On a hot summer's day, this place was the best! Homemade ice cream and sorbetto. Fudge in all kinds of wonderful flavors and staff willing to give you samples. This place gave me all the feels from an old school ice cream shop. So refreshing compared to modern day places. We went back a couple more times in the few days we stayed in San Antonio! Kilwins Ice Cream - Chocolate - Fudge - Waffle cone with two scoops! - Chocolatiers & Shops Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

There are two entrances to Kilwins; the more popular one is along Alamo Plaza and the other is on Losoya Street. This shop sells fudge, truffles, candied apples, and - what I came for - ice cream! They had a lot of ice cream flavors to choose from, a least a couple dozen. The smiling young woman working behind the ice cream counter offered to give tastes, but I had already figured out which flavors I wanted. I chose two scoops in a cup, one of Cappucino Chip and the other Turtle Cheesecake. They have several tables to sit at, some along a hallway and more in a back room. I took a seat and was in awe of the huge scoops given. The Cappuccino Chip had a mild flavor (I prefer it stronger) but a fair number of tiny chocolate chips. The Turtle Cheesecake had an excellent cheesecake flavor with swirls of caramel, praline pecans, and caramel-filled mini turtles. I'm usually not fond of nuts in my ice cream but I actually enjoyed the pralines. In my humble opinion, there were too few turtles. But I still loved it. If you're in the mood for a cold, creamy treat while visiting the Alamo, you'll find this to be the perfect place to visit. read more

Key piece of advice...go in the day time. I had the best service and sweetest experience during my recent afternoon visit. I enjoyed it so much I went back later that night with the intent to get seconds. However my appetite was totally ruined and I walked out without purchase because the evening shift server was languishing behind the counter scratching beard. Complete and total ICK! read more

I'm a huge chocolate lover so knew I needed to pop in. First time here, but I've had the chocolate mints gifted to me and they were delicious. I was responsible and only ordered two things-- the dark chocolate sea salt twist and dark tonga shortbread. Customer service was superb from Jonathan. He was friendly, personable, and does his job well. I was excited to try these two treats, but unfortunately, I did not enjoy them. There was a strong cardboard aftertaste and I just couldn't get over it. I was fine with the one bite. Disappointing because I spent $10, but hoping this was a one off. If I'm in San Antonio, Texas again I may give them another try. read more

Beautiful ice-cream shop that's inviting with their chocolate fragrance and has a live-window where you could see chocolates are made. They have enough space to dine outside but not inside the store. I love their ice-creams flavors and variety. My favorite flavors : 1. Cookies and cream 2. Cappuccino 3. Old fashioned Vanilla Hands down the vanilla was amazing! You should definitely try that. The small cup start off close to $7. read more

Made suggestions for ice cream and all the fudge, cookies, and everything else. On that note. I had butter pecan ice cream. So amazing. The best sweet shop downtown! I've passed by Kilwins for years with the misunderstanding that it was only an ice cream shop, but I was SO wrong! They have chocolates, candies, chocolate and caramel dipped treats, ice cream, and so much more filling tables and shelves all throughout the shop. The place was super bright and cheerful, not to mention exceptionally clean, and is staffed by the friendliest team members ever. We were greeted as soon as we entered, and while we were perusing through the huge selection of goodies, Larry offered us both delicious fudge and decadent chocolate samples to try. We ended up choosing a couple of dipped Marsh-Mallows, one Caramel and one Sea-Salt. While I was expecting a thinner layer of crispy caramel, I bit into the exact opposite. Both had the thickest layers of what tasted like Werther's caramel, soft and chewy. Despite the thickness, the caramel didn't overwhelm the marshmallows' sugary flavor and instead complemented one another. The light chocolate drizzle on the Caramel Marsh-Mallow was just enough to enhance the simple but delicious caramel flavor. The chocolate coat on the Sea-Salt Marsh-Mallow, however, was easily tasted over the base caramel coat, the sea salt adding a delicious savory flavor to the treat. Every bit of these thick Marsh-Mallows was filled with sugary deliciousness! This place is absolute heaven for sweet tooths! When you visit Kilwins, make sure you try a few samples. There's tons to try and you'll love every bite! read more

