We hired Kelsie to work with our rescue Shih Poo. Henry came to us as a very anxious, fearful little dog with obvious signs of trauma. He had been abused by a female and was very fearful of me and other females. Any eye contact I made with Henry, visibly frightened him. I was advised by a dog behaviorist to avoid making eye contact with him. This was so heart-breaking. I so wanted to connect with him and have him feel comfortable and safe with me. Additionally, it made it challenging to train Henry, not being able make eye contact or to have his trust. I also wondered whether Henry may have sustained a past head injury as part of his trauma, since he had difficulty learning.
Within just a few sessions of working with Kelsie everything changed. She had Henry feeling safer with me and beginning to make eye contact with me on his own. Now, when Henry makes eye contact with me, his gaze is soft, calm and trusting, when before it had been wide-eyed, fearful and trembling. Kelsie has also saw past what seemed like a learning disability and recognize that Henry was actually quite intelligent. She was able to draw out his strengths and build upon them. He is now mastering so many new skills and loving his training.
It fills our hearts with joy to see Henry learn and gain more confidence with every session with Kelsie. I am so grateful that he now feels safe with me. I can't describe how wonderful and heartwarming it is to finally be able to look into Henry's beautiful and trusting eyes. read more
