Kickapoo is amazing! We have a very spoiled 7 year old dog. We get the luxury suite for her. We got a message that she wasn't doing well in doggy day camp. I called and we were able to adjust her package so that she could get more personal attention. It is so nice to be able to go away and not have to worry about her. This business is great place to board your dogs. I have used in the past but will not be returning due to the checkin and checkout time slots. When they went to the hotel like times and will allow for in and out at others but want to charge additional $25.00 to drop off or pick up is unacceptable to me. I haven't actually used this resort yet, but their customer service is phenomenal. We were planning on leaving our senior dog here and had to cancel the day we were going to drop him off. No cancelation fees and they were super accommodating to my picky husband when he went out to view the ranch. He's extremely picky and found this place to be worthy of his approval. My husband and I cannot recommend this place enough. We kept my dog here over our honeymoon for 2 weeks, so he was trained and boarded. The ranch is beautiful, has a ton of space, has a pond, lots of room for the dogs to run, and is very clean and well kept. When we dropped our dog off, Mike personally walked us throughout everything to make us feel comfortable while we were far away. He kept us updated about our dog, Bentley, and we felt good knowing he was doing well. Our dog loved Kickapoo and had a great rapport with Mike when we picked him up to learn about his training. At the end of the training, Mike also walks you through what he teaches your dog so you feel comfortable using the commands as well. He gave us personal attention and we felt like the money we paid was WELL worth the service we received. You also get a collar and leash included in your cost. We constantly get compliments on how well trained our dog is, and we always say that we are SO GLAD we chose to send Bentley to Kickapoo. My dog went for his very first day of doggie daycare , he's never been boarded anywhere but with family & friends. He's a 4yr old lab that lost his companion back in December so we decided to let him socialize once & while with others. Especially knowing we have a 7 day trip out of the country in July so we wanted find somewhere he'd be comfortable , safe & entertained while we are gone. He generally plays well with other animals so figured it'd go well! It absolutely did!! Mary at the front desk took care of all my questions at the first phone call & was attentive. My mother who travels a lot has been looking for a boarding facility to keep her 25lb dog. I decided to give this place a call, despite the many negative reviews stating that the employees are rude and unprofessional. I would like to confirm that this is true. The woman answering the phones is the rudest person I have ever come in contact with. If Kickapoo Ranch has a history of treating people this way, I can only imagine how they treat animals. :( I cannot figure out how to comment on the employee of Kickapoo Ranch's response to this review. Due to some family situations, we had to take an emergency trip out of the country. I contacted Kickapoo Ranch in hopes that they would be able to board my dog, Nakia. They were extremely welcoming and understanding of the situation. Nakia is a timid dog by nature, and we've been working on building her confidence. When I saw how comfortable she was upon entering the lobby, I knew I made the right choice. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The facility is super clean and spacious with reasonable pricing. They did an excellent job taking care of Nakia. Words aren't enough to describe how grateful I am! I sold a home for an elderly couple that couldn't take their dog with them when they moved. The poor thing had been so neglected because the owners had been in and out of hospital for six months. He smelled horrible and hair was matted to the root. When we picked him up I didn't even recognize him. They did a fantastic job and were so nice. I highly recommend them. Kickapoo Ranch was an excellent experience for my two dogs and my parents dog as well. It was our first time at the resort and we were very pleased at the beautiful facility and accommodations for our 3 sweet pups. Our dogs are small to medium size rescues (mixed breeds) and not sporting or hunting dogs, but they seemed to love the beautiful grass areas and walks in the surroundings. When we picked them up after 7 days of boarding, they were sporting their new "camp" bandannas and we were given an adorable report card letting us know about their stay. Prior to the stay, we were asked to submit appropriate vaccine and health records. I greatly appreciate knowing Kickapoo Ranch takes our pets health seriously and would not carelessly accept pets without proper vet care. Despite the extra driving distance from our homes, the facilities, dog to staff ratio, 5 walks/day and overall experience made the 7 day boarding stay easier on both pups and pup parents and was well worth the extra mileage! read more

