In the off-chance that I run out of baking supplies and Chocolate Lovers doesn't have what I need in stock, I run to Killion Merchandising in Quiapo, which is second best to my favorite baking supply store in terms of price, quality and the availability of the ingredients. Killion is located in a busy sidestreet in the labyrinthine Quiapo area, and getting there is quite a challenge since the area is almost always densely packed with people, and if you plan on buying things in bulk, maneuvering your vehicle could be quite tough because the streets are narrow.
Getting an order filled always feels like a wrestling match, as you really have to elbow your way to the counter. Killion always has scores and scores of frustrated and harried-looking people just trying to get the hell out of there as fast as possible. However, the inefficient ordering system doesn't help. You almsot have to serve yourself, and you must be prepared with your order slip (you need to write it down yourself, referring to the price lists and the item codes written on boards near the counter). As soon as you hand the saleslady your order ticket, PAY ATTENTION AND WAIT FOR YOUR NAME TO BE CALLED lest you miss and they put you at the back of the queue. The salesladies are always grumpy and rude, but I guess they have to be, since everyone seems to be going there for their baking and cooking supplies and I can't blame the poor ladies if they are tired, hungry, hot or just plain irritated.
Make sure to check your items before you leave, as getting them exchanged in case you mess them up is a pain in the neck. I make sure to pack a lot of patience and determination, but I guess it's worth it when my cookies and muffings turn out fantastic. read more
