But wouldnt mark it down for that as tasted beautiful. We had fireworks refered by orchardeligh which went down great with our guests. Stunning grounds, beautiful old house, great attention to detail in the decorand above all, wonderful service, staff and organisation. They cater for receptions from about 50 to 144, they have on site accommodation for about 120, loads of parking, a golf course, a pretty church on an island with no electricity so it has to be lit by candlesneed I go on? I will anyway civil ceremonies are held in the 'Great Hall' in front of a huge romantic fireplace (not sure how a fireplace can be romantic but I guess on your wedding day, anything can happen). This means the aisle is a little narrow to walk down, but it was cosy and we had no problems with it. They have two reception rooms connected by a wide archway for the wedding breakfast/buffet or entertainment; The Ballroom and The Blueroom. Each stunning and opulent. They only charged £5 corkage per person rather than an amount per bottle (which saved us thousands!) and the food was delicious (although my dress didn't allow much room for me to take advantage of it!). My new husband and I stayed in the 'penthouse' cottage - called the Bell Tower - for two nights. They have a village of cottages just a two minute walk from the main house. We put all our younger friends in these and several stayed an extra night for a relaxed Sunday eating pizza and singing karaoke. I can't recommend this place enough.

Fillet steak minced with pickles and mustard through it, it was quite fiery actually, I think there was quite a bit of Tabasco in it too but it really enhanced the dish. Wasn't sure about the raw egg yolk served on top but I was pleasantly surprised. I opted for a bottle of the Pinot noir which was nice and subtle, the more expensive of the wines at 30ish quid. But that was at the top of the price range on the wine list so quite reasonable really for all the wines ( it helped I wasn't paying too! ). For the main I went for the sirloin steak, served with fries and the best pepper sauce I have EVER tasted. Yes The Yeoman - it beat yours! (can't believe I just said that). I asked for it to be cooked rare but it was slightly overdone. Usually I would have sent it back but it was so tasty I didn't actually need to. Everyone else was thoroughly enjoying theirs too. For pudding I shared a cheese board and again was transported through those pearly white gates. The cheese's where magnific! Melt in your mouth blue, Brie to die for, a lovely smoked one which I thought I wouldn't like. Yum. Yum. YUM! My friends chose the baked Alaska which was flambé'd at the table, it looked amazeballs. Stayed here for a wedding last weekend and the hotel was absolutely amazing. there is absolutely…read morenot on single bad word i could say about anything. i only wish i had gotten the name of some of the staff so i could thank them. the setting is magnificent. it really is like staying in a castle. the girl on check-in, (the small blonde, i can say that being vertically challenged myself) was so nice to us; my aunt wanted to check in early for a nap and we swapped rooms and she was great and so helpful with everything. the wedding itself was amazing and a special thanks to the manager who looked after the whole thing, he was fantastic. i know it was Andy or Adam, i want to say Adam. he is an absolute credit to your hotel, a great advertisement for you. the bar didn't stop serving me till 4am which might be the only thing id change, but just for me. lol. send me to bed. breakfast was great. now i just have to pray that some other of my relatives gets married here.

The breakfasts were great by UK standards. The room was fine it was big. As with a lot of places in Europe that didn't have air conditioning and didn't have screens on the windows. We had called ahead and asked for sheets on the beds which we appreciated them doing I enjoyed exploring the grounds and the English Gardens. There were sheep nearby which I enjoyed walking to see. As a part of our room we were told we got an hour in the spa so in the US that means massage facial pedicure that's not what that means there. It meant that you got an hour in there pool jacuzzi area which I thought was very strange. And I figured if they were giving you a time like that that we'd have it all to ourselves not not at all nope nope nope nope. I've never been at a place that had a pool and a jacuzzi and they gave you only an hour that was really weird. But they did have a sauna and steam room also that counted in the meager hour that you were given. Personally I didn't like that policy. There's not a whole lot around that area so anything you go do you're spending quite a bit in transportation. But this is the nicest place in the area. A great place to have an event like a wedding. There's things around the facility that tell the history of the building which is interesting to read about it was a hospital and I think even a prison. But either way it is very well restored my husband's company thought about buying it for their headquarters and I'm glad they didn't because they wouldn't have did it justice. It needed a lot of money to make it gorgeous again.