When trying to explain that my puppy would have all her shots with proof by the time she boarded he chose to educate me on his opinion of vaccination validity. I explained that I've worked in a vet clinic for 10+ years and I have knowledge of vaccine protocal, he then stated his lack of care and urged me to be "smarter" in the future. I have requested the training logs and methods for two of our dogs, both trained at Kickapoo. Mike acknowledged the "tremendous" amount of "juice" = ELECTRIC SHOCK he had to use on one of the two dogs to prevent he from bolting. The woman who runs the desk and answers phones should not be running the desk, answering phones (no customer engagement skills). I have a business. Its customer service and equipping my clients w success. She was very rude to me. Laughed at me for bringing my dogs' food. She made it easy for me to say "not coming back." It was expensive to board but I'd have boarded my Boykins, again, had she straightened up that snideness. I am a business advisor, career advisor, MBA w statistics&marketing concentrations, project management licenses. Five years ago, I knew, sadly, this beautiful facility would close. We've sent our lab Jake to Kickapoo since he was four months old. Let me just say this. I love my dog and would never allow him to be kept somewhere that didn't care for him the right way. Here is what I see, 1. Jake literally runs in the door at Kickapoo because he loves being there. 2. When he come home he's tired and a couple of pounds lighter because of all the play and pond time 3. Just picked up our 3 large dogs from Kickapoo which has new owners. Our pups love this place - lots of exercise in the beautiful countryside of Waller. Our pups were meticulously clean and happy on pick up. Absolutely disgusted with the owners. Paid almost $800 for my two dogs to stay four nights here at Kickapoo. My dogs were in the luxury suites with the indulgence package. One of the only things I did not get was a bath or grooming package. When I picked up my 9 pound Maltipoo, there was poop caked all on his rear end and body. When my mom called and calmly expressed her concern, the woman who answered insured her that the owner would be calling her back. When he did call back, he promptly told my mom that he had a complaint- he did NOT appreciate her calling his employee's and complaining and that we should have purchased grooming. When my mom explained that even though we did not purchase grooming, that we shouldn't have had to for someone to take off 3 quarter sized dry pieces of poop on his rear end. The owner then told my mother that they weren't in the business of "wiping dog's asses". He then hung up on her. I have attached a picture of what I came home to. I had to cut everything out of his hair. It was stuck to his skin and his anus was red, sensitive, and inflamed. It had to have been there the whole time. I'm sure everyone would have been disappointed seeing their dog like this after almost $800. read more

Mike and Kari run a seamless professional business from the facilities, care , and training. Mike made it easy for us to continue the training at home and still enjoy our playful, cuddly puppy. We look forward to our walks and love how much our dog enjoys the walks, while easily obeying her learned commands. We have received numerous complements from strangers regarding our dog's behavior off leash. When we picked up our dog from Kickapoo she looked and smelled amazing. I'm not sure what they use to groom the dogs, but her coat had never looked better. Would give them 0 Stars! Our dog was boarded here the week of Christmas last year. He contracted a skin eating infection and almost died! The bacteria got inside of him through a front paw, which he cut on something while at this place, and we almost had to amputate the whole leg. The owners had the nerve to tell us that we took him to a low-cost vet and that is why the infection got so bad. Crossroads Animal Clinic is not a low cost or unskilled veterinary clinic. In fact, 2 different vets said that this infection got worse due to the care that Mike & Keri, the owners of Kickapoo, gave our dog. We were out of state and got back as fast as we could on Christmas Day, only to be told we couldn't get our very ill dog until December 27th, when they open. We were very upset! Why wouldn't you release a sick dog?! Probably because they had something to hide. we received many accusations and threats from this place until I finally told them to speak to my lawyer if they had any further communication. Our dog has always been healthy and was current on all vaccinations. After months of treatment, hospitalization, thousands of dollars and heartache, our dog is OK! There are plenty of other options - not worth the risk! read more

