I have never once had a bad experience with Kim and I've been going there for 16 years. She has hemmed pants, tailored suits, repaired suits, repaired jackets, replaced linings, took in all my clothes when I lost weight and she can fix anything. Years ago, my husband took in a leather jacket that was ripped and we didn't think it could be fixed. When we got it back, we couldn't even remember what was wrong with it. Just days ago (2025), I took in a pea coat with a pocket lining ripped open. Not only did she fix it, she said she found another rip and and fixed that as well. When I asked how much more it would cost, she told me not to worry about it. I also took her an expensive houndstooth suit jacket. The lapel pocket was ripped because my husband didn't unstitch it correctly when he borrowed it. I figured she's just sew the pocket shut, but instead, she opened the pocket and replaced the lining. She even fixed the zipper in my expensive leather backpack that I've had for years. You can't go wrong with her. read more

Didn't finish job on time, rude, THEN wrecked my dress. Don't come here. Was in town for a wedding and needed a snap closure attached to a cocktail dress -- usually just a few minutes' fix, and some places can do it while you wait. So I asked when I dropped off my dress around 3pm if the seamstress could do it by the next day. She said to come back at noon the following day. When I came back at 2pm the following day, she said to come back at 3. This was cutting it close but I agreed. My husband came back to pick up my dress and the seamstress mocked me to my husband for giving a one-day turnaround time and being "in a hurry." When he checked her work he found she had instead SEWED MY DRESS CLOSED. I can no longer even put this $349 dress on. Again: Don't come here. read more

I brought my wedding dress here. It was referred by the bridal boutique I went to. I asked for them to tighten the straps, hem and add a slit. They said the bustle would be after. They quoted me for those items. The slit all they had to do was open the seam. I even showed them where I wanted it. When I went back for a fitting, they didn't open the seam, they cut my dress. It was only up to my knee. It looked like a toddler cut it. I offered solutions, explained what I wanted because it was too late at this point to close it and open the seam it would look awful. At that point there was still blue mark up at the bottom of my dress. The hem wasn't done right. They re-measured and started talking and looking at the bustle. We scheduled appointments for me to come back. I had to go back at least 3-4 times, I'm so happy I didn't wait until last minute. My slit was wrong every single time up up until the owner was there and I called her over. Explained what I've been trying to ask for. She got it off the bat. I went to pick up my dress and the bustle alone was over $300!!! It's nothing special. Never once did they tell me the price of the bustle and it's per button they use. I looked at my tag to see if it was on there, it wasn't but we talked about it in my initial visit. I figured the bustle would be built into the price of the hem. This was on top of what they already quoted me. Final total was $600. I was in a rush and paid the outrageous amount for the alteration. It was half the cost of most wedding dresses. I dropped my dress off to get steamed at my boutique and they asked how alterations went. I shared my experience and they were shocked at what it cost and what happened. They even remembered my dress basically fit and my alterations were minor minus adding a slit. Given their reaction, I called Kim's to discuss the price. I reminded them of how I had to keep guiding them on how we can fix the dress after it was already cut open. I shared not once did they tell me about the bustle cost and asked if we can come to an agreement. She said they worked hard, had other customers, was busy and hung up. Do not go here. I watched her insult people after she hung up with them. Kept telling my mother in law her dress was fine when she explained it was too tight on top of what I went through. read more

I took a $60 pair of khaki pants to her to be hemmed. That's all. She lost them and had nothing else to say. Not even sorry. Just, don't have them. She might or might not be a good tailor, but she's incompetent at running a business. You can tell just by walking in. It's a disaster, a mess. Don't give her your clothes unless you can afford to have her lose them. She probably gave my pants to another customer. There are other tailors available nearby. Use them instead of Kim. read more

I had Kim hem some Pottery Barn curtains I'd purchased for our nursery as well as master bedroom. They were very thick material and quite large. She did a great job, followed my instructions exactly, and turned them around in about 2 weeks. I thought she charged a very fair price. Kim was very nice to work with. Her shop is small, but it gets the job done! I would definitely go back to Kim for my alterations needs in the future. read more

Asked her to take in a dress. She was upset that I asked her to keep the pockets. She told me it would cost more. Pockets are worth it so I said sure. She told me when I could pick it up. I showed up to pick it up and it wasn't done. She hadn't even touched it. The only reason she could find it was I pointed out on the rack for her. I came back the next day like she told me and it still wasn't done she told me to come back in a few hours. I did and it was finally done for double the price she quoted me. read more

