I love their old-school, classic New England, Ivy Style products; the two authentic Indian madras shirts I ordered this spring however, are extremely undersized. I usually wear large to extra large in shirts so i ordered them in XXL to be sure; when they arrived and I tried them on, however, they are in reality slightly smaller even than a large in a standard men's shirt. I like them so much I'm keeping them, however. I don't know if this sizing standard applies to any of their other men's tops. I tend to think not, as I have noted wonky sizing in Indian madras shirts from another retailer and I suspect it is due to to the manufacturers in India having different standards than US. I also have a pair of their madras board shorts, and I'd say it fits true to size. Having said all this, Kiel James Patrick is extremely generous and lightning-fast in making exchanges, as long as clothing is unworn, unwashed, and with all tags remaining on the garment and received writhin the deadline. Some people consider this brand to be very expensive; I find them to cost less than some competitors, however, which is very pleasing and figured in my buying decision. I just gotta close with a shout-out to their packaging: The elaborate box and inside wrapping will blow you away and ensures your product arrives without wrinkles or any sort of damage from shipping. read more

Kiel James Patrick is a little store in the very front of Bowen's Wharf. It is the brand's flagship store, and their only physical location. Kiel James Patrick and his wife Sarah are the founders of the store. I first learned about this brand through Sarah's blog, classygirlswearpearls.com. This store is very small, it is difficult to navigate, due to so much foot traffic all at once. They have items for men and women. Their sweaters are pretty trendy, with light woven knits and some really cute embroidery. The sweaters are made in the USA. They are not cheap, averaging at $180 a pop! They have dresses, that are sure to be a statement, tee shirts, shorts and accessories. Everything is pretty overpriced. Their knot and rope bracelets are very trendy, and these are a bit more decently priced at $28. I'm extremely disappointed in the pearl sunglass strap. The marketing and photographs are extremely misleading. The strap photographed and sold online had 51 pearls and when I received mine in person, they were only 38 and it's extremely short. when I called and talked with them, they said they'd let marketing know, but didn't really care. Ordered 2 Polos because I wanted to purchase a quality product "Made in America", when it finally came a month later the Navy color looked nearly pre-faded, and the fit seemed stretched out making it wide when wearing it moved all over like it's a bell. When I checked the tag I was even more disappointed that it says "Made in China" so much for Made in America, I had gone to the store before this and grabbed an Oxford to find out it's "Made in Vietnam" so for all the marketing of the New England style nothing is made here at least not what I got, sadly I returned everything since I'm not going to pay American Made Prices for things that aren't, well "Made in America" I suppose you do what you've got to do to turn a profit and while I don't fault them completely for doing what nearly every other retailer does, it just comes off wrong idk why. read more

In the clusters store around this part of Newport RI, you'll find this neat clothing boutique store that sells cozy New England wear and themed nautical trinkets. They have plenty to look at if you're planning to shop, I would say this is more on the higher end scale since they are pricey for high-quality merchandise. I ended up buying a belt from here for $90, a memento that's gorgeous and useful at the same time. Also, if you stop by here and don't end up buying anything, they have these fabulous looking tent as changing room in the corners that is Instagram-worthy. Overall service: The staff here was pretty quiet, maybe too quiet, basically left me alone while I shopped and looked around. I ordered the Madeline dress. I love it. I wasn't sure what size to order, but I ordered the extra large. I am 5'3 in height, but large in the chest. It fits beautifully. It has a slim look. The clothes I have from here are classic, well made, last a long time, and are amazing staple pieces in my wardrobe. I really wanted to have a good experience with this store. I follow them online, and they present such small town charm and kindness, however, I received the opposite. I contacted Customer Service asking to pay extra to have something shipped in time for the holiday for a very sick family member spending Christmas in the hospital. I just wanted them to have some nice slippers and socks to brighten up their hospital gown. Unfortunately, the answer was rude, curt and unhelpful...a flat out "NO". Followed with, "Check the fine print on our website about shipping. Even if you order by Dec. 12, we won't help you."WOW... so saddened to see such lack of caring and unwillingness to help. Everything here is too small. I bought an XL and XXL version of the same sweater online both too small.I measured the XX and X and the items were the exact same size. Also, I'm not sure KJP distinguishes between men's and women's clothes when they size bc they offer the same designs and everything is super short. I'm 5'10 and everything is tight in the shoulders, arms and short in length. It's over priced relative to the product quality. I'm done with the brand. read more

