One of my favorite spots in Ireland thus far! A total locals spot to go walking and see some wonderful views. This place is incredibly dog friendly (off leash) so you will be greeted by dozens of furry pups running around. There is a slight uphill climb on the trail at one point but it is paved and not too bad overall. Once you get to the top there are wonderful 360 views of the city, and the water including a beautiful obelisk on the top of the hill. You can see Wales from a distance, the city of Dublin and the Wicklow Mountains. Highly recommend this spot, especially if you want to escape touristy Dublin. read more

The last few days have been a disaster with a capital D. As I was celebrating Spain's win my ATM card decided to run away from me, I did abuse that plastic something rotten so escape was somewhat justified. I also got clamped twice... Bringing the total for 2010 to three. €80 a pop is rather painful but not nearly as painful as sitting in my car with a hideous yellow monstrosity immobilising the front tiny wheel as passerbys looked in at me like a dog in an adoption shelter. Sitting in humiliation for over an hour is not a recommended way to lower stress levels. Killiney Hill is. I am now extremely broke so I have to do free things like hike up hills and gaze at the wonderful beauty that is Ireland. There is something so serene, simple, relaxed and romantic about this spot just like stealing that first kiss with someone you are falling hard and fast for. read more

One of the best views in Dublin without question. I love Killiney Hill as I always find something new - there are lots of different paths and routes but all offer great views on one side down over Dalkey village and the quarry or on the other side out to Bray. The main path is Tarmac so perfect if you have a buggy and at the bottom is a nice tea room. Also has a great playground near the car park that has a zip line I'd kill to have a go on ! read more

When I first moved to Dublin as an au-pair, my host parents insisted that we go for a "little walk". Jet lagged, tired, and 6 hours ahead of my 'usual time zone', their simple directions were, "go throw on your jumper and comfortable shoes." They didn't leave much room for questioning or debate. I figured just go with it. I was going to be living there for the next 6 months... what did I have to lose other than sleep? I had not been at their house for 3 hours before we set out on our excursion to Killiney Hill from Shankill. We walked the 1.6 km (1 mile) up and down the hills. Pretty sure weren't going to Granma's house once my eyes saw the view from the top of Killiney Hill. It was almost like I had woke and found myself in a heavenly state. Never in my life had I seen such a breathtaking view such as that. The oblique structure really makes the park so special as well. It does in fact have an observation deck that we went up in. It made the view just that much better. The rolling hills and valleys of Dublin Bay were in full view. You could see the city centre, the Wicklow Mountains, and with it being a cloudless day, you could see the coast of Wales as well. Spectacular! The park has plenty of walk ways. Parking is available at the bottom of the hill, also from there you can walk on down to the beach if you do not want to climb to the top which is a bit of a steep hike up. Totally worth it though if you have the energy. I did it with no sleep and jet lack, then you can do it for sure! Definitely encouraged by me. Go, enjoy this view. Best part of it is that it's free. Take a beer there while you're at it. read more

I love this park. The walks and views are wonderful. There is a great play area for children. The coffee shop is about 5 minutes walk from the main car park where you can sit and enjoy the sunny day when we get it. The parking has much improved over the last month since they removed the walls that were there before. There is a place to recycle your bottles of glass and you can dump your Christmas tree as they grind it up and use to spread where needed in the park. Dogs are fine off the lead provided they have the right owners and children are fine also if they have the right parents. During the Summer months on Sundays you can join the walk and talk as they give you information about the park and also get to go inside the Obelisk to see an even better view. read more

Killiney Hill (Victoria Park) is truly a must visit in Dublin. Opened in 1887 the park is like a beautiful little secret garden with many little paths branching out all over the hill. From the top of the park by the obelisk you can see the whole of Dublin and Dublin bay. Needless to say the views are spectacular. There is one path I found that leads all the way down to Killiney beach. There are plenty of dog walkers in the park but there is so many nooks and crannies in the park you can easily find a your own spot to take in the breathtaking views. A great spot to get lost for a couple of hours and a top spot if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, or just to take in a good view of Dublin. There is a small coffee shop at the Victoria Park entrance if you want to top your visit off with a coffee. Especially a good spot to take people on a visit to Dublin! I also brought my girlfriend up here on our first date. read more

