Autism event for April 20
Lovell W.

I'll start by saying that we've always had good experiences here. My daughter loves her haircut, and she chose to get it straightened. I also take my autistic son since he doesn't like going to the barbershop... the trimmers used here aren't loud. Jen (the owner) has a great sublimation setup, so if moms are looking for that last-minute birthday shirt, you can get one made here or one of the already made ones. Sometimes you get lucky with street parking and sometimes you have to look around, so go a bit early to give yourself time to find parking.

Extremely kids and family friendly hair salon. The hair stylist is very patient and took her time to explain the process with kids. My son stayed still during the haircut the whole time. The haircut is a great quality as well. Highly recommend! Cash only

My daughters haircut

I went to this salon to take my 2 daughters for a haircut. My little one who is only 2 got her first cut today which was fine. It was very little and you can't tell a difference. My older daughter who is 4.5 years old got a cut as well and it is the worst cut I've ever seen. The person that cut her hair was Jen. I did not notice how bad it was until I left. I did notice it was choppy in the salon but I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. I should have said something there because it's such a bad cut. The other woman (I did not catch her name) was super nice and friendly and blow dried her hair. The woman Jen that cut her hair was nice also although she just didn't give my daughter a good cut.

I feel bad writing this because I really wanted to like this place. They are a sweet, local spot, and very fairly priced. Immediately post cut, it was hard to tell what it would look like. But after being home and it drying properly did I notice how bad it was. I emphasized keeping it as long as a possible, and it wound up too short, which is fine. The problem is in both the front and back, it's uneven, choppy, and crooked. Other customers photos on Yelp look fine, so maybe it was just our luck.

We had a great experience! Booking the appointment was really easy and Jen even told me they had an earlier appointment that opened up which was great for us. We got a text the day of to confirm our appointment which was really nice. Johanna was great, she kept him distracted and put on a cartoon that was his favorite to watch. Between that and the car he didn't really move much. She did some test head touches to see how he would react first . I love the first hair cut certificate so I'll remember it forever and it has a piece of hair on it.

I have been on a Yelp hiatus for months. It has been a beautiful couple of months spending quality time with my little prince. One thing he got from his Mama is that long, strong hair. He was born with a full set of it. Well ladies and gentlemen, it was time for the little one to get his first haircut. Of course during these hard times you want a secure place the follows all the health protocols, as well as an environment that will make him feel comfortable. Kiddy Kutz delivers on so many levels. It provides the right environment to make the little ones comfortable..well I would say more so, distracted.. wink, wink.. so the ladies can do their thing. The owner was very courteous and addressed any concerns we had. She provided toys for him to play with, while she cut and styled his hair. As a parent, one gets those anxious thoughts on how he would handle his FIRST haircut. He took it like a champ with no care in the world. He was happy as can be....Yideee deee. With the objective complete, we were happy with the whole experience. We will definitely be coming back. I recommend to make an appointment a week or so in advance, as they are very busy.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would . Don't take your kid there they mess up my son haircut and now he looks horrible . Joanna gave my son a haircut it looks like she picked up a machete and chop his hair .it's uneven he looks horrible . I'm warning you don't take your kids there .I don't know where she got her license on a cereal box I have no idea but she's a joke as a hairstylist .

Great staff, affordable and professional services. My kids don't normally like their here being fussed with, but they stayed stI'll in their fun chairs and favorite shows. They have video games for older children too.

Baby's First Haircut

Ohhhhhh, this place was so great! We took our 16 month old there for his first haircut. He loved sitting in the car chair, and he giggled and smiled the whole time. Jen knows what she is doing. She is prepared with all sorts of music and shows and fun toys. On top of that, she gave our kid a FANTASTIC haircut. She patiently talked us through as we decided what we wanted. She maneuvered the clippers and scissors so carefully as our baby moved all about. And he ended up looking so good! She gave us a sweet little certificate at the end, saved a clip of his hair, and took great pics of our family at the end. Kiddy Kutz has earned our business forever

But it was my daughter's first haircut and it was far from a good experience.  Our stylist was the only one in the studio and was not warm off the bat. She didn't engage well with my daughter at all, especially for it being her first time. She seemed like someone that is used to doing older children's hair and was clearly nervous and not experienced with toddlers. When I gave instructions, they were not followed at all, even though I repeated myself several times. She completely ignored my requests to shorten her bangs and as a result cut her hair way shorter than I would've liked, and was just following her own agency.  She gave my girl an ipad without asking for my consent, which just made it worst. And the end result looked terrible, I wished we hadn't cut her hair-this was right before her big birthday party and a photoshoot we were going to have. With all that, there has been no response to my bad experience when I reached out on their website and on their prompted text, making it even worst. I would not recommend this salon for first time haircuts at all.