This review is for the online shop. I have been a customer and fan of KJP since 2011. Most recently, I mistakenly ordered the wrong size for my toddler and made arrangements with them to extend the return period for the wrong size - I just needed the time to check the size that I ordered a couple of weeks later (because you know, life of a toddler mom). I was in contact with their customer service regarding how to process the return (as I could no longer do it on their website because it is an extended return period). Unfortunately, my toddler and I got sick three times back to back and so the return fell by the wayside. After the holidays, I was getting back on my feet and I asked them (very nicely) to accept my return. I explained what had happened but they still refused to accept the return. This is such a POOR customer service experience to think I am a long time customer of theirs. read more

It's a beautiful shop with absolutely gorgeous pieces. All pieces at KJP are high quality. Prices will fit this and the prices around the rest of the Wharf, but you really get what you pay for both in terms of product and service. Most notable when I stopped in on a summer Saturday afternoon was the individual that helped me. She was incredibly kind and took the time to help me try on a couple of bracelets. I was sold instantly because she made it such a great experience. I have seen KJP on Instagram for some time now, but never bought anything online because I wanted to see the pieces in person. Fortunately this shop opened up and I know proudly have my own anchor rope bracelet. I am anchored in style, undoubtedly, like the rest of the pieces at KJP!! BUYER BEWARE!!! This place has HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! What happened to good customer service in the U.S.? Companies that appreciate their customers and reasonably try to help them. On December 10th, I purchased The Lovebird Fair Isle Sweater for my wife for Christmas. When the time came and passed for it to be delivered, I looked at my email to track the order. I saw a message saying my order was canceled because of suspected fraud. Come to find out, the suspected fraud was because my IP address showed I made the ordered more than 500 miles away from my shipping address. I guess KJP, did not take into consideration that customers place online orders using a VPN (for online security) or when they are traveling. They had my contact information (why ask for it if you are not going to utilize it) and they did not bother to reach out with any concerns. I contacted the company by email and phone, but they refused to help me whatsoever. The product is now sold out so I can't even reluctantly order it if I wanted to. KJP's representative's attitude was, we don't care you are one little measly customer, and we have plenty to go around. I am so disappointed because my wife now will not get the sweater she liked, and I am left desperately trying to find something different. Customers are helpless in these situations, so this is my only way to express my distress and hope something like this does not happen to you when ordering from this company. SHAME ON YOU Kiel James Patrick!!! I will order from Wooden Ships from now on. Wooden Ships has better customer service and come to find out, the Wooden Ships' sweaters are softer and less scratchy than KJP's sweaters. read more

I emailed the company and they said they would replace it. That never happened. This company is completely unethical. When I did correspond with the company they said the bracelet should not get wet. I ordered a shirt a month ago as a gift for my son and was fully charged upon order. The shirt still has not arrived and the company never notified me of a problem with it being shipped. I called to follow up on it and the company cannot assure me when it will be in and shipped. Very very disappointed. Bought a $70 collar for my dog in December who was due to be born in April. So excited for him to finally fit into it. He wore it from August to September (approximately 10 uses) when the stitching came out And the collar broke. You could tell it was hardly ever worn. I sent pictures. The person I spoke to sarcastically replied "this isn't a lifetime warranty" after I explain to her he only wore it 10 times. My dollar store collar still works (that didn't break)My review is they have Expensive prices for cheap quality and poor/rude customer service.