Considering the incredible views and really, very short walk it takes there, Killiney Hill is a great option got grabbing a quick breath of fresh air without using up an entire day to get to and from it. There is a small café at the base of the climb if you are desperately in need of refreshment but honestly, it's a very short walk!. read more

I went on a Saturday with my friend and it was a nice walk to the top of the hill. Such an amazing place to walk your dogs or enjoy a short trip with friends. The coast view was fantastic from the top and you can walk about 23 mins to beautiful Dalkey village for lunch or tea. I would suggest taking a day travel card for the dart and stop in bray afterwood. read more

This is a great place to go, especially in the summer time! Great place to go for a walk, play some football, lie in the sun or take the dogs for a walk or even go for a jog or high paced walk, a great place for excercise in fact! If your a photographer or just generally like taking photos then this is the place to be! Some great views of the sea or Dalkey island or down the dart like towards bray and grey stones! This place is just beautiful. Nestled in between the picturesque village of Dalkey and lovely Killiney Beach, this hill has excellent views and is a lovely place to walk. There are miniature deciduous forests, as well as coniferous ones. There are historical buildings and great places to fly kites. It's the perfect place to come for a family walk with the kids and the dog any time of the year. The view over Dublin is my particular favourite. On a good day you can see Howth and right the way into the city of Dublin. It's also surrounded by lots of other worthwhile place. Definitely a great idea to come here before lunch or a drink in Dalkey or maybe even a stroll along Killiney Beach. read more

Killiney Hill located in the south coast is one of two of the tallest hills on the south coast, the other being Dalkey Hill. It's a really easy walk and well signposted making it easy to navigate. The top of the hill is crowned with an amazing obelisk and its here that you can sit, relax and enjoy beautiful views of the Wicklow Mountains and Dublin city and coast. Walk from Killiney to Dalkey and see some adrenalin loving climbers scale the amazing Dalkey quarry. Killiney Hill and its smaller sister Dalkey Hill are ideal spots for a bracing, windy walk in the countryside without having to stray from Dublin. It is said that Killiney Bay resembles the Bay of Naples (a romantic concept, if only we had the weather to match), and the views of the cliffs from the summit are indeed breathtaking. The streets around the hills have been given Italian names to reflect the Naples comparison; the streets of Vico, Sorrento Terrace, Monte Alverno, San Elmo, Capri are home to Dublin's rich and famous, the most eminent of whom is, of course, Bono. Sorrento Terrace overlooking the Bay is the most coveted address in Ireland; properties here fetched up to a whopping £5.9m during the boom. Film director Neil Jordan owns two of the mansions, and Enya and Jim Sheridan both have homes close by. Bring a pair of binoculars up the hill and see if you can spot any stars lounging around their estates. The hills themselves are covered in wild flowers, heathers, and knarled old trees which form the mature woodland which covers more than half of the land. The hills used to belong to the Killiney Castle estate, but are now the property of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. There are a number of interesting stone obelisks scattered around the hills, and the remains of Dalkey Quarry lie to the side of Dalkey Hill, which once provided the granite used to build Dun Laoghaire Pier. read more

This hill overlooks the wide expanse of the Irish Sea and also over some of Ireland's top real estate. You my just be gazing at Enya or Bono's house if you climb to the top of this hill and gaze out. The trees are lovely on this hill and whether it is raining of sunny and dry being up here is a breath of fresh air for the city soul. There is a very small coffee shop at the bottom of the hill but it makes the most gorgeous hot chocolate. read more

This is a must see place during a visit to Dublin for it's situation, it's panoramic views, not just over the city but also over Killiney stretching off to Bray and the Wicklow mountains. On a clear day you can see Wales beyond Dalkey Island, one of the earliest settlements in Ireland (mesolithic remains on the Island). Just a short DART ride away to Dalkey or Killiney stops. read more
