I am writing this review as a warning to other parents about The Learning Station. My son attended…read morethis daycare, and over time, he became increasingly distressed at drop-off--kicking, screaming, and refusing to go in. At first, I thought it was just separation anxiety, but then I noticed a clear pattern--his reaction escalated whenever a specific male staff member entered the room. The day he saw this man and immediately broke down sobbing was the day I knew I couldn't ignore my instincts any longer. I brought my concerns to the daycare, and while they listened, they assured me they had seen no red flags. I expected this response, but as a parent, my priority is my child's safety. I refuse to take chances when my child is showing me, in the only way he knows how, that something is deeply wrong. So I pulled him out immediately--better safe than sorry. Beyond my personal experience, I strongly believe that a male staff member should not be assigned to classrooms with 2-3-year-olds who are just developing communication skills. Why not place him with older children who can express themselves better? This man is changing the diapers of little girls and boys and assisting with potty training. I'm not sure why the daycare believes this is a good idea, but I personally wasn't willing to risk my child's well-being. I am sharing this because I would want another parent to do the same for me. If your child is showing signs of distress at daycare, trust your gut. No one will advocate for your child like you will.

There are no cameras in the classrooms and the facility is poorly kept up as far as cleanliness. There are also no real requirements other than the minimum state education requirements for "teachers" which is GED and one class from a local technical school. If you're looking for a structured, clean environment with quality education for your child, you won't find it here. The website is extremely misleading, unfortunately.

As a mother who is heavily involved in my daughter's activities and education, the experiences both…read moreshe and I endured at Gateway Academy are quite disappointing and frustrating. My daughter has been going to this school since July 2010. When she started she was 4 years old and ready to learn and explore with the Gateway learning team. She was pleased and happy to go to school until she noticed they did not include her in the picture taking process at the school functions. As a new student she immediately felt left out and all the assistant director had to say was "I'm sorry, I do apologize". No resolution was ever made on the other end. To a little one, and for me, that was not enough. So I took a picture of my own child and ask for it to be posted with the rest of the kids. As time went on she met friends and became close to her teacher. On the other hand due to her class size and inexperienced teachers and teacher assistants, she was not given the proper attention needed. Nevertheless, my daughter is quite advanced for her age, hence the reason for her being the only 4 year old in a class full of 5 year old children. Her teacher neglected to pay attention to her speedy learning style and writing techniques; so when or if my daughter made a mistake, it was not fixed until I brought it to their attention. That was a big problem because she was being taught how to do things differently at home than at school. Overall the staff and I were not on the same page. The health factors of my child were overlooked as well. Since she has asthma, it is critical to pay close attention to her well -being and that did not happen. The final boiling point was when I picked her up to find her shoes on the wrong feet (again) and finding tons of sand in her hair. The teacher who was supposed to be watching her had no clue as to why this happened and gave no explanation for this. That showed me that my child was not properly supervised and that anything could happen to her at any given time. The director's assistant and my daughter's primary teacher was also informed and gave no logical explanation for this situation. The teachers at Gateway Academy are not competent enough to handle or supervise the children at their facility. They are not familiar with proper protocol for pre-k incidents or daily reports. I was so frustrated with this school and the lack of knowledge the teacher had in reference to my child that I immediately pulled her out. I highly recommend that any parent looking into this school think twice. Signed, Dissatisfied Parent
