My son was enrolled in this school for one year. It was strongly recommended to us based on the…read moreinvolvement of one founders of the school, who has since left. There has been a lot of turn-around at the school. They emphasize a three year cycle but can't seem to keep teachers for more than one year at the Kits location. The school itself is located in the basement of a church and is rather sparse, although all the Montessori equipment is there. There is a very very small park in the front which includes a rocky sandbox, one see-saw and a geodome. But no real parks nearby for the children to play after school, just a parking lot so most parents and children just go straight home. My son's teacher and the aids were wonderful. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the Principal of the school. There is a lack of effort to communicate with the parents and lack of effort to make you feel like part of the school community. There are no field trips or other outings. They strictly adhere to the Montessori principles and the 3 hour cycle, but other "real" AMI-Montessori also value the occasional fieldtrip or outing. My son didn't look forward to going to school, other than to see his friends. Unfortunately, this school is run primarily as a principal who seems more interested in the business and I did not feel like she cared much for the families that attend her school. It seemed like all parents questions were responded to with a condescending remark touting the virtues of the Montessori method. I consider myself supportive of the Montessori philosophy. The teachers and aides are wonderful but if the leadership is mediocre so too will be the school.

I did listen to their advice since I know they are very picky and very involved parents. I also looked around with other schools and we decided there. The teachers cannot be any better. They are very passionate and very keen on guiding the kids in proper Montessori way. The school holds 4-5 parent teacher info nights yearly and I can tell that school appreciates parents involvement by providing us a place to discuss questions and informing us about the school. All the parents are pretty close and we do stay after school (even though it's small playground or the parking lot) to chitchat. It might look shabby place to some people but the school does provide material that are Montessori appropriate and the great teachers make it wonderful place and experience for the kids there.

The thing I found most lacking however was communication with parents. We never knew what the kids were doing at school. No photos, no newsletters, email updates, no work is ever sent home, etc. As a parent I was disappointed, and the teachers were not open to feedback and very strict about their systems. Our new Montessori is a breath of fresh air and our child is more relaxed as well. LMM is a good school but just not the right fit for us.

Our daughter has flourished during her time there, and Little Mountain's program provides a great a great academic foundation balanced across math, the alphabet/phonetic reading, language (including French), and art. Their teaching is based in Montessori, however we have found their approach to be less strict than other preschools we considered. They have a great philosophy of enabling kids to be kids, while instilling the discipline and structure of a Montessori program. Every day our daughter runs right in at drop off, excited to see her friends and teachers, and then comes home afterwards with something fantastic she's learned while there. We are confident that our daughter will be so well set up for elementary school (and beyond!) after her time at Little Mountain!

My son adores them and talks about them like they are his friends. The program is incredible. They even did a home visit to get to get to know our family better before the first day. That set the tone for us and the school has exceeded our expectations in every way. There are requirements to attend - a full commitment to the program. I was looking for a true Montessori school for my son's most important developmental years. I wanted an authentic Montessori experience and that's what he is getting, and then some. With that comes the need to stick to my word and follow through on my family's commitment to my child completing Montessori at WMS through Kindergarten. And he will, and so will my daughter. I wouldn't have it any other way. And I expect the other families in my child's class to do the same. We are all in it together. Trying to leave early ruins it for all of us. As parents, if you sign up and take a coveted space, then at least follow through. Don't sign up, break your word and expect cake and flowers.

This program was no longer what I thought it was due to philosophical issues I had with teaching staff who often took a very one sided approach to matters. I also felt their philosophy of values in how they dealt with matters also impacted their teachings and emotional safety of children.

I was not only shocked with the statement but the way she brought this to my attention was very unprofessional and disrespectful. When I asked for examples as to why she thought this the only thing she could say was that he 'liked to line up his toys'. We pulled him from environment immediately as we were deeply worried about how little they knew about my very talkative and expressive son. Since then when chatting with other parents in the community I have respectfully shared (when asked) that it wasn't a right fit for us, but I have heard from over 8 different families that they have been told similar autistic diagnoses from Nicole. I only write this review in hopes that the next parent that is told this difficult news knows the school's backwards enthusiasm for diagnosising children and placing huge amounts of unnecessary stress on parents.

Talk to the owner of the daycare a few times before we meet, and it's a bit hectic because spots fill exceptionally fast here, its so close to Nelson Elementary. Prices were very reasonable for before and after school care (I paid twice as much in North Burnaby for for less), and pro-D days are covered (unless there are strike days... Don't get me started). The space is divided between school aged kids on one side, and the younger ones on the other, so the toys and care are different. Huge space, large fenced back play area, support for homework, open and frequent communication... I'm thrilled with this daycare and hope to use it for many years to come.

My child is only 19 month and she took the chance to let her discover and learn, without teaching her with patience. After circle time that teacher stood up walking with out care and bumped into my child and kicked her into a very sharp table corner, dented her forehead and my child started bleeding. The whole classroom wasn't protected, but right after this happened they started to put up all the protection for sharp corners......I was very upset and disappointed. The principal also called me after, but her phone call made me felt worse, and she said she was going to check back with me and I never received another phone call from her! If this system could let me choose no star, I wouldn't have given one!
