This salon advertises that they specialize in working with autistic children, which is exactly why my sister chose to bring her 5-year-old autistic son there. He was able to get his haircut, although, like many children with autism, he cried and struggled during the process. After they left, my sister received a text from someone at the salon saying they would no longer cut her son's hair because another customer complained and described him as "one of the worst clients" they've had. I find this incredibly disappointing and upsetting. If you specifically advertise that you specialize in working with autistic children, you should understand that haircuts can be overwhelming and that some children may cry, become distressed, or need extra patience and understanding. He is FIVE years old. He wasn't being intentionally difficult--he was overwhelmed and needed compassion. Instead of showing understanding, the salon chose to shame him and refuse him service. I would strongly encourage parents of autistic children to think twice before choosing this place. Advertising that you specialize in autistic children means more than just saying it--it means actually having the patience, compassion, and understanding to work with them. read more

I had my husband take my two year-old to her first professional haircut. I wanted to be there, but I couldn't because of work. I made the appointment through Yelp and explained what kind of cut I wanted and how short. The lady's name is Rita. My husband said she knew how to interact with kids. She had an iPad and asked what show my daughter wanted to watch. My daughter was able to watch trash truck during her haircut which I'm sure she enjoyed. Her first haircut was a success. She did not cry and she willingly got in the fire truck chair. She even got a certificate for having her first haircut. Rita put a little bit of her baby hair in an envelope for me to have as a keepsake. I would take my daughter here again for her next haircut. read more

Brought my 5 year old son for a haircut today. I was informed they specialize with autistic kids, I reached out to rita and she said yes and she was aware of his autism. My son cries and screams every time he has a haircut. After the appointment I recieved a text saying she can no longer cut my sons hair because of complaints. This is unfortunate & heartbreaking. I have never felt so unsupported. There was another lady cutting hair besides rita who had such a mad face, no smiles, just looked annoyed and disgusted from my son. Shame on her. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Businesses have the right to serve people that they choose. Hair salons that cater to special needs kids are few and far in between, which is why my family was overjoyed that this salon advertises as such. The last thing we expected was for our nephew to be treated as a burden rather than a welcomed guest the day he got his haircut. Not all stylists are equipped to deal with children on the autism spectrum and that's ok. What's not ok is agreeing to cut his hair and then requesting he not come back because other customers complained. That's called ableism and this shop is guilty of it. And on top of that, another hairstylist was scowling at him as he struggled with his emotions. He is five yet it's this particular hairstylist that is the one that needs to "grow up." read more

Not sure who was the stylist here before Rita, but Rita does an amazing job. My son had always cried through his whole appointments prior to her. We are so blessed she is patient and relatable aka she's also a mom. We love her! read more

I called in the morning because it was time for my daughter to have her first haircut. Her hair was constantly in her eyes and she refused to let us put bows or do anything with it. She's very sensitive and hates anyone touching her face and head. Rita had availability the same day and told us to come on by. Her setup with the little car and Ms Rachel playing on an iPad was great and it did just the trick. Now our daughter can see again and is rocking her cute little bangs. We will definitely come back for future haircuts. Thanks Rita! read more

I found Kids Carousel Cuts here on Yelp. Took my 18M son for his first professional cut. I called/ texted and made my appointment with Rita. Her station is located inside of a different salon. It's a Filipina ran business (which i love) ... She did so good with him. She's sweet and super patient. We will be returning customers . read more

I did my son's hair yesterday and I unfortunately butchered the back. Today, my husband took my 16month old boy to this place and we fully recommend Rita to little ones. We went to Rita for our son's first haircut. He's 4 1/2 and Autistic. Rita was wonderful with him. She prioritized his comfort and was patient whenever he got a little too wiggly in the chair. She has a iPad for the kiddos, so they can watch a cartoon if that would help distract them or relax them. Pricing was reasonable. We will definitely see her for the next cut! read more

Took my 18 month old here today after I saw a few suggestions on Facebook for the best kids haircut place. I was really nervous because He's not great with strangers, especially with strangers trying to touch him and I didn't want to traumatize him and have him hate haircuts forever. I was surprised with our visit because it went so much better than I thought it would. He had a few moments here and there but Rita was SO patient and friendly with him. She knew when to give him breaks and how to redirect his focus onto something else when he was starting to get overwhelmed. I would HIGHLY recommend Rita at Kids Carousel Cuts, she was really great with my son and overall made sure it was a pleasant experience for everyone. I'm so glad we went and I will absolutely be returning. read more

