My first impression from the outside was that it was a sketchy operation- especially after finding out that the tavern employees assist with checkin. However the rooms turned out to be very spacious and comfortable and the little upstairs sitting area was very nice. I certainly can't say enough good things about the amazing bbq restaurant and tavern downstairs. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and the food was truly first class. They smoke their meats in a giant smoker behind the tavern so guests can stand on the rear balcony and take in the aromas of smoky bbq deliciousness. I would definitely stay here on a future trip through MN.

Because you don't want anyone to know about one of the best kept secrets in Minnesota! But because I wish them absolutely all the best - I MUST tell the world about one of the best Stay-cations I have ever had... I booked a room here last summer to get away by myself for some R&R. I've been looking to book again, and am happy to say that the prices have not gone up. Each room is $139- $149 a night, and is worth e v e r y p e n n y. This is not your typical Bed and Breakfast, nor is it a typical hotel. The gracious owners own an upscale BBQ restaurant downstairs, and run the Inn upstairs. Breakfast is served off their menu down in the restaurant - and was absolutely fantastic. I had a delicious chocolate chip scone and coffee, with spicy breakfast potatoes, eggs, and toast. They were extremely accommodating, and said I could order whatever I pleased. I sat on their back patio all by myself and it was - heaven. The rooms - OH THE ROOMS. You'd be hard pressed to find a hotel this nice anywhere nearby. They were clean, updated, and they spared no expense. There was a separate powder room, a huge luxurious whirlpool tub, and over-sized shower. The bed was large and comfy, and I fell asleep at night to the in-room electric fireplace. There was not one, but TWO flat screen tv's, and a beautiful marble sink/vanity area. The room also included a mini-fridge and a Keurig stocked with Caribou Coffee. The rooms were spic-and-span, and HUGE. There is even access to the shared back-porch. The inn-keepers were friendly and offered to give me suggestions of what to do in the area. Head down a few blocks to the main street and you will find plenty to do. There is also a wonderful winery about 8 minutes away called Chankaska Creek. If the guest book in the room is any indication, I am not the only one who has enjoyed my stay at the Konsbruck. It felt like a luxury to even be standing in that bathroom. I have been day-dreaming about returning ever since I left!!

"Never again!" That was what a friend said when I told her where I was staying when I went to my…read morehigh school reunion in Hutch. I had read the negative reviews, but I read that there was new management and was under the impression it had recently been remodeled. The problem is that the semi-decent motels in this town are well over $200 a night, and I'm not willing to pay that much unless a place is stellar. There were a few positives about my stay. Right behind the motel is a beautiful river walk, and there are several restaurants within walking distance. Check-in was friendly and quick, and I was asked how my stay was on checkout. I answered "OK," but I was being generous. There were a few signs of a remodel such as new beds that were fairly comfy although a little too soft for my taste. The room also had a new laminate floor. A lot of the motels where I am from in Florida have this, but I imagine it will be chilly in a Minnesota winter. The room was fairly clean, with no bugs that I could detect except for a very annoying fly that was buzzing around. Now for the long list of things that made this a two-star review. First, I did not feel safe because all entrances including side doors were unlocked at all hours of the day and night. I went to use the pool at 9:40 AM, but the door was locked even though there was a sign posted that it opened at 8 AM. There was only a bar to hang clothes on, no actual closet or dresser to put them in. Then there was the noise. The worst was that every time I got in or out of bed, the metal box spring would clang loudly like a gong every time I got out of bed. Maybe the metal prevents bed bugs, but it wakes everyone in the room in the night. A crying baby next door and stomping feet when the people above us walked also prevented sleep. The weirdest thing is that there were no windows. There were glass French doors covered by dirty, stained curtains that led out into the hall where people were walking by. The hall had several missing ceiling tiles, and the others were badly stained. The worst part about the "remodel" is that they had crudely placed strips of white plastic to cover up the black mold in the caulking rather than actually replace it. Breakfast was a major disappointment. The coffee was badly burned. I got down to breakfast, which was served until 9:00, at 8:45. There were no eggs. Another guest asked the lady at the front desk if she could make more. She replied that breakfast was almost over. However, the guest pointed out that at least 10 people were waiting and would eat them, so she said she would make more. She then disappeared for 30 minutes, at which time I rang the bell at the front desk, but neither the lady or any other employees were anywhere to be seen. The ten guests finally left without their eggs. A "picture is worth a thousand words," so I will leave you with several that will give you the overall flavor of this motel, which I too will "never again" darken the doors of again.

The paint is sloppily done there's mildew in the bathtub... I guess that's what you get for $100 nowadays. And a reminder if you stay here you have to have them adjust the heat. Otherwise it won't come on and it will be 60 your room all night. There was a dog running back-and-forth all night and barking and I couldn't call the front office because the phone didn't work and it was too cold to get out of bed.. oh I forgot it was raining and water was pouring down out of the ceiling which was held up by what appeared to be a 4 by 8. I can imagine the mold in the carpet. Literally I wanted to call the health department. That's how bad this place is .

