All of the vendors were super friendly and most offered different forms of payment (cash, card, venmo). There were some vendors who only accepted cash, however, there's several ATM's across the street!

The market is fully around the four sides of the capitol building as well as another off branch down a street for artisan goods. It was nice to see so many local vendors from all throughout Wisconsin. The variety of products being sold was impressive; from baked goods, breads, flowers, produce, honey, sauces, meats, popcorn, sweet treats, and no shortage of cheeses! It took us about 75 minutes to fully walk and enjoy the market. I could not recommend this market more to anyone visiting Madison! We were looking…read morefor a new to us market to visit and decided to go to the Grayslake market right before they switched to the summer markets on Wednesdays. The market is located in downtown area so there were tons of street parking and shops to hop in and out of while venturing the market. The vendors are all local and are super friendly! We always seem to end to find something. But I also love the variety. The only thing is that there are so many vendors and the booths are rather close together so it's often an ant farm getting through, you move in one direction and commit all the way through. (At least this was the case the two times we went!)

It…read morewas in very early spring, or maybe it was early summer actually, and there were very few vendors there. So my next visit wasn't until the summer and boy what a difference. Once the summer kicks in, there is quite a variety to choose from. The produce itself can be really really good or really underwhelming. Sometimes it is hit or miss. The other things of the farmers market, like Lesters Bison and Nana's Rum Cakes and Wildflower Bakery and the wine tastings they have really help to balance out all of those nutritious fruits and vegetables-makes it worth it. It's all about balance, right? ha ha One of my friends turned me onto the Lesters Bison vendor, and I will say if you're trying to cut back on fat and calories and cholesterol, this is the way to go. So now instead of using ground beef, I try and pick up some ground bison. We also tried the bison patties already formed and they were really great. We weren't sure what to expect but I kid you not, very flavorful and juicy. If this was regular ground beef and it was that thin, it would have been dull, tasteless and dry- the difference was very surprising. They also have tons of cuts of steak (ribeye was of course delish), and other choices like elk, etc. Let me just say this for the record: get your ass to Nana's Rum Cakes! You will not regret this. This is rum cake on a whole nother level. The couple that sells them, one of which is Nana, is charming, delightful. And I love supporting local business, but the spectacular taste of these rum cakes is what keeps you going back. I'm an addict for life now. I like the plain-vanilla or the plain-vanilla with nuts, but my husband is a drag and doesn't like the nuts, hehe, so I sacrifice for him. ha ha While the chocolate rum cake was okay, we both agreed it was not as special. But the plain-vanilla and with nuts is not to be missed. The market is especially lovely in the late summer or early fall. Two days ago it was just gorgeous. And there are a lot of vendors to choose from. You can go to their website and see which vendors will be there which week. It's very user friendly. Summer hours are 3-7 on Wednesdays, but they are soon switching for the new fall schedule which is on Saturday (mornings, I believe?), so hit up the website for hours. Why aren't you there yet?? Do you love sunflowers? Blueberries? Chickens? Or farms?…read more Then schedule a trip to Blue Clay Berry Farm. Located near Lake Geneva, it was a fun stop during a weekend trip. Entry is a bargain at $2 per adult. The field of sunflowers was so beautiful. After being greeted by a couple of cute helpers, we were off to explore the rows of giant sunflowers. Each stem was a bargain at $1 each or 6 for $5. Great place to take photos as well. Although we were a bit too late in the season to pick a bushel of blueberries, we were able to pick a handful for a sweet little midafternoon snack. While at the farm, you can also visit the calves and chickens. We also picked up a dozen of the freshest eggs for $3.50 per dozen. So delicious. Thanks to Ella and her helpers for showing us the farm, letting us pet the calves and helping us explore the rows and rows and rows of giant sunflowers. Definitely an unexpected highlight of our lake getaway.

