    Manzanita Elementary School

    Manzanita Elementary School

My granddaughters are doing very well at Manzanita. They have liked all of their teachers so far…read moreand in my opinion the school is meeting and exceeding expectations for their progression from grade-to-grade; especially considering the fact that state funding has decreased dramatically over the years. In spite of this, the principal and staff are doing a great job. They are positive, friendly and responsive to recommendations and concerns we have had -- mostly due to bullies, which is a big problem in all schools. I appreciate that the principal recognizes this and takes the appropriate action to help resolve the problem, as needed. If more parents were involved in providing the requested minimal supplies (which often comes out of the dedicated teacher's own pockets) and contributing to fundraisers and helping their children with homework it would make a big difference in assuring their child's success and advancing their education. I suspect many of the teachers are underpaid and understaffed due to the limited funding. Parents should be more cognizant of this and the other challenges imposed on Oregon's public schools. With that knowledge it would behoove us all to voice our concerns to state legislators and pitch in where needed (whenever possible) and be more appreciate of the good job these teachers and staff are doing.

My daughter hated going to school every day. She said her teacher was grumpy and never smiled. Not an environment we wanted to our 5 year old to be in. The teacher told me that she did not want parents to volunteer in her class because she was very triple A. The principal got involved and eventually let me volunteer. I would describe the classroom as very "militant." In addition, after reviewing the "porn literacy", sexual education curriculum for K-12, & CRT/identity politics-oriented material we have concluded that our Oregon public education system is no longer fostering an education based on principles and values but rather fosters an indoctrination of our children. We moved our daughter to a private school, and she is flourishing academically and LOVES going to school every day. We definitely made the right decision.

I cannot recommend this school enough. There is just not enough praise given for the accommodations and considerate teachers and the staff at Parkside Elementary. My son attended Parkside for 4th grade, his teacher was incredible and worked alongside him with his extra needs, she encouraged him to challenge the limits and expectations that came from his special needs. Mrs Holland made sure that my son did not feel out of place or like he didn't belong even while respectfully and willingly accommodating his 504. The open communication from his teacher was frequent, transparent and comforting. The process of getting my sons 504 in place was made so much easier with the teamwork of all of the staff, making sure he had everything he needed while recognizing where he should be challenged along with places he may struggle, They made sure that every teacher/staff member that worked with him knew of these accommodations, so it was never a struggle or something that I had to continually fight for. Anyways - if you don't want to read the whole review, just know - **The school is incredible. It is very clean. The staff is very accommodating with any kind of special needs. The teachers are down to earth and are there because they have a heart for it.** I absolutely recommend Parkside Elementary School.
