As a full time active duty military personnel, I'm glad Kama'aina Kids supports the military community and our children because it's hard not being able to raise our babies ourselves but they will do it and do it to the best of their ability. Although many of the previous reviews are not very positive, I've found this day care to be a great place to take my child to. She has been going to this daycare for a little over a year now and she's about to turn 2 years old in a few months. She was still in her infant stage when she first came to Kama'aina Kids, and they have watched her sprout into the strong, independent and outgoing baby girl she is today with me. I could not have done this without them. She went from rolling to crawling to stumbling until she could walk and run. Her coos and cries have become hand signs, words, basic sentences and even singing. They teach her almost all the things she knows, and I couldn't be more proud and grateful for the effort her teachers put into her. I love how she's soo friendly with others and can be more sociable than myself sometimes, haha! She enjoys the company of other kids as well as adults, has a big heart and an even bigger personality and she gets a lot of that from her day care. She is with them every day, Monday to Friday for over 9hrs daily so they pretty much are her 2nd family at this point. Her teachers love her and every adult staff member that passes her in the hallway knows her name. They really know how to make this mama smile knowing she's in good hands the moment I drop her off and leave the building. The facility itself is clean and bright. When you walk in, you'll find the front desk, check in kiosk, bulletin board with announcements and important notices. There's a table to the right that has the monthly breakfast and lunch menus, applications and other family support source documents. The hallway has all the classrooms and they're each separated by age groups with a minimum of 3 teachers per class. The walls of the hallway are decorated with artwork created by all the children, and it changes every month with the seasons, holidays and special events throughout the year. The best part is you get to take it all home when they put up new artwork and start a collection of all your child's mater pieces. I have yet to organize them all into a binder! As our children learn and grow, there will be accidents and she has had a few while in the care of Kama'aina Kids but I understand. Yes, I have been upset about it the first few times but the teachers really try their best to watch and care for all the kids assigned to them. She does come home with a written report at the end of the day and they notify us via phone call or on the app when the accidents happen. You also can't control what other children will do but I'm sure they do what they can so it doesn't happen again. I'm just glad she comes home safe everyday. The little bumps and bruises here and there are minor and my baby girl is trooper for sure! She'll cry for a moment and go right back to playing like nothing happened. All and all, I would choose Kama'aina Kids, Kalaeloa again and again. They are close to home which makes drop off and pick up convenient. The teachers are all great and I haven't experienced any negative interactions with them at all. The facility is clean, organized, AC'd and has fenced in playgrounds to keep your babies safe and busy. They provide daily meals so the kids have plenty to eat, have activity schedules to keep your babies learning and host special events so that parents stay involved with the school. They are not just a daycare but place to help your child grow physically, mentally and emotionally. I'm happy I chose Kama'aina Kids and I hope many others make the same choice I did so they can experience what a great place this can be for parents and all of our babies! They always have fun activities and focus on both learning and play, which has been invaluable for our toddler. The play areas and classrooms are clean and they have a TON of fun activities. They use the Procare app to communicate with parents throughout the day, and they send photos of my keiki's play and activities at least once a week, which we always love to see. Food is included in the price (they have menus for parents to see what is being served each day) and meals are well-balanced. They also help with potty training and other important milestones. My two year old has learned to count, colors, how to pretend play, animals, shapes... And tons more. We started off at a home-based daycare when our little was 4 months old to save money since we knew the provider, but when she moved, we spent a lot of time looking at options. Daycare in general is expensive and Kamaaina Kids isn't the cheapest option, but they are so awesome for our family that it's worth the cost. Ever since Covid now even four years after Covid, there's a huge disconnect between teachers and parents with the inclusion of staff members. The school used to be fun and engaging. parents use too engage and talk to the school employees while taking their children to school, but now, four years after Covid, you are unable to get on school grounds to walk to take your child to class. The only time you meet your childs teacher is for five minutes before the start of the school year, they will only encourage you to use an app to communicate with the teacher, but then will encourage you to set up a meeting with the teacher if there is a concern you have.. there seems to be only 1 staff member that handles any events or coordinations for anything, which is not enough to handle a whole entire school. It's very sad the lack of effort with the office staff members within that school, the website and Facebook page shows it compared to the other schools in the same district also other schools that are in the area has allowed parents to communicate with the staff members and teachers on the regular basis and opened up the school. Now, I understand the safety of the children's well-being, not allowing people within the schools however, if they had volunteers like they used to or staff members that actually patrolled the halls there wouldn't be an issue for safety: there is nothing fun about this school anymore, which is extremely sad. We have chosen to pull our child out of the school. The school is very far behind in regards to technology. No communication is ran on a text system; if an issue happened at school you might receive a email a day or two later. If the school is closed for a water main break you won't know until you arrive at the school. Other nearby schools has a system wide text system. But Iroquois is very old school and sees no issues within their grounds or the way they handle things, but the teacher turnover rate is also very high at this school because of this very reason.

