Talk to the owner of the daycare a few times before we meet, and it's a bit hectic because spots fill exceptionally fast here, its so close to Nelson Elementary. Prices were very reasonable for before and after school care (I paid twice as much in North Burnaby for for less), and pro-D days are covered (unless there are strike days... Don't get me started). The space is divided between school aged kids on one side, and the younger ones on the other, so the toys and care are different. Huge space, large fenced back play area, support for homework, open and frequent communication... I'm thrilled with this daycare and hope to use it for many years to come.

This is a daycare/child care consultation group I recently discovered at a parent drop-in group…read more They are in a quiet unassuming office in the office tower on Boundary/Kingsway on top of the Starbucks. They can assist with discussing and finding childcare options. They also have an excellent website letting you know about options in the area which are registered (and therefore have more training and checks provided by this group). One thing I didn't know till recently was that they have a library located inside the that has a variety of toys, books, puzzles and musical instruments. They also have tons of activity bags and themed felt packages. It's a fantastic resource and there is a table area with chairs to read with your child (but better if they are toddlers and up). For parents/early childhood educators there are books on child development also available. Lots of great ideas can be found for educating your child!

I have heard call heard a couple of times as I pass by to drop off my child through out the day. I hope that someone will speak to this lady because that is a very harsh thing she is doing to the babies.

I was on their waitlist for almost two years, having paid their $2375 deposit for my infant…read more When I decided that I wouldn't require their services even if I got a spot, I cancelled the waitlist spot and requested my deposit back, as per their guidelines. They asked me to wait 6-8 weeks for the cheque. I did, then contacted them (also as per their instructions). The cheque was apparently awaiting a signature in their Ontario office and would be mailed at the END of week 8. As of posting still have not recieved it. You be the judge of whether or not a company that behaves in such a cavalier manner with their clients' resources is worth doing business with.

This paly oriented preschool is just amazing, the teachers are super lovely and very engaged. I really appreciate the outstanding communication the teachers provide to us parents, anything and everything gets announced and shared ahead of time or if something comes up (positive or challenging) with our little ones, it will be discussed right away with us parents. What I personally extremely value is that this preschool takes our little ones outside to nearby playgrounds and parks every day, shine or rain, for a good amount of time. Teacher Robb made our eldest, and us, feel comfortable leaving him for the first time. Our son took a few days to get adjusted, then didn't want to leave. The 3.5 hour duration and choice between am or pm classes are such a benefit. Our daughter attended a year later and loved teacher Christa. Our youngest is now in his final year of preschool and he loves Larry and Nicole (and Christa too!). The preschool space is bright and fun, teachers take the kids to the nearby parks and/or senior centre everyday and our kids always tell us how much they enjoy/ed the school. The teachers support each child's development, offer to assist with any learning requests and instil the confidence and love of school which led to our older 2 thriving in private school kindergarten. We have recommended Extra Steps to numerous families over the years, even those who have been hesitant due to poor experiences at other schools, and they have all been so grateful for sharing this wonderful preschool with them. Kids are all treated with kindness and respect, which allows for personal development. As our time with Extra Steps will end at the close of this year, we wish to express our appreciation to the teachers for the love and support our kids have enjoyed- we really can't recommend this preschool enough. Larry and Nicole also run the most fabulous outdoor program on Saturdays, which our youngest loves and will continue to do next year.

It was our first experience with a home-based child care facility and all my expectations were exceeded. The space is well organized and well maintained. The children are offered two daily snacks which are healthy and nutritious and bring their own lunches. They have a great backyard space to spend lots of outdoor time. My daughter was potty trained with the help of the kind and attentive owner and her Spanish comprehension just blossomed. I would wholeheartedly recommend Los Patitos to any parent.

We were nervous about choosing a licensed family daycare, but were having trouble getting into the public daycares. Los Patitos was the first daycare where we could actually imagine leaving our child 5 days a week and feel confident that she would be well cared for. Out instinct about this daycare has proven to be correct and our daughter has thrived during her time at Los Patitos. The children do a variety of activities every day, learning about nature, art, numbers, etc. The daycare is bilingual so the children do activities during the day in both English and Spanish. While we have been impressed with the educational aspect of this daycare, my husband and I are most pleased with the care and warmth our daughter receives from the woman who owns the daycare and her employees. They genuinely care for the health, education and emotional well being of the children in their care. Highly recommended!

Our daughter attended YMCA Little Beach between 18-38 months (1 teacher to 4 children, max 12…read morechildren), and later on moved upstairs to YMCA Beach to the 3-5 program (1 teacher to 8 children, max 24 children). Both groups use the same philosophy, play to learn. The daycares are open 7:30 AM to 6 PM. Every morning there would be different 3-4 play areas for the children to explore and ease the transition from the parent's arms to the teacher (painting, playdough, crafts, water, etc.). The children learn songs, numbers, and alphabet. Our daughter could sing ABCs by the age of 3 and count till 10. I like that they divide the children into groups, one teacher takes the children to play outside, one teacher is painting inside, etc.. This allows more 1:1 attention vs 3-4 teachers and 24 children in the same room. When the children were transitioning from downstairs to upstairs, there was a period of time when they were taken upstairs to play by one of the teachers to help them to get to know the environment. During the transition, some teachers were working upstairs part-time. The teachers are caring and affectionate. Children are picked up if they cry or are sad. There's plenty of space to run around inside and outside. Our daughter loved going there and built friendships with the other children.