This was my family's first experience with Kickapoo Ranch. On a discerning friend's recommendation my husband and I took our two Rhodesian Ridgebacks there to be pampered and cared for while we traveled out of the country. Kickapoo Ranch did a complete intake on both of our dogs to include a review of health records, weights, pictures, and preferences. Upon arrival, everything was ready for our dogs with a seamless handoff of care. The facilities were impressive-pristine kennels, a lake, many acres of land, and lots of areas to play and exercise, plus so many amenities for every dog's needs. Our dogs enjoyed pampered pet sessions, nature walks, plus the very best in monitoring and safety. At our request, our dogs were able to have private accomodations but had play time together. We called several times to check on the boys, and got a complete report each time. We picked our dogs up, groomed and ready at the appointed time. They looked great and were very happy, and we even got a "report card" for their stay highlighting their activities and health. Kari is fantastic, and you can tell she loves her work, because she is concerned with each dog and wants owners to be at ease when leaving pets in their care. She took us on a complete tour of the facilities and we were immediately impressed with how clean and well-maintained every inch of the place was. Mike really knows what his business, and is remarkable professional. He provided some useful educational feedback when we picked up the boys, and we'll always be grateful for him taking the time to talk with us about our dogs. I give this place my highest recommendation. Drop your dog(s) off knowing that he will be treated like royalty while you are gone. read more

If you care about your pets, do not bring them to Kickapoo Ranch Resort. We signed up our 8 month old Boxer puppies for lodge and train. The staff was very unorganized, never sent us our requested updates and when we picked them up, my puppies were obviously mistreated. They had the pick-up date wrong too. The head trainer Chris didn't know Betty's name. He stumbled on her name, "Betty, right?" He was supposed to train them for 2 weeks and didn't know her name?! He didn't know which e-collar belonged to which dog. When he brought out Bruce to show us what he learned, Bruce was scared, shaking, red eyes and coughing. He asked one of the female staff members when he started to cough, and she was grinning and said, 'I don't know, maybe yesterday." We were upset and worried at that point. The puppies were supposed to be in a separate room during their stay as promised at booking. They were kenneled on the same side as the other dogs in open link cages like puppy jail. The staff didn't care and the trainer got defensive. After we got our other dog, my husband left the building and I stayed in to pay and gather the rest of our belongings. I had to keep asking the staff to get the rest of my belongings. None of them knew where all of our things were. Unorganized! The general manger didn't know how much the agreed upon price for the Lodge and Stay was. I had to tell him. He offered me a 12% off discount for our troubles. On my way out, the trainer said, 'well, I guess I am getting a bad review". Not "I hope Bruce is ok. Sorry." Nothing! Bruce was violently coughing and we rushed him to the vet. He had Kennel Cough and passed it on to Betty. It's been a terrifying experience because we know they were not properly trained and taken care of like we thought they would for 15 days and a lot of money. Both Betty and Bruce lost weight. 4 - 6 lbs. Betty puts her ears back when we call her and Bruce can't follow any commands from training. This facility is a huge façade. I sent communication requests while we were on vacation through email and messenger. After 2 days of waiting, I was lucky to get a response from the staff or trainer. I do not recommend this place unless you don't care about your pets. read more

Just returned from week long vacation and boarded our two beloved dogs for the first time with Kickapoo--- I couldn't be happier with the whole experience working with them.. from the first phone call (great communication via both phone and email) to the time we picked up our (happy as ever, not frazzled!) pups to bring home-- both my boyfriend and I felt like they were in excellent hands. From the second I talked to Kari I could tell she was a true dog lover, just like us! I loved how many amenities were offered...was able to provide him more attention, play, swimming & time with other dogs than we ever could. I always had good things to say about this boarding facility. However this time when i picked up my dogs our male had an abrasion on his back foot they alerted us to. When we got home we realized he also had abrasions under both front legs, both on he legs and the chest. I sent pics and Mike called me back and told me they were old wounds and could not have happened there as the dog was only there 4 days. I pointed out our dog was there for 8 days which seemed a surprise to him. Mike told me it was probably our harness which cannot be because our harness does not touch that area of the dog. All in all mike was exceptionally rude and i will not be taking the dogs back there. read more