I called and asked if they still had the cute chairs that were cars or motorcycles for the kids to get their haircuts in and was told that the original place had them but had closed down and now has a new owner but she did say she had a fire truck one and we went ahead and schedule an appointment that same day. Came in and got our temperatures checked and I showed her the Yelp discount and she gladly accepted it! Got my kid a trim n new bangs in no time. I don't think we plan to come back though. I really liked what the previous owner had for the kids to sit in. My main goal was just to have my kid experience having their haircut in a cute chair was all. I kinda got what I wanted out of the whole experience but would suggest to everyone to try her out! She was very sweet and if your looking to have a haircut, any age I would suggest her. read more

We had such a great first haircut appointment. She is so easy to communicate with via text and email. I've been cutting my son's hair and it was time for a professional... She led the moment right as we arrived! Took her time but was also quick. Guided me on how I could help, an iPad was ready with a cartoon, and she was able to keep him manageable with a lollipop towards the end for finishing touches. He is very stubborn and she handled him really well. Super appreciate how it's a great memory for him and us. And, it's a great haircut, too! So so so happy since he wiggles so much. read more

Rita was amazing with our 1 year old son! A great experience and will definitely be going back for his next haircut.

My son was due for his haircut, he was scared of scissors and wouldn't let me do his haircut. I was so nervous when i went in, but Rita said not to worry, and she was right. She made him so comfortable and took good care of him. So happens about the service. Thanq Rita. read more

I'm not one to leave 1 star reviews lightly. But got my daughters first haircut today. And not sure if they forgot how to cut hair in the stay at home shut downs but her hair is so uneven. The left side is about half a inch longer then the right. I'll never go here again..... and because it was cut as a bob it's already short so I don't want to get it cut shorter to fix it. Also my daughter did very good and stayed perfectly still. So there's really no excuse for how uneven this is. read more

My son just got the worst haircut here and I'm highly pissed off that I had to pay for it. She didn't give any effort at all. When she was lining him up she was looking at the front door. My son has been coming here for quite some time now but this last haircut I never want to come back. Didn't expect the best because my son doesn't hold still but I expect a little effort from hairstylist with black shorthair. Tammy the owner is great. She is why I gave 2 stars instead of just one. Recently she has raised prices and hired (or rented stations to) some people who are NOT good. It doesn't look good for the future of KCC. Tammy doesn't seem to be around much any more. The last few times I went Tammy was not there. It was different women each time and each was worse than the last. The final straw was an older woman who has zero patience with my 4 year old. Didn't listen to what we wanted. Rushed through the cut as if she needed to go smoke or something cause her hands were shaking bad It's very sad to see a small business that has been around for so long go downhill so fast. Unfortunately I don't see this place to be open much longer. read more

The lady was very professional and good with kids. The haircut looked great! I would highly recommend her.

Worst experience ever. I took my 14 month old for his first haircut. Seeing this place had decent reviews I decided to give them a try. My son was very cooperative and his haircut came out as if a lawnmower lost control. So choppy and uneven. He has some really long hairs around his ears while the rest is way to short, even bald spots. I am so disappointed. Then to top it off, when we were leaving my other boy goes to move the seat they sit children on and a HUGE cockroach goes crawling to the other side of the salon. My son asked me what that was and I just grabbed him and walked away. I couldn't tell you the name of the person that did his hair because she didn't introduce herself. Very unfriendly. You would think for being a kids place they would be more friendly. My sons haircut took over an hour. He was crying and screaming by the end and she still wasn't done while the other lady was on her third kid. I would not recommend this place at all. I would have rather spent $60 on haircut then this crap. read more

I called in the morning and got an afternoon appointment for my son who seriously needed a haircut. Tammy was professional, quick and made my son feel welcome. She cut his hair while he sat on a motorcycle watching Paw Patrol. After she was done cutting, she put gel in his new 'do and combed it over. The kids' cut cost $16.95 and he got a lollipop for being a good client. Awesome! read more

