My wife and I had had our wonderful wedding reception at Kingsweston House a few years ago and I was thus especially looking forward to going back there for a Mother's Day treat for my wife with our little girl in tow. Oh dear. For a start, we should have seen the major ladybird infestation on the side by our table on the inside of two windows, a number of which fell to the ground near our table (and one on me) during the meal. I ordered beef (some of which I considered using for a broken shoe sole at home since it was so tough) and my wife had the salmon with our daughter having chicken. The girl who served us hadn't much of a clue about the wine menu or the soft drinks menu, there was a dirty mop and bucket in the corner of the restaurant and the vegetables were very undercooked (on the edge of being raw) and almost inedible, The veg protion was absolutely huge and way too much for two adults and a small child. We specifically ordered a childs menu which we got in the main course but the dessert we all chose was the cheesecake. The portions that my wife and I had were enormous and too much for us but the childs portion had not been scaled down so she got the same size as us. When we ordered coffee at the end, it arrived without milk (I had to go and ask the main receptionist), the dirty main course plates took ages to be cleared, the ramekin of horseradish stayed on the table throughout the entire meal, and worst of all, my little girl accidentally dropped some paper napkin into the jug of water. On apologising to the waitress and requesting a fresh jug of water, she returned with a full jug of fresh water - with the paper still in the jug !! The main light had at least three bulbs not working and finally, I had to wait absolutely ages for the bill to arrive, despite most tables being empty and the restaurant not being particularly busy. In the ladies' loo, there was also apparently a broken paper towel bin. All in all, a real disappointment to a previous memory, especially since the meal came to over £50. We will, therefore, definitely be avoiding this place in future sadly and would recommend others to do the same. read more
