE website so that complaints get to the proper officials. read more