I specifically chose this salon because I thought she'd receive the same standard of haircut and salon experience an adult woman would get, not just a quick "kids' cut." But her stylist Maria chose to have a temper tantrum instead. We were 5 minutes late, and from the moment we met the stylist, Maria, her attitude was cold and unwelcoming. The front desk introduced us, but she barely spoke or acknowledged us. When I shared that this was my daughter's first visit to a big-girl salon, she just half smiled and walked away without saying anything so we followed her. during the hair wash, Maria had my daughter sit on a wobbly booster pillow on top of the chair without saying a word about what she needed to do. This is something you'd expect a stylist to explain when dealing with a child. My daughter just stood there, unsure, until I stepped in to guide her through it myself, while Maria walked away. After the wash, she brought my daughter back to the chair, hair dripping wet, again with the booster, and walked off without helping her get settled. I lifted her into the chair myself. I showed Maria a photo and video of the style my daughter wanted (long layers). She gave a quick, dismissive "fine" and got to work so fast I doubted she had really looked at them. The haircut itself took under 7 minutes. When I asked if she'd added enough layers, she said, "You'll see." She then blow-dried my daughter's hair for nearly 30 minutes, no styling, no heat protectant, just straight blow-drying without even asking if she wanted a style which is what we paid for. Then she removed the cape and began cleaning up, without showing us the haircut (another pretty standard thing). I went over and was looking at the cut while she again walked away, shaking her head. She barely added any layers but I was already expecting that and wasn't going to say anything to not spoil my child's experience any more than Maria already had. However I did spot one noticeably long section at the back of her hair and wanted her to fix it. I didn't know where she went so I had to go ask at the front desk. Then she reappeared. I asked her politely to cut the long strand. By this point she was even angrier and said, "That's how it's supposed to be." When I asked her to trim it, she said, "I can, but it's going to look ugly." Who says that while a child is in front of them? She eventually cut it straight across and said "there." I asked if she was going to blend it, she insisted it was already blended. I explained that she had just cut it blunt and needed to cut upwards for a natural blend -- a basic layering technique I know from over 15 years of working in a salon. She said "You could, but you don't have to." In theory you could do anything right? You could hire an unprofessional, unqualified hair stylist who has a bad attitude and ask her to cut children's hair. You could, but you DON'T have to. So I asked her to do cut it anyway. She did, then tossed out another curt "there," full of attitude and walked away. The front desk staff, who surely heard most of this, didn't even ask if the service was okay when we checked out. As clearly it was obvious nothing was Ok but no one can be bothered to be an adult these days. On the way home, my daughter told me she thought the stylist was "not nice at all" and that she had kept smiling at her because she felt so uncomfortable. It's one thing to have this level of unprofessionalism toward an adult, but toward a child? It's an embarrassment honestly.

She played for around 15 minutes before they called her to her yellow submarine themed chair complete with a steering wheel! Adriana was patient and friendly and made my daughter feel comfortable. They offer iPads but my kiddo did fine without it. They cut a couple of inches and dried it with a not too hot blow dryer. The whole process took less than 15 minutes. For $50, the first haircut does not come with a wash. The price seemed steep considering it was a very straightforward super quick haircut. They do give you a nice photo of your child plus a little baggie with a few pieces of their hair when you book the first haircut experience. We had hyped up this visit by telling my daughter that she'd get a balloon. I'd recommend not doing this as a tantrum ensued when we learned that they were out of balloons. It was a rough trip home. All in all, the haircut was quick and the actual cut was painless! I was debating giving 3 or 4 stars. I'd say 3.5 if I could. I don't think I'd return given that the cost was high for what it was.

It was about a 17-minute walk from where I was currently at, so I called to check availability before walking over. Dominique answered the phone and told me she was happy to take me in as soon as I arrived. I communicated what I wanted: to cut off at least 15 inches of hair for me to donate then just have her add layers so that my face would be framed nicely. I explained that I have naturally curly/wavy hair and that I don't want my hair shorter than my shoulders when curly. She listened intently and very clearly understood the assignment. I let her know that I didn't really have an "inspiration photo" for what I wanted my hair to look like, but she told me not to worry and I trusted her. Throughout the entire process, she communicated EVERYTHING to me! She knew I was nervous about having short hair again, so I truly appreciated her transparency with what she planned to do while cutting as it made me feel at ease. The outcome is PHENOMENAL! I LOVE my new haircut (and so does my husband)!!! When I left the salon, she had straightened it out and it looked beautiful. The next day I wore it natural and it looked just as amazing! I'm seriously so happy with how it turned out! Dominique is my new hairstylist moving whether she likes it or not! ;)
