I've been hearing folks talk about King's Kitchen in Tuscaloosa for a while now, and after seeing a few social media posts, I figured it was time to see what all the fuss was about for myself. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome from the lady behind the counter. She walked me through the menu, answered my questions, and before long my order was in. I went with the chicken and dressing, green beans, and fried okra. Now let me warn you... this place isn't fancy. If you're expecting white tablecloths and fine china, you're in the wrong place. After a short wait, they called my name and brought my meal to the table nestled inside a good ol' Styrofoam container. I popped the lid, and a cloud of steam rolled out that let me know this food hadn't been sitting around. The fried okra was good. Personally, I like mine just a little crispier, but it still hit the spot. The green beans and that chicken and dressing? Whew... they were absolutely fire. That's the kind of comfort food that makes you slow down and enjoy every bite. Now I understand why people keep talking about King's Kitchen. Great home-style cooking, friendly folks, and a relaxed atmosphere are hard to beat. If you're looking for a solid meat-and-three in Tuscaloosa, this one deserves a visit. This place was small but very clean. Staff was great and the food was good. Especially the pork chops and collard greens. Next time we will get there early so we can get some homemade cake. All was gone an hour before closing. Give it a try when you're in the Tuscaloosa area. Sweet tea is dark and sweet like it's supposed to be. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for quite some time now and happened to be in the area yesterday and decided to drop in. There was a short line but they have two staff available to take orders so it went quickly. We ordered, we're given our drinks, and sat down. I immediately noticed how clean this place is. It was spotless and I was very impressed. For my meal I ordered the hamburger steak with onions and gravy, Lima beans, and purple hull peas. Everything was very well seasoned, hot, and delicious! The wait time for food was short and the staff kept checking to make sure you didn't need anything else. By the time we left the line was out the door and now I know why. read more

Have been looking for a good home cooking restaurant, so my wife and I tried this place for lunch today. They have daily specials and a few meals that they offer everyday. This being a Thursday, I had chicken and cornbread casserole. To call it a casserole is to cheapen this dish it was so good with two scoops and gravy. Fantastic! The corn and mashed potatoes were also amazing. My wife had chicken tenders. I figured they would be frozen out of a bag. No! They were homemade, crispy and flavorful. The dinner rolls were homemade as well and were to die for. The place is very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. Can't wait to try another day and different specials. I was craving some fried chicken wings and decided to try King's Kitchen for the very first time. These had to be some of the best chicken wings I have ever had. They were cooked perfectly and were fresh. I wish I had a menu so I could have called in, but these wings were worth the wait. I now have the menu, and I will be back to try the spaghetti! read more

I went today and had an interesting time. To be honest the staff were so so on niceties. My order was taken wrong and led to me ordering a third entree because I was driving through. I ordered country fried steak and chicken and dumplings. I ended up getting two country fried steaks. Then right before leaving I ordered a country fried steak again to go. The food tasted great. The tea is not fresh brewed, it comes from one of those gold peak syrup machines.. so tea lovers might want to skip on this beverage. I also got a peach cobbler tasted good, but instead of a crumble it had more of a broken up pie crust vibes. Skip the corn bread if you don't want it to be dry. Go with hush puppies or a dinner roll. Honestly, I didn't feel comfortable with the staff that took my order to let her know she got it wrong. She seemed uninterested in entertaining to complaints and had enough customers to deal with. She did ask how everything tasted midmeal and I said pretty good. But I didn't get the vibe she wanted to hear my real opinion. I would come back and would try to be served by a different cashier. I've had a couple of meals at this place. The dish wasn't seasoned this time. It tastes as if the collard greens were straight out of the can. The macaroni cheese had a terrible, dry texture. This dinner did not satisfy me. The cost of vegetables is excessive given the portion size. I'm not sure if I'll give it another go. read more

Great food, friendly staff, and just down home feeling. I was in the area for a week for work relations and was looking for something like what I am used to. All of these other restaurants that say "Home Cooked" don't even go to them. This place is the REAL down home cooking like my grandmother used to make. Hidden gem! My family and I were looking for a place we could sit down and enjoy a home cooked meal rather than fast food, King's Kitchen delivered. The owner was kind enough to offer fried catfish on a day it's normally or served. Everyone was kind and courteous. The fried catfish was flavorful with every bite. I paired it with cabbage, squash and onions and cornbread; which were as tasty as the fried catfish. My little reported that the chicken tender and French fries were good. The tenders appeared moist with a nice crisp crunchy batter. Hubby reports the baked pork chops were nicely seasoned and moist. We'll be returning for fish Friday! read more

I have been wanting to try this place for a while and finally ordered it through Door dash and I am so glad I did. I got their Friday special Spaghetti casserole (which was quite honestly the best spaghetti casserole I have ever eaten), along with steamed cabbage, mashed potatoes with gravy , and Mac and cheese. Every single thing was delicious and I could tell it was all homemade. The mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese brought back fond memories of my Granny's recipe and that is a huge compliment to King's Kitchen because my Granny made the best soul food ever! read more

This is a nice meat & three in a part of Tuscaloosa that has been void of this cuisine for many years. I tried it out today, Friday, for lunch. Had the catfish lunch with fried okra, Mac-n-cheese and purple hull peas as my sides. Everything was delicious. I was more impressed with the service, which was excellent. You order at the walk-up counter. Servers deliver your order to you table based on a number card given when you pay upon completing your order. My drink never got past half empty!
