Dear 106.9,
For the love of all that is holy in this universe, please, please, please fire your program director (or whoever decides your playlist) and hire me. I have no experience in radio, but I LOVE music and hold it very near to my heart. Music, to me, is one of the highest art forms and we all have our personal soundtracks........songs that were there for our first crushes, first dances, first concerts, the highs, the lows....all of it. Don't get me wrong, I know people who don't love music and I don't look down on them for that-everybody got their something, right? But dammit, man, if you're going to work at a radio station, should you BE one of those people who don't love music? NO! Who the bloody hell decides your playlist? The same jackass responsible for that disastrous "Reunion" that was on Fox awhile back?
I actually remember the 80s. I wore legwarmers over my Jordache jeans, I used more hairspray than should legally be allowed, and Molly Ringwald was my personal hero. I also remember that Pat Benatar had more than one Top 40 hit, as did Joan Jett, The Eurythmics, and Rick Springfield; you apparently, do not. How about some of the lesser known yet still popular acts like Rockwell or Book of Love? They were there too, they were awesome, yet you don't even acknowledge their existence. And even though they didn't get huge airplay on American radios back in the day, why not play some Depeche Mode (besides "People Are People" and "Personal Jesus"), The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen, or Dead Kennedys? I know, I know, if I want Front 242 or Skinny Puppy, I have to go over to Rice University's station and wait for that one dude's one-hour show. But really, if I worked for you and decided your playlist, I would include all of that and more. By "more" I literally mean "more", not crap from the 70s (93.7 and 107.5 take care of that) or 90s (that's what 96.5 is for).
I gotta be frank, I've been listening to Jack FM a lot. They play a little of everything, just like they promise to, including the aforementioned Rockwell and even Firehouse's "Don't Treat Me Bad" (pop metal that even this Cure-loving 80s alternachick could enjoy). You promise to play the 80s, but you don't. Not really. The 80s hold a lot of good memories for me and my fellow Gen X-ers. I just want to see them done justice, musically speaking.
I am appealing to someone, anyone, at 106.9-help me get my foot in the door and I won't disappoint!
Sincerely,
Angela
