I still go back there every now and again, though, but mostly due to lack of viable alternative. The restaurant itself is in an old church building and it has a handy large car park behind it, but I was disappointed when I walked in. They could have made it truly spectacular, but there are cheap Italian country scenes painted on the wall, cheap fake flowers, and naff light fixtures. The food is ok but, again, they seem to have used cheap ingredients so nothing blew me away. I struggle to remember what I've actually eaten on the occasions that I've been there, actually! I do remember my husband having a rather plain-tasting carbonara.

And the kitchen turns out truly delicious plates of food. Midsomer Norton is a simple place and it's great to have a whiff of true sophistication in a place like this. I went for some local sausages and mash. This may sound ordinary but they were far from ordinary. There is deft handiwork coming out of the kitchen - smears of flavours of the plate and much care and attention to detail. Good wine and lovely service! Recomended

We had breakfast and both the vegetarian and omnivore options were tasty and enjoyable. Tea is served in decent sized mugs and the toast is hot and buttery. For £5.00 you can eat well here. The toilets are well kept and clean. This place is worth seeking out for a breakfast, lunch or just a sandwich and a cuppa.

The Canuck and the Vegan seem to be both catered to by a peer at the menu - so appropriate breakfasts are ordered along with a cup of tea and freshly squeezed orange juice (no box stuff here). The meals take a bit of time to arrive. We were warned ahead when we ordered and had armed ourselves with an assortment of Saturday papers from the shop next door. The breakfasts arrive about fifteen minutes into the Guardian and it is well worth the wait. Two bacon and sausages, eggs, beans, tomatoes and toast with the non-meaty equivalents on the Vegans plate. I had taken a chance on a motorway services breakfast on the way down to Southern England and had suffered for the rest of the day. It sat inside of me like a cinder block for 300 miles and made the day worse. Heaphy's re-affirmed my faith in the Great British Breakfast. The sausages were small but excellent and the bacon of excellent quality. I should have ordered more toast, it was one of those breakfasts where it seems to leave anything on the plate, including the yolks from the eggs. If you find yourself near here in need of a meal, this place satisfies.

It's a glorious view from the top of Cheap Street when you're sitting outside on a sunny day enjoying a cup of fresh coffee - down the ancient street with it's small stream running down the middle, and it's timbered-top buildings all redolant of Frome's historic past. Although, it's probably better when the street isn't quite so busy as shoppings in throngs seem to have a lot less spatial awareness than usual and one nearly ended up on my lap! The ice-cream shop area is fabulous. I remember one hot day (a rarity I know!) I treated myself to a double-scoop cone, one blackcurrant and one gooseberry scoop. Wow the blackcurrant was so sweet and refreshing, whilst the gooseberry was so gloriously tart I just wanted to bury my face in it. Absolute ice-cream heaven.