I've taken my toddler son to get his hair cut more then a few times at kid's places. Normally he fusses, moves, and cries a little to a lot depending on the day. I do my best to calm him and hold his hands away from the scissors (if needed) and eventually he sits still and eats his snacks. Anywhere we've gone, they have been pretty understanding of his fear. They have always handled things calmly and gently. Just like they have worked with other kids who have been upset, which happens. I've seen it. It can be scary for a young child until they get used to it. We've always walked away with a good haircut. Yesterday, we walked away with a very choppy haircut and with a feeling of being rushed through the cut and rushed out. I don't expect a half hour hair appointment for a toddler, but I do expect some time to make sure that people walk away with a haircut that won't make stranger stop and ask me if my toddler cut his own hair. (This happened yesterday!) Also, someone calm who won't get visibly stressed and upset over a child who is crying. This is why we go to children's places. The environment, experience, and skill when working with children. I tried to do the things that normally would calm him down in just a few minutes. I also did all the things the hairstylist suggested because I felt she was very stressed over the crying and hoping it would help the situation and help her focus. Me going back and forth getting things, didn't help. It made things worse and made for more fearful toddler. Rushing because he was crying, didn't help anything either. It just created a really bad haircut. Since he was upset and we were on our way to a funeral, I asked if I could use their sink to spray off his head quickly since he was a mess after. Nope! Couldn't do that because he's too small. (At other places, they have washed his hair at the big sink with his cut. I didn't even need to ask) Plus, I was told that there were other people waiting. Our cut was less then ten minutes! They actually took us earlier then our appointment time and the other people had not been waiting long. I cleaned him up as good as I could and asked her to fix the back a little. I got an "I'll try." She didn't seem to care, even if he was finally holding still. She didn't ask me if it was ok...nothing. It felt like she just wanted us to leave. I thought I was very kind to her and tried not to be rude myself so I don't understand her lack of caring. I would think that when working with children, you know that crying and struggling are just part of the job and eventually they grow and are excited for hair cuts. read more

Was super hot, felt very rushed. The girl was nice enough but did a horrible job on my daughter's hair. Her bangs are so uneven. It was too hot to even stand there any longer to get her to fix them. Definitely an overpriced hair cut for such a bad job. Now I get to try to fix their mistake. I could have just done it myself. read more

Rita was absolutely amazing. She's such a professional! My son crying and freaking out didn't even faze her. She gave gave him a break, as needed. Patiently waited for him to calm down. Gave him a lollipop. Turned on Cocomelon. She let my son lead and she took her time lining him up and giving him a cool haircut! She is very detail-oriented. Friendly, kind and warm. Open to my ideas! I could tell she's got a lot of experience! Safe to say, she is now my son's official hairstylist! It only took one visit and I'm a believer! 5/5 stars! Went here today, from out of town, desperately needed a kids cut for a child who despises clippers. The gal was kind, accommodating, and patient with us. Happy with haircut, which was not perfect but considering that my son was shrugging his shoulders and moving, I'm happy it turned out as well as it did. In reading the reviews, I saw that several people commented on how their cut wasn't great, so I went in expecting that could happen... but given how much he moved, it met my expectations. Cut fast. 16.99/cut. Able to call and make reservations but they do walk-ins too. Only had to wait for 5 min. Would come back. read more

I've been taking my son here for a year! Just now started checking in. The ladies are great with my son. They are very patient and listen to the parents' tips and suggestions for their kid's haircut. I just go there because my son loves it and the ladies are nice. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I took my daughter here for a very simple haircut. It was supposed to just be a straight cut. From the beginning I was worried. The person cutting her hair was holding the scissors without any regard where it was pointing. So I had to watch very closely. The person that cut my daughter's hair was moving very slow. It was so slow that it didn't even seem normal. She finished the haircut and one side was longer than the other so I asked her to fix it. She went ahead and tried to fix it, but nothing really happened. It's still the same (one side longer than the other) but worse because it wasn't straight at the back either. I got so impatient and since I had very little time left, I just paid and left the building. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND COMING TO THIS PLACE. read more

My husband walked in to see if he could get me 3 yo's hair cut. He wanted to make sure that there was staff that new how to line or fade. So he walks in and immediately was greeted with a rude "how can i help you", like she already had a problem. Mind you she was sitting down and there were ZERO customers. He asked his question and she said "no, we don't do that here, they cut hair like that down the street". That is fine. I say this because 1st impressions are lasting and I will NEVER suggest this place to anyone. You have to treat people nice and friendly regardless if you can help them or not. My son has always gotten his haircut at the bx on base but I decided to try a place that was more kid friendly. Even though we were the only ones there the whole experience felt rushed. The hairstylist was kind enough to show him the clippers but didn't seem to have patience when he was moving around which led to her butchering his cut. I regretted tipping after i saw how bad the cut was. I highly recommend parents just avoid the overpriced haircut and stick to a Supercuts. read more

So I used to go here and see Jamie, she did an amazing job with my sons hair and my son liked her. We brought him here a month or so back and an older woman was working and said Jamie was no longer there then continued to talk poorly about Jamie infront of my 3 year old for the duration of the haircut. Only to be followed by complaining about my son and then giving him a terrible haircut. We go back again because my son loves the cars chairs and there is a different older woman who is grumpy and rude. Not ever coming back, this place is really terrible now. read more