I agree with the owners that this resort is like Disneyland for dogs. Rosie came to us after the passing of my father. Due to my father's decline, Rosie needed training and weight management. She thrived at Kickapoo under the guidance of Mike and the loving eye of Kari. She dropped 15 pounds and had a blast in the ponds and at day camp with the other dog guests. The facilities are amazing. Two huge ponds and acres of natural places for walks. I love the well organized outdoor runs so dogs can relieve themselves and indoor kennels are air conditioned with elevated beds. I encourage you to go for a visit to this facility to see it yourself. For older dogs, the luxury kennels would be great. But Rosie loved the ranch kennels In addition, this facility is the cleanest I have ever been in my 30 plus years of owning a dog as an adult. We heard about Kickapoo Pet Ranch from a friend who had taken a very challenging, aggressive, adopted dog to them and had been very pleased, so we decided to try taking our 65 lb. male sharpei/lab mix, Tony, to them for training. He's a very sweet dog but was totally unmanageable in several areas - especially on walks, which was out main concern. My wife could walk our other two dogs, but not Tony. He pulled so hard when walking that he really could have and has pulled her off her feet, especially if a cat or another dog appeared. We'd had other trainers work with him to very little result, other than his learning some basic commands like "sit." After an initial visit we left him at Kickapoo with Mike and Kari for two weeks, and we cannot say enough about what a different dog he was when we picked him up. He will now walk off leash and is so well behaved it's amazing. And when I say he's "different" I mean that in the best way. We had concerns as to whether the training would change his personality or his "Spirit" along with the change in obedience, and are happy to report that around the house, and in playing with our other dogs and cats, he is just as playful, fun and enthusiastic as ever. But meanwhile, when he's out on his walks or practicing his behavior, THAT'S when he is a different dog. His attention is on us at all times, and he does just as asked. My wife says he even seems more mature (He just had his third birthday the week he went in for training.). We highly recommend Kickapoo Pet Ranch for any dog training needs! read more

Deciding to enroll our two year old Weimaraner Kane for a solid month of board & train was the absolute best decision we ever made. Mike did a tremendous job not only training Kane, but training us as well. Our daily walks off leash are so pleasant. I am just amazed at how obedient he became in such a short time. We've been sending our Jack Russell Terriers to Mike & Kari at Kickapoo Ranch for five years, and I can honestly say that we wouldn't leave them anywhere else. This place is fantastic; it's not cheap, but you get what you pay for - and my terriers love it. Kickapoo is clean beyond belief - Mike is absolutely obsessed with cleanliness and the health of the pets Kickapoo takes care of - my Jacks always come home and are rather let down to get back to their regular lives. I was just looking for the Kickapoo Facebook page when I came across these reviews and noticed the two negative reviews and must throw in my 2 cents. THERE IS NOT A BETTER PLACE TO LEAVE YOUR PET. We leave our guy with Mike and Kari twice a year for a total of 3 to 4 weeks and know that while we are away having fun our dog is at Kickapoo having a great time as well. Whenever we pull up to Kickapoo Ranch our dog gets excited as all heck because he just loves being there. We know how well he is cared for while we are away and look forward to seeing pictures of him on Facebook. We usually call in once or twice while we are gone and Mike gives us a report on what or guy has been doing. In November 2012 we boarded our 5 dogs with Kickapoo for 10 days and were fairly pleased. We again in September 2013 boarded them for a long weekend. We have 4 longhair Dachshunds and one Doberman. Since the Dachshunds are boarded together we pay extra for nature walks for the Doberman. On one of his nature walks Mike was training a male lab off leash. the dog saw my male Doberman and ran over to him and attacked him causing a deep puncture wound in his neck. This happened early in the board and even though I called every day to check on them it was never mentioned. After returning home I took him to my vet and it required stitches. They tried to treat it themselves, never informed us, NEVER offered to refund any part of the boarding fees not even the nature walks that injured him. He now has a small scar on his neck and we never heard from them again. Guess it's a good thing we aren't the suing kind of people. I would NEVER EVER board my dogs there again! Rebecca Bass read more