We seem to end up here whenever we are near the Alamo. Perhaps it's the little voice inside calling me to come look at all the different types of goodies, or maybe it's my sugar addiction pulling me in, but either way since I'm here, gotta get something to satisfy my guilty pleasure. My favorite for a truly spiritual experience is the white chocolate bar that is shaped in the form of a cross. Fudge is sold by the pound with the lemon flavor one being a winner. So many sweet things to choose from-it's hard to pick one and leave, so instead make sure to grab a few. Wifely loves Ice cream and usually gets a cone or scoop from the many choices they have. Add a waffle bowl and you will be happy walking around even in 100d temps. You can indulge yourself in the many chocolate covered snacks if you are into that sort of thing. Not to worry, I'm not judging; lest me be judged. Always good to park far from here, so you can walk it off. read more

Sorry, just NOT paying $10 for a regular sized ice cream cone. I don't understand why people would pay that much for an ice cream cone in a current depression. What is wrong with people?? WAY OVERPRICED!!! read more

Even though I live not top far from San Antonio and often come down for work, I have to be honest and say I haven't done much exploring here. However, finding out about Kilwins was so delightful! A chocolate shop super close to the Alamo with free fudge and ice cream samples?? Sign me up! I was in the mood for ice cream and ended up getting a scoop of cake batter with chocolate syrup and was in heaven! I also bought a box of chocolate dipped oreos for later snacking. I enjoyed my scoop of ice cream while strolling down the Alamo and enjoying a sunny Saturday evening outside post-work conference! read more

To me, this shop is something I would describe as impressive. There are so many options for both chocolate and ice cream alike, and there is a good chance you will be satisfied with what you get. A single scoop waffle cone with strawberry chunk ice cream was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. The atmosphere and the friendliness of the employees was refreshing. The price was as refreshing as I paid 10 dollars for said ice cream. Overall, I would definitely recommend especially for such a convenient location in downtown. read more

It appears this ice cream shop has been a staple in the area for many years. The decor dates back into the 50's. It's cute. The people working there are friendly and laughing. Huge variety of sweet treats and they allow samples of fudge and their many ice creams. They do homemade waffle cones and bowls which I love. We opted for the Dulce De Leche single scoop on Sugar cone and it set us back $8.65 - for one scoop. Good thing we aren't huge ice cream fans. It was cold and delicious- they have seating so you can chill in the air conditioned large shop which is nice. read more

Was walking by and couldn't help but smell the aroma from inside. The staff was very welcoming and friendly . We sampled fudge and omg so good. Felt like I could get fat, by just staring at it . So much to choose from - something for everyone. read more

I'm aware of this franchise because I come from Michigan however my experience was better than anticipated because I was served by Jonathan. We asked for a sample of ice cream and he proceeded to share some flavors of the MI region, why your fudge has a wonder flavor and even elaborated on Kilwins community partners...Jonathan represented the brand with professional passion. I loved that he has a drive to complete his education while continuing to work for the store. If I was the owner, I would send him to headquarters, give him the fudge making experience and set him up for success once he gets his degree. Because he is a diamond in the rough and that DNA is hard to find. Way to go Jonathan and the owner! read more

Kilwins was amazing! I have to say that the chocolate and fresh strawberry ice cream were the best flavors. Chocolate is my personal fave. Being a chocolate shop as well, Kilwins certainly knew how to make chocolate so delectable. I couldn't resist it. When you walk in, the scent of warm, fresh melty chocolate just tempts you. You'll see what I mean. I love it! 5/5 stars for sure. And I have no regrets. read more

It's a must stop for Ice cream or you have a sweet tooth! They have endless options of chocolates, fudge, anything covered in chocolate and ice cream! The service was great and the reason I'm writing this review. We were Instantly greeted by Mauricio and he gave us a tour of options and tastings. We ended up with a few ice cream cones, the ice cream is really good and freshly made. They are a Michigan ice cream spot, I'll say they know a thing or two about ice cream! Shout out to Mauricio for being an excellent employee. I hope the manager knows he's got a great worker. read more

Really good ice cream. Lots of yummy treats and gifts. It's like a local version of Ghirardelli. They give free fudge samples. Ice cream is fresh and has huge chunks of pralines and chocolates. Ambiance just needs better decor as it cheapens the place needlessly. What a shame since the ice cream is spot on. My snooty kids all say they prefer Ghirardelli in terms of perception. Glad that they're going strong since 1947. And glad it's not one of a the hundreds of gelato places. Next time might try Mr ice cream instead. They need to update their Yelp page as it says that they have validated parking, but they don't. read more
