Bad spot. The lady messed up me and my moms order completely. Didn't clarify anything and was insanely rude. Horrible experience.

Good food. Decent service. Enjoy the choice of chicken or Taco Bell food. The extra crunchy chicken is the best.

She was excited to see me attempt the burger challenge. The restaurant was having a "Tap Takeover" from a local brewery. However, I was gracious they allowed me to still attempt the challenge during this event. Everything about this challenge was awesome. The burgers were cooked perfectly and were still juicy inside. The homemade coleslaw was delicious. The restaurant also makes their own beer-battered fries in house. If I ever find myself in Yankton again, I'll stop on by!

Which is exactly how we wound up in Yankton. My husband wanted to fly his drone near the Missouri River, and after wandering around sightseeing for awhile, we started looking up local places to eat and decided to try one of the more highly rated bar-and-grills in the area. Now, I always feel the need to explain something when I review places like this: A bar-and-grill is not competing against fine dining restaurants in my mind. Those are entirely different categories with completely different expectations. When I visit an upscale steakhouse, I expect deeply developed flavor, precision cooking, layered seasoning, exceptional cuts of meat, elevated presentation, and all the little refinements that come with fine dining. But when I walk into a neighborhood bar-and-grill after a road trip, with sports playing on televisions and locals relaxing over burgers and beer, my expectations shift accordingly. At that point I am looking for: comfort food, good atmosphere, friendly service, decent preparation, and whether I leave feeling relaxed and satisfied. So within that context, RB Beers & Burgers honestly did a fairly good job. My husband and I both enjoyed our steaks overall. They could have used a bit more seasoning and ours leaned somewhat overcooked compared to our preferred doneness, but the meal itself was still satisfying enough for the setting and atmosphere. As usual, we wound up sampling each other's food throughout dinner because after all these years our meals tend to become shared community property somewhere around the second or third bite. The dessert was enjoyable too and ended the meal nicely. The only item that really missed the mark for us was the wings. Unfortunately they arrived a bit too dry and seemed noticeably light on sauce, which left them lacking the rich, messy satisfaction good wings are supposed to have. Still, overall, I cannot honestly say we had a bad experience here. Quite the opposite. The restaurant had a comfortable local atmosphere, the food was decent overall, and I can absolutely understand why the locals speak positively about the place. Not every meal needs to be some grand culinary revelation. Sometimes you simply want a comfortable place to relax after a day wandering around river towns while your husband happily launches drones into the sky like an overgrown kid with expensive toys. And for that sort of evening, RB Beers & Burgers worked out just fine.

Their well whiskey was well enough, at least once it was (very) well-watered. They had some beers, bottled and by draught. It appears that, at least sometimes, they may have had food; certainly they had the chafing-dishes to keep something warm. There was music. It was oddly bright inside, but incandescent, and not the cool, crisp neon of their marquis. And for a minute it was damn packed with people. All summed, I imagine O'Malley's to be a hopping little dive, even outside of the starry hustle and bustle of River Boat Days; and, while it won't explode your perceptions like those River Boat Days fireworks over the Missouri, it's not a bad little spot to drop by for a couple cheap ones (especially if Ben's is blowing up down the way). Just let the lovely neon be your personal, pulsating Sacagawea.