The Grand Stay is a smallish midwestern chain and there happened to be on in town so I grabbed a room for a few nights Small but nice lobby greets you as you walk in and the attentive fellow behind the desk got me squared away with a room in short order. I was up on the third floor so hopped the elevators and headed up. Elevator arrived and operated in the normal amount of time - so all good. Room was nicely appointed and clean. Bathroom was good sized, well lit and functional. Hot water was hot. There is a large indoor pool available, but I did not have the time to do anything there. They offer a free breakfast in the morning but to be honest, it was very basic. Coffee was decent however. The building is situated on the edge of a strip mall and there is an Italian sports bar there if you feel the need to grab something to eat and watch the game. Parking lot was a bit small and cramped, but got the job done. Overall a solid 3-star hotel and I would stay here again if in the area.

Since there are not a lot of hotels in the area, we broaden our search to find a good hotel at a good price. Location - Redwood Lodge is right off the main highway running through Redwood Falls. You are close to everything the town has to offer and right across the street from a gas station and Walmart. Rooms & Building - The rooms look like they were just recently remodeled. There were a few rooms that still were under construction. The remodeled rooms were cozy and comfortable. They included a fridge and microwave. Amenities - This hotel doesn't offer a pool, but they do have a neat relaxation room that includes a hot tub and sauna. My kids had fun watching cartoons on the TV and sitting in the hot tub. They also have free coffee and cookies (delicious brownie cookies) available. In the morning, a free breakfast is provided. Food - The breakfast buffet had a lot of options to pick from and was one of the better breakfast buffets we have had in quite some time. They offered the standards such as waffles, cereal, eggs, fruit, toasting items, etc. but also offered breakfast sandwiches and biscuits and gravy. You did not leave hungry! Vibe - Easy going and super friendly staff. The hotel lobby was very welcoming and smelled like cinnamon and apples. The vintage farmhouse décor matched the town's vibe and made for a very pleasant stay. Reality vs. Online - Pictures that I saw on their website and online matched the quality and condition of the hotel and rooms in-person. No surprises. Price & Final Verdict - I paid about $135 a night. Great bang for your buck, especially when you included the free breakfast, coffee, and cookies. Great hospitality at a great price. Redwood Lodge is definitely one of the better places to stay in the immediate area, even without a pool. We would stay again.

1 Star -- never again…read more my partner and i recently stayed at redwood lodge, and unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired. from the moment we arrived, the energy was off. the front desk clerk questioned nearly everything my husband said -- from how we booked the room (Expedia, which apparently was "odd" to him) to making strange remarks about how we "drove without ID." it was unprofessional, unnecessary, and set the tone for the rest of our stay. we checked in with our emotional support dog, who was clearly seen by the same front desk clerk. several days into our stay -- the day before checkout -- we were given a note on the door stating we were not in a pet-friendly room and needed to move. at that point, why disrupt us after seeing us and our pet the entire time? staff interactions continued to feel cold, overly suspicious, and frankly judgmental. when i asked for a simple tool (pliers) to install a personal shower head, i was met with multiple questions instead of support -- even though i had already used the same pliers earlier in the week. at checkout, I was again told no pliers existed and stared at by multiple staff members while struggling to maneuver the luggage cart out the front door. no offer to help. just silence and stares. it's one thing for a place to be basic, but it's another for it to be inhospitable. do better. everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and welcome -- especially when they're paying guests. -- a guest who will never return

The room was sparsely decorated and dimly lit. The furniture including beds had the appearance of the free stuff people leave at the ends of driveways... If you like the whole "shabby chic" thing, this room provides a lot of shabby. The hard floor was nice looking and at first a welcoming escape from the traditional carpeting of most rooms that carry the odors of years of patrons. Unfortunately I found out just how dirty and unkept the floor really was after taking my socks off before bed. Yuck. it felt like walking through crumbs and dirt. AC unit not really up to snuff. I immediately cranked it up to cool the room and after a few minutes it started blowing humid tepid air. The manager did try to fix it and told me he would move me if necessary. That being said, it worked well enough after that to not warrant the move. The bathroom window would not close or lock. The bathroom itself was not the cleanest. Guessing a product of years of poor cleaning procedures. And I'll add I did not receive any maid service the entire stay. Had to go to office to get fresh towels. Overall, its fairly inexpensive, but outside of cable tv, refrigerator, and microwave, this motel offers no other meaningful amenities. Would I stay again? Probably not based on this experience. Still really confused by all the 5 star reviews. I'd really like to see how bad this place was before the new owners...
