I am a sucker for decorations in my foam and the coffee didn't taste burnt at all( what a relief, so many places burn their espresso) It was a pretty close walk along the river from where I was staying but I noticed there was plenty of street parking around. When I walked in, I was greeted by really pleasant servers (one was an american, woot!) and they mentioned that they had free wifi (wireless internet) which really saved me! There were lots of tables and some outlets available for laptops. Seems like a good place to get some studying in. I will definitely frequent this place the next time I am in Sheffield.

I opted for a simple croissant and bottle of passionfruit Lemonaid (the only other place I've seen this recently is Ezra & Gil in Manchester, so I didn't want to pass up on the opportunity!) but the savoury food counter is really worth mentioning. There are bowls of salad piled high, sandwiches, and a selection of meats you can add to your selection. Everything looked really vibrant and fresh. My croissant was served warm with butter and jam, which is always a plus in my book. The warmed panatone my colleagues ordered looked - and smelt - delicious also. A really friendly place with bags of personality and warmth. The development of Kelham Island will presumably only be a good thing for them!

Absolutely brilliant traditional pie and they also claim to be the home of "THE FIRST AND ONLY ORIGINAL BAKEWELL PUDDING". The place is quite small but hosts a great amount of variety each more tempting than the other. It's almost like the food shouting out to you "you gotta try me or you've missed something brilliant". The prices are absolutely reasonable and I got about dinner for 4 of us for under a £10.3 including dessert. They also hoard a bespoke collection of 60 local and British cheeses. The beef cheek was unctuous, and the vegetable accompaniment has lovely notes of cinnamon and juniper in the slaw portion. The hunters stew was filling but not heavy, and well seasoned. The oscypek cheese starter is similar to halloumi, with a firm, salty chew that gets your tastebuds going. The beer selection covers the gamut of Polish beers, from light lagers to raisin-y bocks (Koźlak). There's a wide range of vodka cocktails we did not try, plus ciders and wines. And the truly house made desserts are worth saving room for. I usually pass on dessert, but the cheesecake (not sweet) and poppyseed cake were too much to resist -- and I'm glad we didn't. So filling we brought half back home. The staff was friendly, and our waitress was charming and helpful, and even helped me understand the variations of the gołabki cabbage rolls that my grandmother had called galumpkies. Turns out there are many versions (and names) of these stuffed rolls across Eastern Europe. Now I know! Definitely worth putting on your York agenda.
