They are located on the 5th floor of a health centre not far from the Friedrichshain hospital. I got the impression they receive patients from there for treatment. Thomas Dressler is an excellent therapist who is thoughtful and methodical. He was able to clearly explain the procedures and reasoning behind exercise while providing great care. (We spoke in German so I cannot vouch for the teams ability to deal with English patients). Appointments were punctual. Overall a good therapist and office.

It's offered in English and separate dates in German. A friend in the US who is a doula recommended to me a few months ago to take a birthing class that is entirely separate from the hospital where you anticipate giving birth in order to have a fresh opinion that is independent of the routine that a hospital operates. My thoughts: i feel a lot more confident in giving birth here knowing not only what I can expect during labor and delivery personally, but what's common in Germany and what I can probably request at any hospital in terms of treatment. While I know it's important to be mentally ready for any hiccups in a birth, I feel like I have been given the tools to prepare in the months ahead for a birth closer to what I want. The class included exercises, Q&As, simple explanations of how different hormones work during labor and delivery, slideshows of births, short movies and ample breaks to stay refreshed. My partner who is German but still didn't know anything about labor found the course beneficial as well. Highly recommended to all. If you are an expat looking for a pregnancy or prenatal class in Berlin - this one is highly recommended on the expats Facebook group too.

It's June, which means my allergy season is in full effect right now. This was something I totally…read moreneglected to think about until it was already upon me, and I realized I only had a few weeks of Allegra-D left. After finding out the German name from a doctor friend, I decided to see an allergist. Need allergy medicine? See an allergist. Makes sense, right? Except that every English-speaking allergy doctor I came across was booked for months. That wouldn't do. Instead, I decided to see a regular practitioner. Of course, I encountered a similar problem. All the doctors were either booked for months, or on the other side of town. I, for one, would like to be able to walk a few blocks or take a short bike ride to see mine. Well thank goodness for aerzte-berlin.de - I was able to put in advanced criteria and when looking for English-speaking doctors in my neighborhood, came across one just a couple blocks away. I quickly called and was told to come in and wait. The reception area is super small and it took a while to be helped, although I don't think that was any fault of the people working. Once I registered, I waited in an adjoining room for maybe 5 or 10 minutes before I was seen. The wall is covered in (faded) reprints of Van Gogh and Monet paintings - a nice touch when compared with some of the awful art I've seen on office walls elsewhere. The seats were multi-coloured with shiny plastic shells - they reminded me of M&Ms... I can't say anything about Dr. Cotanidis, but as for Dr. Engert, he was great. I immediately told him that I heard he spoke English, and he switched right away - and speaks it well! He sat down with me, took the time to not only hear what I needed but also ask the appropriate follow-up questions, and then accompanied me to the front and waited until my prescription was given to me. All in all, the experience was about 30 minutes. I got what I came for and left with a good impression. Extra note: In addition to speaking English (and German), Turkish is also spoken here.

I went to Dr. Liccini for pain in my legs…read more First, I was refused treatment unless I paid $50 in cash since my health insurance was from a private company. When I asked if this could be done via transfer since, I was not carrying that cash at the time, I was told to leave. I left and took money out of the bank with sore legs, could barely walk. Then stood in the waiting room for 40 mins. My major problem is with the diagnosis. I was told to take pain medication and stay off the legs for 4 weeks. There was no further investigation into what could be causing the problem. no ultra sounds, no referral.. which I find extremely careless and irresponsible. Now, 5 months later after seeing another Doctor, I am finally closer to a diagnosis, since being to an orthopedist and radiologist.

Doctor Liccini didn't bother with an examination and was unable to find my condition (as I described it as well as I could) on the list on her computer, so she just picked something else that she thought was a bit like it (nothing like it at all, in fact). She then offered some ill informed opinions on Scottish independence. Note to self and others - avoid.

Jes…read moreand Keatyn overcharged me and my husband and repeatedly sent a substitute doula (who we liked a lot but would have preferred to hire directly as she charges 20 euros less an hour and doesn't charge VAT). For something so personal as a doula, it felt frankly odd to me that Keatyn and Jes seem to have overextended themselves as they were challenging to schedule with and cancelled sessions several times. In the end, we never even met Jes in person because it would have been annoying to have to keep explaining our baby's routine to her so we decided to stick with the substitute doula which worked well. Even though Jes came off as a friendly and supportive person, in the end, she honestly reminded me of wedding vendors who oversell their services, add a sense of time pressure to sign a contract, and then underperform. This all added to my stress postpartum.

I was looking for an English speaking doula and was contacted by Jes Walsh who offered her services in mid-January. Being an expat in Berlin and unfamiliar with the system here so I knew I could use support at the birth because I've never been through this before. A doula I know from my home country suggested that I enlist a doula for my birth because the support could be useful especially from someone familiar with the birth process and who has trained and attended other births. Berlin Doula Jes Walsh who works out of Kreuzberg, wasn't available to meet until the end of February and suggested to meet at a cafe. A leading Berlin midwife / hebamme advised me that this was unprofessional location choice because of the personal nature of the conversation we would be having. At the advice of this midwife and from other pregnant mothers, I decided to give her the address to my home and she agreed to meet there. She arrived late without calling. During our meeting, she faced away from my partner even though she was within a few feet from him. Maybe she is more comfortable around women but it just seemed a bit cold. At the end of our meeting she asked me if I would like to work together, and said she would like to bring me on as a client, would like to meet within a month to go over more details and would like to send a contract over to ensure we would be working together. I looked forward to getting that contract except days passed and I never heard from her. WHO INITIATES MOVING FORWARD THEN SAYS AND DOES NOTHING? I reached out to her via email thanking her for meeting me and asking to review her contract. Only when I reached out, did she inform me of her thoughts and her response was odd to say the least. SHE STATED THAT SHE DOESN'T THINK SHE HAS ENOUGH EXPERIENCE. I read her email a few times, because I couldn't believe someone listed their experience online and in person but then CONTRADICTED all that she previously said and wrote about herself. I wondered why she is advertising herself as a doula offering labor support if she feels this way about herself. I think anyone looking for a doula in Berlin to have labor support, especially with the shortage of midwives / beleghebamme / hebammen should look elsewhere for another english speaking one. THIS DOULA ADMITTED HER LACK OF EXPERIENCE AND IT SHOULD BE A WARNING TO OTHERS. Shortly after this review went up, an new account was created to write a 5-star review for her. I would be very nervous to hire a doula with a situation like this happening.

I have been to Doctor Dagmar Frese-Beuthner 3 times in the past year and a half and I can't ask for…read morea better, more patient and understanding doctor. I don't know if she speaks English. But on my first visit I just took a shot with my bad German, and we kind of established our relationship in that language. She has a very sweet demeanor, and I feel really comfortable with her. She's given me good advice, and yeah. If you're sick and need to see a doctor in the Reuterkiez she's a good one.

I had to get a second knee implanted in that time, and got run over by dogs resulting in the other knee broken....was not an easy patient! Highly recommend him.