The Monona Farmer's Market is where it's at!…read more IF you like the following few things... 1) A smaller market, with fewer people. 2) A good selection of products, ranging from fresh produce, to bake goods, to dog treats, to FRESH lemonade. 3) FREE parking, right next to the market, let me say this again, FREE parking RIGHT NEXT to the market. I do have a couple vendors that I regularly visit. 1. Chippy's popcorn- the popcorn and fresh lemonade are delicious 2. K and C bakery- Ohhhhh the cookies!!!!! 3. Spark Spices- the spice blends are AMAZING 4. Natalie's Greenhouse- the fresh veggies and hanging basket flowers are top notch!

Of course they have fruits, veggies, popcorn, interesting looking mushrooms, jellys and jams, salsas, and flowers, but Farmer Johns' Cheeses, Stalzy's Deli baked goods, and Stella's famous cheese bread is represented here too. You can even score some rare items like ghost and fatali peppers toward the end of the summer. They even have a Hmong family that have a stall that pumps out egg rolls, stuffed chicken wings, bubble tea, and chicken for there or to go. Feel free to hang out and make the rounds, talk to the farmers, have a bite, and listen to a few tunes. If you are pressed for time before football starts on a Sunday, simply park in Ahuska Park, grab what you need, and be out in less than 5 minutes. Enjoy and support local businesses and families.

Gorgeous wedding venue!…read more Whew...I had to get that out of the way so you would know why in the world I was reviewing a farm in Rockton, IL. We visited this past weekend for one of the most lovely weddings that I have ever been to as a guest. The grounds are immaculate! There was ample parking for the guests (although this was a non-issue as many of the guests took shuttle buses). The staff was unobtrusive and very polite the entire evening. So I'll take you through a few of the finer points. The ceremony was held high on the hill. We rode in a tram (sorta like at the zoo) pulled by a John Deere. Wanna know what I call that? Awesome! This was the perfect start to our grand adventure. At the top of the hill, the ceremony site was setup beautifully! Now, I think the bride and groom had a lot to do with that based on their customIzed backdrop, outdoor chandelier(!) and vintage doors that the wedding party walked through as they came down the aisle. Regardless, it was so picturesque. After the ceremony we walked down the side of the hill. This wasn't the best move for those in heels after two hours of rain a bit earlier in the day, but there were no injuries to speak of, so it was still pretty successful. As we walked down, we were treated to a view of a gorgeous pond and water fountain. At the foot of the hill, we spent our cocktail hour inside and outside at the back of the building. This was much nicer than I have just made it sound. There were tables set up for those who wished to sit outside and there were tables setup inside and out for those who wished to stand and mingle. The live music was setup right inside the sliding doors, so everyone could enjoy the full effect of the music no matter where they were. The bar was setup inside for easy access. Both an appetizer buffet and butler passed appetizers were available for munching. Now, I think all of the food was catered by the Hoffman House, but just in case I am wrong, I want to make sure to mention how delicious all of the appetizers were. The bacon wrapped water chestnuts were probably my favorite option that was available. After the cocktail hour, we went around to the front of the building to pick up our placecard and enter the main portion of the building. Gorgeous dark wood all around made the entire experience feel rich and luxurious. I loved it! A full bar was setup just inside the door. I think there were about fifteen tables of ten setup. I would guesstimate that they could probably fit twenty to twenty-two tables in this space easily. Maybe more if they used the space toward the back of the building. Buffet lines were setup on both sides of the building. The head table had perfect placement and really took center stage as it should! They have sliding glass doors on three sides of the building (which I think was a restored barn) which made for some beautiful lighting as the sun went down. As the night wore on, the doors were opened for the most amazing cross breeze. Overall, this was a fabulous site for a wedding ceremony and reception. I have no idea how the planning went or the costs involved, but as a guest, I would graciously accept an invitation to an event here again without hesitation. It was truly a night made in heaven and the atmosphere was ideal!

It isn't as busy as Beloit, not as many vendors, but being smaller allows to talk more to the vendors and learn about their products. We discovered a knife and tool sharpening service and the time we went we took a bunch of tools for sharpening. Very good job! The popcorn vendor has a unique blend of salt and sugar, which is tasty. There is a man who creates yard items and I purchased a potting table from him. A gorgeous piece. Great craftsman. They had plants, some vegetables, but we have been told by the organizer as summer continues, additional vendors will be bringing more produce. Bonus, we get to walk through the nursery and see what's new!
