My wife stood up to the Principal and was publically mocked for doing so. I have talked to the Archdiocese of Portland regarding this. Don't know if anything will be done. One can afford a full-time tutor for the cost of this school and have your child academically challenged. Next year there is a different Principal. Hopefully that one is better.

My daughter is…read morein third grade and goes to the local Walford charter school, which is great for positive social interactions and hands-on learning experiences, but it is definitely lacking in providing proper academics in core areas. I knew that if I chose this type of school for my daughter, providing her with a tutor would be absolutely imperative and necessary to her ability to thrive academically. And so, when my daughter was in kindergarten, I began my search for a tutor in the Grants Pass area. I searched Google and the internet, my daughter's former school teacher and principal, and even the school board to ask them for advice, or suggestions, on how to obtain a tutor in the Grants Pass area. They had no advice, or information, whatsoever pertaining to tutoring or supplemental education services. In fact, I made what I thought was a joke. In jest, I proposed going to RCC and checking the bulletin boards for college students offering some type of tutoring services in their spare time for extra money. The woman at the school board said, "That's a great idea," and the most likely thing I could do to find a tutor in the area. I couldn't believe that supplemental education was such a low priority, or concern, for the many parents in the Grants Pass area. So, without any other options, my daughter went through her kindergarten and first grade years without the tutor she needed. At the beginning of her second grade year I did another of my occasional google searches, but this time everything was different. Upon searching for tutoring services in the Grants Pass area, Sophie's Education Corner was the first, and only, listing. I immediately called Sophie to schedule an initial placement (or grade level) interview, and then subsequent lessons. Apparently Sophie is a retired teacher and had just moved to the area. At my daughter's initial interview, she was two entire grade levels behind. Sophie was so understanding, and worked with my daughter and I to develop a strategic educational plan specifically for my daughter and her individual needs. After meeting with Sophie twice a week for one hour over the past year, my daughter has advanced two grade levels and is now at, or above, her current grade level. I was absolutely thrilled when I received the results from her standardized tests this year. Her school teacher is also in awe of her progress. She has learned so much with Sophie that she now already knows how to do many of the lessons her school teacher is introducing to the class for the first time. She has become one of her school teacher's primary examples for correct answers and strong work, being consistently called upon to answer the toughest questions. My daughter's confidence level (with learning, reading and in general) has also soared. She almost seems like a completely different child. Long gone are the days when she would come home, almost in tears, because the other children had teased her for her lack of academic prowess, and good riddance. My daughter has consistently been making progress in spite of covid19 and the distance learning curriculum provided by her school. She is one of the lucky few, and I know that it is because of Sophie. Sophie also offers zoom lessons if Covid19 is a primary concern. Sophie's rates are very low compared to other parts of the country and are extremely reasonable. I know that she will even go out of her way to accommodate a client's financial situation, as well as schedule, and find a way to make it work, if possible. Sophie has become an integral part of our extended family, and I don't know what we would do, or where my daughter would be, without her. I am so much more confident in my daughter's future, knowing that my daughter will continue her lessons with Sophie well into her middle or even high school years. If you are in need of a tutor in the Grants Pass area, Sophie is your answer. I highly recommend that you give Sophie a try. You won't be disappointed. There is no tutor like Sophie.

We had to pull our child from kindergarten at Manzanita. Our child was not stimulated…read moreeducationally, and the teacher told me she had no option for our daughter stating she had to "teach to the majority." They never tested her for TAG. My daughter hated going to school every day. She said her teacher was grumpy and never smiled. Not an environment we wanted to our 5 year old to be in. The teacher told me that she did not want parents to volunteer in her class because she was very triple A. The principal got involved and eventually let me volunteer. I would describe the classroom as very "militant." In addition, after reviewing the "porn literacy", sexual education curriculum for K-12, & CRT/identity politics-oriented material we have concluded that our Oregon public education system is no longer fostering an education based on principles and values but rather fosters an indoctrination of our children. We moved our daughter to a private school, and she is flourishing academically and LOVES going to school every day. We definitely made the right decision.
