I tried a few different places to start training BJJ. I chose this place for a few reason. 1)…read moreEveryone in the class from the instructor to fellow students are awesome and very helpful. 2) They've got a lot of different classes if I want to try anything else. At the moment it's just bjj but I can see myself taking a few others just to try them out. 3) They have a number of different bjj classes for varying skill levels. 4) The place is small enough to feel like a local gym but large enough to attract a diverse group of folks. Most importantly, the bjj classes aren't huge but there are still quite a few folks in every one. 5) The support staff was welcoming and friendly from the time I walked up til now. There are quite a few folks that I've talked with who are much more experienced and skilled (in bjj) than I am and they give the place a thumbs up.

Having trained at multiple gyms in New York and now in San Francisco over the last 5 years, I wasn't sure what to expect walking into Tsunami, but I was pleasantly surprised! First, the gym/mats/locker rooms are all clean and in great shape (just to get that out of the way). The class size was around 12-15 students and everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Mohammad is an active and accomplished competitive grappler, and as such, he is the exact type of instructor that you would want to learn from if you're trying to progress rapidly in this sport. He observes all his students and takes time to give everyone something they can adjust or work on to improve their game. It's a testament to his character and the kind of instructor he is that he would take the time to watch me roll and give me personalized advice while knowing that there was no chance of me becoming a regular student in his class. You can tell he enjoys what he's doing 100% and genuinely wants to help you improve. I rolled with a few of the other students and after chatting with them afterwards, I was consistently surprised by how little they said they've trained because they were honestly some of the most well-rounded 'beginners' I've come across. Solid students, solid class, solid instructor, and everyone trained safely. If I lived in the area this would definitely be my home gym.

Our family has been coming to Major Tae Kwon Do for the past five years and have absolutely loved…read moreit. A friend of mine whose daughter is a third-degree black belt here highly recommended this place and we have been extremely happy here. Previously we had our kids in after-school daycare and honestly, I thought it was just a waste of money as they just would draw and play on a computer or watch television, or at least it seemed that way every time I would go into their room to pick them up at Daycare. I decided to enroll my kids at Major Tae Kwon Do as I thought it would be a great way to teach them self-respect, build their confidence, and learn how to work as a team. These are all basic skills all kids need to learn. During the school year, the kids take part in Tae Kwon Do three times a week and they take part in activities like reading, board games, drawing, and making arts and crafts. Mrs. Ji has the kids go over their homework as well and I love that. They don't just sit and play on tablets, phones or watch television all day, so I absolutely love that!!! Grand Master Seong Ji has been operating his school for over 25 years and is highly respected in the Gwinnett County community. When picking a school, it is important to get choose one that is highly respected, knows their art, and is very picky about who they bring in as instructors. Master Ji is always there, as well as his wife. Master Choi, Master Erica, and Master Paul are outstanding because they are Master Instructors. What does that mean? It means that they have their 5th-degree blackbelt or higher. These instructors do not play around and are great role models for kids. Grand Master Seong Ji is a 7th-degree blackbelt and has a Bachelor's degree in Tae Kwon Do from Kyung Hee University in Seoul, South Korea. That says a lot about his commitment to the art and his dedication to his students. I knew before coming here obviously that Tae Kwon Do was from Korea, but was not aware that there were different organizations. Should you ever decide that you want to compete at a very high level per se, the Olympics', you must have your blackbelt from a WTF (World Taekwondo Federation). WTF is the international federation governing the sport of taekwondo and for the Summer Olympic. So if you are going to a Tae Kwon Do school, choose one that is a part of the World Taekwondo Federation vs ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation). Moving on. They have a great summer school program which is a great choice for working parents who are looking for a well-disciplined place that cares about kids well beyond, but where they teach respect. They take part in lots of arts and crafts, Taekwondo classes each day and once a week they go on field trips. Honestly, our childhood is much different than it is for our kids. The world has greatly changed, and I think it is great for kids to grow up and know how to defend themselves should they need to, or protect their loved ones, but most importantly learn to respect others, be around a diverse crowd of people from different cultures and to have respect for others and themselves. This place does a really good job of nurturing that. I would highly recommend Major Tae Kwon Do to any parent or an adult looking to take Tae Kwon Do classes. Master Ji and his wife Mrs. Ji are incredible people. [Review #644]  (16th Review of 2021) Years ago a newspaper did an article on the school. Here is a link for those who are interested in reading about the history and how Master Ji got started. http://majortkd.com/assets/8.1-cover-story-upclose-lilburn.pdf

They even put the instructor on the line without me asking so he could introduce himself. He asked to setup a time for me to come in and requested that I come in after three so I would be able to meet him. I didn't lead that I'd be signing up for service for sure, so to see him putting this much interest in a prospect was refreshing. I'll be stopping by today and I'll update this review once I see the facility, meet them and possibly sign up.

Initially upon moving to the area, I began at a different studio and was very unhappy with my experience. In search of a better facility, I located Taekwondo Center of McDonough and explained my concerns from the last class. James, one of the instructors, was very patient in answering all of my questions. After consideration, I decided to give this studio a shot and boy am I glad I did! Before beginning the private lesson that I had scheduled for only my children, I was able to watch some of the other students in action during a belt/physical test. This inspired me to take the class for myself as well! We've finished our quick-start program this week and my children and I have all felt great and motivated after each class. They play energizing music during the warm-up and the exercises are fun! Classes are separated by age groups but they're integrated between all belt levels and I really appreciate that higher level students in their black-belt club help instruct newer students in class, too. It's very much a team atmosphere. Their motto is "A black belt is just a white belt that never quit" and I really like the focus on respect and discipline. They alternate instructors through the week between Master Huynh and the instructor James. I've really enjoyed classes by both and I value that they have the traditional values of martial arts in their program. If you're looking to challenge yourself and learn the true art, this is the place to go!

It's always a happy and positive environment and even though the room can get full during sessions, the children still get the attention they need and are pushed to their limit by the masters. Parents, please read the membership and cancellation terms very carefully before signing up…read more My son attended one class, and in early July I contacted World Champion Taekwondo to cancel his membership. When I was charged $169 afterward, I didn't dispute it because he had received a uniform and I felt that was fair. Unfortunately, the charges did not stop. I was charged again, and I have now had two charges hit my account in August. When I contacted the business, instead of addressing my concern about being charged twice in the same month, I received an explanation stating that the membership had a four-month minimum commitment, frozen months don't count toward that commitment, and there is then a 60-day cancellation notice requirement. They are now telling me September will be the final month -- meaning additional billing after I attempted to cancel in July following my son's single class. I understand that businesses have contracts and cancellation policies. My issue is the way this has been handled and the continued billing, particularly the two August charges that were not addressed in their response. In my experience, these billing and cancellation practices feel predatory and extremely consumer-unfriendly. I would strongly encourage other parents to read every provision of the membership agreement, especially the minimum commitment, freeze, automatic payment, and cancellation provisions, before providing a card. I've requested copies of the signed agreement, freeze paperwork, a complete payment history, an explanation of the two August charges, and written confirmation of exactly when the billing will stop. I'll update this review if the company resolves the duplicate charge and handles the cancellation appropriately.
