The garden was created by Prussian landscape architect Peter Joesph Lenné (the Younger). Oskar von Arnim married to Otto von Bismarck's sister Malwine von Bismarck lived here. During the second world war the Japanese embassy relocated here from Berlin, then the red army took over, it became a tuberculosis hospital and was finally rebuilt. Besides being a historic landmark with a history dating back to the 18th century, couples love it as a wedding ceremony venue. The nearby gothic church, originally built after the tragic death of one on the von Arnim children, is impressive.

The latter allowed us to go to the nearby beautiful sandy beach of Zippendorf and shower on our return to the hotel before heading back home. My wife and I went to the beautiful town of Schwerin to watch an open air opera ( Aida) which took place in a gorgeous setting between the magnicient castle, the museum and the opera house. We stayed 2 nights at this hotel which is about 10 minutes drive to the center. The room and bathroom were very clean and functional, we were at ground floor level so we could virtually park our car just in front. The buffet breakfast was great. In fact it was just perfect for the price.

He made sure that we had a wealth of historical information about everywhere we went. He also figured out the best way to accommodate one of our group who was on crutches - without missing a beat. He even bought strawberries for us to enjoy!
