OMG! One of my favourite yum cha places in Adelaide, located on gouger street, this place serves a diverse range of dishes from lunch to dinner of Chinese cusines. There's plenty of room, you don't have to wait too long if you didn't book a table and the staff are so friendly and efficient here. There's plenty of customers eating here so it's all a good sign that this place is good.
If you have yumcha before 12 noon then you can receive a 20% discount so that is a definite thumbs up if you love discounts.
Upon entering the doors on a late Sunday afternoon, the decor is very Chinese orientated, a vibrant feel to it as I step into another country. I'm greeted by staff and grab a table of two and it was already after 230 and they were still serving yum chat at this time.
Yum cha in Cantonese means 'Drink Tea' which involves drinking Chinese tea and eating dim sum. Steamed or fried snacks served in either bamboo baskets or plates, which can be shared and there is a wide variety of dishes to choose from such as dumplings, steamed buns, sticky rice, congee, chicken feet to fried vegetables.
Today I ordered
*Four Types Seafood dumping - great variety of different types of seafood dumpling. Pick this dish if you are are a seafood lover and unsure which dumpling to choose from. My favourite is the sushi dumpling.
*Scallop Dumpling - The skin is thin and translucent and does not break apart when you pick it up, the scallop is well cooked.
*Deep Fried King Prawn Ball covered in sweet and sour sauce - These are fried prawn balls and were crispy! I love the way those fried noodles sprouting everywhere and always ask for extra sweet and sour sauce. One bite, and boom the texture is absolutely amazing.
*Stewed Ox tripe - It might not be everyone's cup of tea however it is a delicacy to be eaten.
*Steamed Beancurd Roll with Seafood - steamed to perfection. Soft and juicy, the taste of seafood, ginger and bamboo shoots.
*Egg Tarts - It is a popular dessert dish and cannot be missed. The soft puff pastry is filled with egg custard and served warmed. One bite, it's flaky pastry falls in your mouth, the custard was not too sweet and soft and just firm enough to hold its shape.
*Durian Dessert Pastry - The king of fruits, the durian is encased in pastry, served warmed. Not the distinct taste of the fresh fruit, very humble and pleasant to eat
Take away
*One whole peking duck- yep I'm a fan of the peking duck here. What can I say, it was delicious and usually buy takeaway for my dinner and it's great with cold rolls.
THUMBS UP!
I will definitely come back here again for yum cha. read more
