The owner Skip came out and did a quick assessment saying that there was no compression and that the timing belt likely broke causing severe engine damage. They were willing to dig in and verify the damage but I asked them if I could keep my vehicle there until I could get a truck to tow it back up to northern Virginia. They kindly kept my vehicle until 9 Oct 2024 when I was finally able to pick it up. They even helped me load the vehicle onto the tow dolly. I expected to be charged for an hour or two of labor and possibly storage fees but they said no charge. I even offered to give them some gratis money which they refused. These folks are the friendliest, honest and most generous repair shop I have ever worked with. If you happen to break down while at OBX, this is the shop you want to work on your vehicle. He had one of the mechanics there immediately start work on my car. The mechanic was fairly young, but clearly took pride in his work. Although it was past the time he was supposed to be off, he took his time and made sure he did it right. He also checked the tire pressure, at my request. An oil change is not that big of a deal and it is not a glamorous set-up at their shop, but I had a very good experience with them, which is more important to me than anything. I recommend trying their services, if you need work done on your car.

He went ahead and replaced it and I paid the lady in the office (who, by the way, was very nice). As I was pulling away, he was just standing there glaring at me.
