Tick, Tick, Tick...BOOM! Thats how you rock it at Ding Hao…read morefor Yum Cha MoFo's! You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll gain 2-3 inches around your waist line! Located next to the court house on Gouger Street (in which I have yet to be convicted of anything in.....yay for me), Ding Hao is known as one of the top Chinese restaurants in the city. Although the normal menu is nothing to sniff at, it's all about the Yum Cha! I have noticed that one of my fellow Yelpers, Andrew C, has named the place 'Best in Adelaide for Yum Cha'. Energetic and stinging Hi-Five's coming your way Andrew, becuase I am in full agreement! Everytime I head in there and see that wonderful check list of tantilising bite sized morsels, tears of joy begin to well and the 'ticks' begin to fill more spaces than they should! The dumpling casings are soft but firm and the filling is high quality, stupidly hot and 'heart skip a beat' tasty. The steamer boxes keep coming, just as you have knocked off the previous one, and before long the weight of your over enthusiastic ordering hits you. Somehow I always seem to battle through and finish every last dumpling and steam bun (I am quite the trooper!). Some days can get busy, so book ahead, but if you are looking for a feed for lunch during the week you shouldn't have too many problems.

Ding Hao is one of the most popular restaurants to go to for Yum Cha. If you ask a local to…read morerecommend where to eat Yum Cha, they will tell you Ding Hao. You know, I have never been a big fan of Yum Cha. Most of the times I have tried Yum Cha it is all deep-fried, saucy and really sweet. Apart from the odd place that will offer you steamed buns. I am always feeling left with a yearning for vegetables. However, what I have learnt from the best is that Yum Cha can include steamed vegetables. In fact, what I ordered was a side of steamed Asian greens with oyster sauce as recommended by the waiter. I think this will be my refresher part of the meal from now on. Again, due to my preference to keep away from fried stuff I ordered steamed squid with ginger and steamed dumplings. The squid was a little overcooked and rubbery, but did have a nice flavour with the ginger. The dumplings tasted like they had been made on order. They where the freshest tasting I have ever experienced. Well worth the try. Also, it would be worth noting that I have also had great BBC here as well. It is served with not too much sauce and good helping of tofu. If you had not had BBC before, it is stir-fried soy beans served with spiced tofu & pickled cabbage. Really popular dish amongst the vegos in Adelaide.

The Restaurant decor was very inviting! The only suggestion I wish I was offered a glass of water with my meal! They only served hot Jasmine tea! I wasn't sure if I should have asked for water! I am even finding it difficult writing on my laptop, as I have to curve my arms around my engorged belly. I couldn't be happier! Citi Zen fully rocks the house! The name, I grant you is a little corny when you say it fast, but the food is freaking stupid! Located in the Old Brecknock building (used to be awesome on St Pats Day), Citi Zen is decked out the way a Chinese Restaurant should be, Red (Orange), Gold and lots of cool old looking carvings and vases. The chairs are really comfy too which I think is an area where many restaurants fall down. The menu is the really impressing thing, both because it looks funky and has pretty pictures, but also for the amazing amount of dishes. All of the regular offenders are there plus some extra house specials that you may need to have a super fat wallet to handle. The Sea Cucumber portions for example are pretty steep.....too steep for this yelping cat! They have both the regular menu and all day/night yum cha or, like me, you can mix and match. I chose to grab a couple of dishes from the Yum Cha for the entree (a little cheaper than the dishes on the regular menu), then switched to some ripping share dishes. We had a couple of stock standards, like Garlic Prawns and Sizzling Mongolian Lamb (which were super tasty), but the big surprise came from the crispy skin chicken. The dish comes out looking like a whole chicken, butterflied and sat on. Golden to such an extent that you need don your sunnies just to choose a piece. I kid you not, crispy was advertised and crispy was delivered.....Crispy Awesomeness! The Chicken was only beaten (just mind you) by the salt and pepper crumbed oysters, that were little balls of spicy mouth joy that made me wish we had got there earlier and they hadn't run out (so we only had the half dozen). If you haven't tried Citi Zen, I feel very sorry for you, but you are probably skinnier than me!

It feels like an old football club that has een converted into a Chinese restaurant. BUT I'm in no way pretentious in that regard so I don't really care what it looks like. They still have some amazing Chinese style light fittings and art hung around the store. And the food is great. Probably the best lemon chicken I've ever had. It wasn't too lemony, as lemon chicken often is, it was just right. Soaked in lemon sauce, but still battered and crunchy. Fantastic. They offer some amazing banquet options. A banquet for two will cost you $22 per person, and entitles you to prawn crackers (of course), a spring roll and satay chicken stick each (the spring rolls were meaty and juicy and the satay chicken sticks were some of the best I've ever had), a bowl of chicken and corn soup each, Mongolian beef, honey chicken and a large rice. And after all that some Chinese tea. Great value. They also do a great sweet and sour sauce to add to whatever meat you enjoy. My favourite sweet and sour dish is chicken, and it's what I generally judge a Chinese restaurant on. And theirs is delicious and has better chicken to vegetable ratio than most other Chinese restaurants. I certainly suggest choosing Dragon Palace over any of the other Chinese options in the area.

There are a number of other Chinese options around the local area, but the simple reason why this was always the number one choice is that they are just better than all of them! The Fried rice is moreish, Mongolian Beef juicy and rich, Garlic Prawns oily and garlicy (both very good things) and on top they are really quick! The same familly have owned the place as long as I have been going there and they are fantastic. The hostess in particular is alway full of genuine smiles and more often than not recalls the conversation you had with her the last time you picked up a number 24 with a side of 43.

The place is nicely presented, the tables are properly set with fancy chairs and looks like a fine dining restaurant. There are 2 menus. One for dine-in and one for take-away. We ordered from the takeaway menu but were able to dine in... The takeaway menu has all the dishes you'd expect from a Chinese restaurant and really cheap! Around the $10 mark. We ordered pork with sweet and sour sauce, spiced salt and pepper pork, fried egg noodles with vegetables, fried chicken and also steamed dumplings. All the food was really good and beautifully presented. The service was really good and I'll come back here again.

Granted, we walked in, a group of 9 without a booking however the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. They had room for us, and after a few short minutes with the menu, wanted our order - we had to tell the waiter to back off a little! We placed our orders a little later, excited by the prospect of what looked like an interesting and tasty selection. After we'd ordered food, several in our party decided to grab a couple of bottles of white wine - the only problem was that they only had a single bottle of sav blanc cold. So one bottle was shared between us! Maybe 15 minutes later, a few dishes began to arrive - and it wasn't necessarily entrees first. Over the course of the following half hour, an array of dishes hit the table at varying times. My first serve of steamed dumplings arrived still frozen at the table - and granted the waiter was apologetic and a steaming hot serve was returned - about 10 minutes later. The food was good - when it arrived, but dishes being served over that space of time really just isn't great. It causes people to feel rude if they begin eating before others and then others to feel even hungrier than when they began. I may return if it's just myself and my partner but definitely wouldn't bring a group back!
