Been here several times, it's really one of the better movie theaters I've been to in the world…read more You can buy your tickets at the window, but they also have a few kiosks in front. Movies are a bit different in Brazil, you're going to get assigned seats so make sure you buy your tickets early so you can pick a good location - no need to wait in line early. This theater has a bookstore, a café, and a small snack shop as well. Popcorn and pop are ridiculously cheap here. Compare it to the U.S. where you're going to pay $20 for a large of each. Here they cost around R$15. Most of the movies are shown with subtitles, but make sure you pay attention when buying the tickets because some (like almost all animated films) are dubbed. The theater is a bit cold, but the seats are super comfortable and the image and sound are great. An excellent place to go on a rainy or lazy day.

I doubled checked their website before leaving and it said there was a 4:20 showing of the film. This has happened close to 40% of the time I come for a matinee at this theater. I will take my business elsewhere for matinees. If you do show up for a matinee be prepared for a wasted trip.

Honestly don't even bother. This theater is old, dingy, and in serious need of an update. The seats…read moreare cloth, and the foam padding wore out a long time ago. The floor has absolutely no slope to it whatsoever, so even when you are sitting in the back, the screen is very high up in the air. Speaking of the screen, I swear that these days they make bigger LCD screens for your house. This was probably the smallest movie theater screen I have ever seen. In addition to that, the projector that they used (It seemed to be a digital projection) did not have a very broad contrast ratio, so most of the darker colors all kind of bled into a general black murkiness, and the whites all blared out and looked overexposed. Seeing as I was watching Spectre, a major hollywood film, I assume that these problems with the contrast and depth of color were not on the film producer's end, but rather on the projector's end. As if the whole experience wasn't bad enough, a staff member threw open the doors and came in with a remote control to turn off the air conditioning (*beeep, beeep... beeep*) about 7 minutes before the film even ended. I'm not talking about during the credits, I'm talking about the actual last 7 minutes of the film itself! The light flooding into the theater made it almost impossible to make out what was happening on the already struggling screen. After several audience members shouted at the employee who was doing all of this, he went back and closed the doors. All-in-all, this was a horrible place to see a movie, and very expensive on top of all of it all! If you want to go to an older theater that actually still has some charm to it, I would recommend Cinema Roxy, which is in Copacabana near post 5.
