I was on my way from near Chicago to MD on US 30 when the oil light came on. The next exit was…read moreOttawa Rd less than a half mile away. I took the exit and pulled into the Marathon station. I bought 2 quarts of oil, poured it in and it immediately poured right back on the ground. The station owners gave Mack Automotive's phone number; I called and Colin said he would come up and look at it and then come back after they closed and tow it to their place. After they closed he came up with his truck and a jack and fellow mechanics. They jacked it up and started checking on things, deciding that it was most likely the oil pan plug had come out. I am a mechanic's son and could tell from their diagnostic discussions that they were all experienced mechanics. They removed the under body pan and found the plug. They reinstalled it and added oil. The car started and sounded normal. Since the car had been serviced about two weeks earlier in IL they told me that I should call the dealer right then and there to report this incident, which I did before I started on. As I said, Colin and his crew are seasoned mechanics. But they are also good people. They could have said it was after hours and they would tow it to their place and work on it tomorrow. I didn't have time to…read morefigure it out myself, so I was okay with paying the idiot tax, but then my alternator belt blew two days after they fixed my ground problem? Ok, its not a great car, I'll chalk it up to coincidence. Replaced the belt, brand new belt broke the next day? Closer look revealed my crankshaft pully had been cut on. Not broken or split, like an old part or like something banging around in the engine, nope, a nice clean even cut. Fresh cut, with no wear. I guess they thought I was a mark. I replaced the crankshaft pulley myself. Next time I have an electrical problem I'll figure that out myself too I guess. You can't trust these guys, thats for sure. I hope they close down. This is not how you get repeat business, boys. You won't get any more of mine.
