A lovely pub that was recommended to us by the owner/manager/teacher at Croyde Surf Academy, where I had just come from after working up a huge appetite in the surf!
The bar is pretty light and very welcoming and the staff was as welcoming as any place we have been to in Devon (very welcoming, in case you wondered).
The place to go if the sun is out though, is the raised terraced area around the back. It gets the full day sun, is peaceful, has patio doors that open onto upstairs dining room so is easy to get to the bar and the marble tables out there warm up in the sun and turn into something of a stone hot plate - which was nice.
The burgers are definitely a good choice if coming for food. You can get the basic for about £8/9 and then you can stack the ingredients to your hearts content (blue cheese, jalapeño peppers, cheddar, onions, bacon, etc.) and they are beautifully presented to the table on big chunky wooden boards by the chef himself.
As for parking, best head for the village car park just around the corner, there is not much space on the road outside! read more
