I was the first class to come through here 1st-6th before OUSD moved middle schools to 6th-8th…read more It was engrained in me the honor and tragedy for which my school was named. The hilltop location is the pride of all the schools in the city. Oceanside High may have the beach down the street, but this is the best. With a open field park behind and 7 foot basketball courts I always felt this place less of a prison feel than most schools. I had so many memories of this place growing up, my entire youth basically. I definitely spent more time here than the average kid because of after school basketball. First fight, first kiss, first time doing illegal substances (relax, this was in the summertime and just me and my friends, nothing to do with school) I absolutely had the best teachers around, many of which i still keep in contact with 20+ years later. If your reading this you are probably looking to place your kids here and the game has changed so much there are probably better resources to decide with. Bounce it, bounce it. I'm about to throw a couple thousand. Glad to have this been my 1000th review.

We love it's tucked away location and also the positive and inclusive vibe that is evident on the playgrounds and in the classrooms. This is a hidden gem in Oceanside!

So ashamed of this school I can't believe how it's plummeted into the ground. The discrimination is…read moredisgusting. They got rid of a ton of great staff this school year. They have been there since my daughter was in kindergarten (2018) Very unprofessional now. So sad. Used to be a happy place with loving and caring teachers. Now everyone is so cold and unwelcoming.

I'm so sad that my son had to leave this school last year when he left to go to 6th Grade. This…read moreschool was like his second home, and all of the staff knew him, treated him kindly, and were always so encouraging. He was so confident and self assured...and Mr.Ruth was likely one of the best Sped teachers he had besides Mrs. Mini, who we were sad to lose after so many years of great experiences in her class. This school is so much more than just a school. They bring all students and families in and make a real "home" for them - a secondary area where they can feel accepted and supported just as they are. Miss Mayanna in the Health Office was one of Hunter's favorite people, and he talks about her, all of the office staff and the principal, Dieter Swank, constantly. He misses being there, but now he's in a charter school that is k-8, and looks very similar to the uniforms Ivey Ranch wore. It's been a much easier transition there, he only lasted a little less than a month in the Middle School, and he's really flourishing in the full inclusion of the charter school he is in now. He's learning Mandarin there, and does homework without complaint...it's been a metamorphosis that wouldn't have been possible had it not been for the collaborative efforts off all staff involved. I am excited and sad that we had to leave, but Ivery was six of the best years of Hunter's life, and every time we drive by, we talk about how many awesome Memories he had there, and how he loves his new charter school where he's got a 1:1 Aide and fully supported, he is also really doing well in this new setting...and I owe that much to the foundation that was laid in such a positive manner by the staff and volunteers at Ivey Ranch...I wish my oldest would have had such a fantastic place to attend his elementary school year. Ivey Ranch gave him the platform and foundation, and his new charter school is giving him a opportunity to tap into that so he can make his future better and brighter for himself. He's already grown so much, and parents...if you're sending your kiddo to Ivey and might have some concerns - the principal is amazing, and the staff in the front are always happy to be of help. We love Ivey...and it's going to be with us forever, as it helped shape who put responsible young man would become. I can't wait to see what fantastic alumni come from that school, and look back as fondly as our family often does on 6 long and prosperous years at Ivey. We miss you already, but we are so glad you continue to shape and guide the minds of these Young individuals...you're a very special School, with some very outstanding personnel who deserve to know how much they all meant to one little boy who is now an emerging young man...and he is proud of everything he is, is always responsible, for his actions. He is so much better for the time he spent there, and we could not be happier for that experience! Go Ivey!!!

Go Wildcats! It's EC time! It's EC time! What! What!…read more(somewhere Tony A. is laughing because I got school pride!) My high school experience was pretty complete I would say: I was a member of the Associated Student Body (ASB...otherwise known as the Student Council). I was Senior Class President. I was Cross Country Captain. I was a 4 year Varsity Cross Country and 3 year Track Athlete. I was an Honors Student that graduated at the top of my class. I took Advanced Placement classes and got straight As. I handled my language requirement by sophomore year (it pays to migrate from peru to southern california when it comes to that). I went to all the dances, football games, basketball games, theater performances and music recitals! I was a part of a club called the Black Hat Society where we ate lunch, hung out with our favorite cool teacher, and discussed politics, culture and satanism. I went to parties and got drunk (but not ever before my junior year). I dated boys steadily through high school (one looser 1st semester freshman year, a great guy that now RIP second half of freshman year through junior year, and rob e. senior year). I built a float for homecoming my senior year.. and performed on it as well! (I was catwoman from batman and robyn for our superhero theme). I got to ditch class all the time because I was in ASB. I organized, mc'd and participated in pep rally's. I went on fieldtrips to major theme parks, including disneyland for grad night. I organized my prom... and my date was the prom king! http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=j46QH7rV60lZ9sGLusS3Uw&select=IeRR79asTYOzeupIPAUrPA&start=20 I enjoyed my english courses as well as social science courses, specially history and political science and the teachers who taught them! EL Camino has a huge campus... 3 different levels from all the way down at the track, to the gym and parking and theater, to the top cafeteria and classes. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/6t6_3CctJGYdrkzVttuVjQ?select=GaeBevEgNS-BdjaooUaPHA EC offered opportunities for those who wanted to take them. It was a diverse campus with many African American, Filipino, Samoan, Latino, White, etc... students. That meant, sometimes there was racial tension. Also, there was some gang violence considering its location and its size. There were many electives, clubs, and sports to be a member of, as well as after school activities. Also, plenty of honors and advanced placement classes. And... its a california distinguished school! But, like plenty of schools in california, it could have been better! Could have had newer and cleaner facilities (although they have since opened a spanking new science and math building... which looks exactly the same as our rival's: Oceanside High School). Also- some of the administration sucked. And the lunch food could have been healthier! ---------------- Alma Mater We pledge our hearts to brown and gold, the color of the hills and sun. As people we are many, but as Wildcats we are one. Our pride for you is deep within, our spirit strong and high. We'll hail to you dear alma mater, as the years go by. Our team will fight with honor, and strive for victory. El Camino Wildcats, forever we shall be.

Security staff are rude and angry. This is the second time I've had someone be condescending or…read moreshouting when I politely and calmly pick up my kid from school. My daughter has crutches and I parked my car by the front office curb to help her. A lady in a hat came over and told me I can't park there, despite there being a row of cars parked right behind me. She said "you can't block the ramp" to which I replied what ramp? There was none, just the same curb everyone was parked at. She told me just move, and pointed to parking spaces on the opposite side of the parking lot. I explained I'm helping my daughter who's injured and will just take a couple minutes. She said park over there and move when she's out. Another security person said "oh yeah, she's like that" when I mentioned the encounter. The other employee was a man who yelled at me when trying to leave the large south parking lot. I merely followed the people in front of me and he started yelling at me "what the hell are you doing!!?" I asked him what's wrong, I'm just following the flow of traffic, sorry I'm just picking up my kid. He apologized, seeming to realize he overreacted. Apparently they want you to circle all the way around the entire parking lot even if no other cars are there. I understand, at least this time he explained it was just an unusual policy, not my fault. Can't wait for my daughter to graduate, I went to Carlsbad high school and this place sounds like a nightmare in comparison. The math teacher and others are troubled individuals with egos and power trips, untouchable due to tenure, what I hear from other parent and students. Only people who were polite were the front office staff, they had better social skills. Hopefully someone speaks to the parking staff.