I took a $400.00 dress to be hemmed. Went to pick up dress. There were two 14 inch long pulls on the front of my beautiful chiffon dress. My dress was RUINED!! They just looked at each other and laughed. I was horrified! I am a maid of honor in my Brothers wedding in days. I immediately demanded a full refund on my dress including my $65.00 hem charge that was supposed to be $55.00 when I dropped the dress off. They are very unprofessional, very rude and the store looks like a teenager's bedroom! Very unorganized! I had to argue to get a refund. There was no way they were going to get away with this. Trust me they were NOT planning on paying me back without an argument. Kim ended up writing me a check because she was planning on claiming it on her insurance. While waiting for her to do so. I listened to many customers coming into the store to pick up there item or items and the price was more than they were quoted. I could see this was a pattern. So everyone reading this. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT bring anything to Kim's Alterations!! I'm sure there are many more of these stories but, people aren't going to take the time out of there busy lives to tell them. read more

I took a fur coat to be shortened, she did a great job on the coat. I wanted two pillows to be made with the remaining fur. I asked she sew three sides and I would finish them. When I went to pick them up the day after they were supposed to be ready she told me she had forgotten them and to come the next day. I did and she had finished them and was charging me more. I had no choice but to pay the extra or not get my pillows. I think it's bad business practice to do work without checking with the customer first. read more

DO NOT GO TO SEE KIM FOR ANYTHING!! She is the most unprofessional person I have worked with in my life. I went to pick up my dress on the day she told me and she had not even touched it. Then she proceeded to basically chop shop it in front of me completely cutting the wrong layers. She has no clue what she is doing and should not be in this business. My dress is to be worn in a wedding which I can no longer due and will have to chalk up the expense to buy an entire new dress. When I asked her to attempt to fix it she told me I would have to pay double the cost. STAY AWAY!!! She is extremely rude and impossible to deal with. Horrible horrible. I've been going to this business for the last 10 years, always been a good work and decent prices. I live in Gray, and driving the 40 minutes to get here has always been worth it, until today. I brought in 3 dog beds that needed new zippers. This is an alteration that I've had done a dozen times, damn naughty dogs! It's always been around $8-12 depending on the size. Today, she told me it would be $25 per zipper...so $75 total. I explained that it's never been that expensive and asked why the price increase. She told me I was a liar and that she would never have fixed a zipper for less then $25....a zipper! I was applauded. I will be taking all of my business elsewhere from now on. read more

She clearly knew what she was doing when altering my wedding dress and also gave suggestions of things I wouldn't have thought about and also incorporated my mothers wedding ribbons into the dress without any hesitation. She was quick with her hands and also funny and made me and my company feel comfortable. I had a broken zipper on my uniform jacket. Kim took my jacket and gave me a reciept, I asked how much the new zipper would be, and was told $11 (it was just the part that rides up and down the teeth not a whole new zipper, no sewing required), she told me it would be done on the 9th. I went back on the 9th, not done, I went back a week later and was told it would be $25 dollars. I told her she had quoted me $11, no, now it was $25, it was a "two way zipper". This was a complete rip-off, I had to pay to get my jacket. Do not patronize this business. read more

The quality of work is very poor. I needed my jeans hemmed and was measured by the lady in the store but the final product was way off. Initially I thought it may have been an anomaly and since they were very nice, I gave them another chance. So I brought in a pair of shorts with a hole in it but again the work was awful. Very nice lady. But not a good experience. Brought my wedding dress in to get altered (brand new, never worn, clean, stain free). First off, there was a huge lack of communication on progress of her work and the timeline of my dress being done. But my major issue with this business was that I found a large dirt stain on my new wedding gown. I found the stain when the bustle (that she put in) where the dress had been touching her floor was taken down to see the train. No ownership was taken by the owner for the new stain, denying it was from her floors. This happened less than a week before my wedding. Very stressful and disappointing, especially since no apologies were made for the accident. I ended up having to get the owner of the bridal shop I bought my dress at get involved since they are the ones who recommended this alteration business. Will not go back and would not recommend, as this service from this business caused way too much unneeded stress and how the situation was handled was very unprofessional. read more