She mentioned next steps would include talking to the principal and everytime we picked my son up it was a super negative report never a single positive thing said about my son. I would expect teachers to work with children during their first school experience on their behaviors to help them adjust, but this was not my experience at New Hope. They seemed very quick to give up and complain about the situation. Remember this is someone's child and only saying negative things doesn't make a family excited to send their child here. the teacher suggested we needed to bring an aid in the classroom. He was immediately tested for his grade level in all subjects. His test scores in Math showed that he was below the National average for his age and grade level. This is something that we already new, since his Math skills were very poor. The first year at Corvid was a struggle because he needed to catch up to his grade level and stay current with all other subjects. He finished the year not only testing at his grade level for Math, but excelling and surpassing his grade level in other subjects. Our son is now a High School Junior at Corvid Academy. He is on his way to graduating next year! Not only has he been able to excel in his studies, he also has the opportunity to gain public speaking, power point presentations and teaching skills. The highlight of his experience at Corvid Academy has been his participation in the amazing yearly Theater Productions. Through the direction of Ms. Shannon Sofa, Corvid Academy has put on spectacular full production musical plays such as "West Side Story". Our son has played major roles in "Grease" and "Disney". Being placed in that school was probably the best thing that my parents could have done for me. I'm not gonna lie and say that going to that school was a perfect experience, because it wasn't. When I first started, I was supposed to be placed in 5th grade, but due to low testing scores was placed a year back. I had a terrible problem with math first coming Corvid. I was a 4th grader who couldn't do simple subtraction, but through numerous one-on-one time with Mr. Johnathan (a teacher at the time) and Mrs. Sofa, I eventually got the hang of it. They took my strength, reading comprehension, and wrote out instructions on how to do it for me to read it and I got it! They then began to do this for each of my math difficulties. I stayed there for the rest of my grades and slowly but surely got caught back up. It was not easy, there were times when I fell behind and thought that I should just give up, but I can guarantee tell you that the teachers do NOT give up on you. No matter how difficult you may be. There were times where I wasn't a good student and I did some things, but they never turned their back on me. Mrs. Sofa cares so much about her students and she wants to see each and every one succeed, even hard-headed students like myself. I believe that I was a junior in High school when Mrs. Sofa and I had a personal talk about what I should do after High School. She suggested that since I wasn't as strong in Math, that I should become an English teacher. She was always telling me how good I was with my English skills and comprehension, so I really took that to heart. She was not the only one who really made an impact on me. Mrs. Shannon also did. She's like a big sister (or even a mom) to me. She's always be there for me to talk to when I felt like I couldn't talk to anyone. She was always there to make sure that I was on track to graduating and when I fell behind she made sure to get me caught up. She made countless schedules and made sure I kept up with them and helped me with the hard lessons. She's also the very one who brought musical theater into my life. She really believed in me and cast me as "Anita" in the production of "West Side Story", "Rizzo" in "Grease", and even the lead of Peter Pan in "Disney Enchanted Dreams." She worked constantly with me on each role. From rolling my r's to becoming more young-boy-like, she was there constantly helping me to perfect my singing and acting. Then there was also Ms. Mary, she's the High School TA, I have to give her props. She's always their making sure we know what we have to be on, and she's always updating our weekly lists so that we don't get behind. Even if we do get behind, she's always there to help make a list to get us back on track. She's aIso an amazing confidant to talk to. I've had a lot of talks and vents with her, and she gives amazing advice that I always take to heart. I will forever be grateful for everything that Corvid has done for me and I will never forget the memories that I made here. I'm currently at Leeward Community College and getting my associates in Secondary Teaching. I hope to transfer to a 4-year-college after my 2 years. I sometimes come by to help out with the kids to get volunteer hours for a college class, and I hope to do more in the future. I like to think of it as giving back to the school for all those years.