We were pretty certain what we wanted to serve at our wedding from the start; A choice of 3 Pieminister pies for main A choice of 3 desserts And a large cheese wedding cake, with breads, pickles, fruits etc for the evening Sue was utterly fantastic right from the beginning, when she responded to our request quickly to tell us that everything we wanted was possible, and and supplied a very reasonable quotation - we were already so impressed we put down our deposit for the catering more than a year in advance. We were on a strict budget, and so had to buy a lot of the extras for guests ourselves (like nibbles, post ceremony drinks, table wine and bubbly), expecting that we would ask a family member to pop the wine on the table and let the guests serve themselves. However, Topline were able to offer us waiter service service for the drinks if we hired the drinks glasses through them, which saved us a fortune, and allowed us to serve our favourite drinks and wines. With about 6 months to go until the big day, Sue visited our house to run through the complete plan for the day - finalising our menu choices and how the drink are arrangements for the day would work - so we could send out 'menu options' with our guests invitations. However Sue made sure that we knew that we could make changes to the numbers and the menu up until a few weeks before the big day. On the day itself the Topline Team were absolutely superb, and worked together so well. Folly Farm is quite an unusual venue for a wedding, as it is very 'do it yourself' (one of the reasons we chose it) - and we were expecting to rely on the family to co-ordinate the various stages of the day. However, the Topline staff truly went above and beyond the service level of the 'catering team', and pretty much ran the whole day for us. The lovely young girls who served out post ceremony drinks (sloe gin and cloudy apple juice) out in the sunshine were plagued with wasps, and didn't complain, even though one of them was unfortunately stung - They were real troopers! The staff who served the meals were so organised, and made sure every guest had the right meal, even though the menu was complicated and had a lot of options. The ladies who served the bar throughout the day were so friendly, and really made the guests feel welcome. In fact, we had a lot of feedback from our guests telling us how friendly and welcoming all of the staff were - they took the time to talk to the guests and make them feel at home. And last but not least the lovely lady who stood in for Sue to manage the day was an absolute gem, and I'm really sorry that I can't remember her name. She found me the day before the wedding when I was putting up the decorations at the Farm to give me some reassurance that everything would run smoothly, and to let her know if I needed or wanted anything throughout the day. (And I didn't, it all ran perfectly - the only request made was to put some more of the cheese out on the evening buffet, as she had kindly removed some of it for is to take home!) We also used Topline to run the bar, which again was another triumph. Sue made sure she bought in the drinks that I had suggested the guests would most like, and offered them at a very reasonable price indeed. All in all, Topline were the perfect choice for our big day - and gave us everything we wanted and more. They did it all for a very reasonable price, and with first class service. Thank you so much.

We opted for a buffet service but wanted a mixture of hot and cold dishes so they made a perfectly customised menu for us. The quality, presentation and quantity of the food were just right to our liking and our guests loved them too. We even had enough to fill us up all throughout the night of the party. The staff were all very attentive and friendly. The arrangement during the day of the wedding and for the rental of several things we needed went very smoothly. One I saw recentley was brilliant, it was called '44 Walks' by Hannah Sullivan, she marked out various walks she had taken through Paris and presented them very imaginativly and beautifully. You can also find numerous photographers, website designers, sculptors, architects, a drawing school, a record company. It seems like anybody who is anyone comes a sets up camp at the Paintworks. The website is fantastic and keeps you informed of whats going on at the Paintworks. If you have a free afternoon I recomend going to Bocabar, having a coffee and a little chat with who ever's there and find out what's going on.

Wildfire are the creators of the beautifully produced 0117 annual review of all things original and contemporary in Bristol, featuring designers such as Derek Edwards of Patwa Design, who also rents space at Paintworks (and is who is responsible for introducing me to 0117 - thanks, I owe you!) Tangent Books are a little longer in the tooth. An off-shoot of Faragher and Jones in Bath, they came to Bristol about four years ago, when Richard Jones decided that he wanted an office a little closer to home. Being a resident of Totterdown for many years, it was a no-brainer for Richard to decide to rent space at Paintworks. I really love visiting this peaceful creative haven, just far enough out of the city centre for it to enjoy a calmness all of it's own, but still very easy to get to. I always call into Bocabar for at least a coffee, but if I have time I indulge in a meal. I've been to quite a few events at Paintworks, held in their cavernous rentable space beneath Bocabar.
