Thursday night he called me shortly after midnight in agonizing pain. He hurt his back and ended up on the floor and couldn't get up. I rushed over to his house to help. I could barely move him without him hollering in severe pain. Out of all the dozens of hospital visits over the years with him, I never had to call an ambulance until then. The EMT's were great and got him to the hospital right away. I had them go St. Martin Hospital because it was the quickest one to get to. It was the worse mistake I ever made. After the ambulance left with him, I ran his dog to my house and got dressed so I could get to the hospital. Before I knew it, he was calling me to go pick him up. I thought wow how did they take care of him that quick. I thought it was because he arrived there by an ambulance. I asked how he got finished so quickly and what the X-ray showed. He then told me how horrible he was treated by the staff in the back with a crackle in his voice. He said it was like he had said something horrible to them and he didn't so he didn't understand why they were so terrible to him. Someone goes in by ambulance and without even so much as an X-ray and steroid shot, is beyond me. If they would've read his medical history they would've gave him nausea meds before they did anything to him. Instead, he was calling me to say that they gave him pain meds and he was about to throw up. I said get someone to help you. His reply was, I don't see anyone and they wouldn't help if he did. It took him a while to get his bag off of the wheelchair, they just put it hanging on the arm of it. He has Gastroperisis and must be given nausea meds before giving him anything. Also, it can be dangerous for him in ER waiting areas. He has SAD and does IVIG infusions every month so he doesn't get sick from germs. After telling me everything that happened, I couldn't get there fast enough! Once I got there of course I was furious! I proceeded to ask why he was treated so poorly and why he was left alone and where his discharge paper was so I could see what it said. The first nurse said she gave it to him already and refused to reprint it. I asked to speak to the doctor. He didn't bother coming out to answer my questions. Instead, the nurses came out and treated me the same way. One was way worse than the other out of the two. The first one Trayce was rude and refused to get the paper with care directions. The second one came out SARAH, was absolutely horrible. I can't describe in enough words how ugly she was to us. It reminded me of those horrible nursing homes you hear about on the news when a caregiver was arrested for elderly abuse. It gives the good places a bad name. It was traumatic for both me and my son. After experiencing the horrible treatment she was given me I realized there was no exaggeration from what my son said. I knew at that point I was waisting my time there. I asked if they could at least help me get him in my car. After all, I had to call an ambulance to get him there because he couldn't walk nor could I get him off the floor. As the nurse pushed him out to get him in my car, I kept asking her questions that I wasn't getting answers to. First, about how he wasn't given the proper care he needed, why they didn't do x-rays at a minimum, why they just left him out in the waiting room alone when he wasn't capable of getting up on his own. How it took him so long to try to get his bag onto his lap to get his own nausea medication since they gave him none. He's prescribed it every month for his condition. At one point, I had enough. I was so upset at how she was manhandling him to get in my car while, he was begging her to let him slow down. I went to my drivers side to grab my phone to record it all. I recorded this for multiple reasons. They knew I was upset at the treatment he received. She kept trying to tell me he was good enough to be released when I kept saying he couldn't even walk on his own. She then started saying that he was able to do things like get up on his own, bend over and pick his bag when I knew that wasn't the case at all!! The reason I knew was because I was on the phone with him the entire time I was on the way there so he didn't feel so helpless. If they watched their security cameras in the lobby, you could see the whole thing. After she realized I was recording she stopped and left him there so she could get out of the cameras range so you couldn't see her face and how he was being treated. After that, I went around to help him get in the car. I went back in one more time to request another copy of his discharge paperwork and the nurse once again refused to print me a copy. I will NEVER go back to that horrible place. And out of all the times we have taken my son to an emergency room I have never wrote a review before until now.
