Carpe Diem is a one starred Michelin restaurant at the end of the pedestrian zone, near the church…read moreand parking lot. From the outside, it looks like a typical bar and patio setup. Tucked away inside and upstairs is their fine dining area. I had the "Salzburg" menu for lunch, since I was stuck in traffic and arrived after the cutoff time for the larger "Carpe Diem" menu. The menu says it is for 2 people, but they will make it for 1 person as well. At the time, I was a little bummed because I wanted more food, but I am glad it turned out that way because I was stuffed. Started out with two amuse bouche items, one with duck, and one with scallops with a mango maracuna (passion fruit/lilikoi) sauce. The scallops paired VERY nicely with the sauce, as I love both mangoes and passion fruit. Next, was the goose liver with kumquat and Brazil nuts. The goose liver was cold/frozen and shaped into small ice cream like scoops and came out with some shave ice type flavors. It made it really easy to eat, but also had to eat it sort of quickly so the shave ice didn't just melt. The candied kumquat skin added a nice tartness to the goose liver. Third, was the black cod, coconut miso, tamarillo, and green asparagus. This was my favorite dish of the set. I had never heard of tamarillo before, but it tasted like papaya. After I looked it up, it is supposed to taste like a mix of passion fruit and tomatoes. Either way, the coconut miso had just enough flavor to complement the fish, but not overpower it. The final dish (before dessert) was veal, cream of spinach, mushrooms and blueberry. I was unsure of what to expect before it arrived, but worked nicely with the tender veal. For dessert, was chocolate, banana, and passion fruit. On the hot day that I dined here, it was perfect to cool off before I headed back out on the road. To top it off, they gave me two chocolate balls to take to go! I am glad that I ended arriving a bit late because I was stuffed. Next time I go to Salzburg, I will make sure to have the "Carpe Diem" menu for dinner and arrive hungry!

I really feel this place has potential to be really good. We had two bbq platters, then one for one…read moreperson and the two person one. When it comes to portions, they nailed it. Saying the portion is huge is an understatement. The problem here is the quality and taste of the food. Half of the food was great, the other half bad. Ribs were soft and flavorful, but the steak was bland. Pulled port was fresh and juicy, but the pastrami brisket was overcooked and meh. Curly fries delicious, regular ones hard and overcooked. The cole slaw was absolutely horrible. The burger was ok, not bad but not great. The strawberry cheese was delicious but not true American cheesecake. I have no idea how they made half of everything great and the other have bad. As for service, the waiter was friendly but food took a bit to come out even though when we arrived there were only a few people there. It did get busy later on. If they fixed their consistency on food quality, this would be a legit good place to get American inspired BBQ.

First of all the staff are very welcoming and friendly. They are attentive and professional. The atmosphere in the diner is lively as you would expect from an American diner, and although I've never been to a diner in America, it is everything that I would expect. From their music, to the uniforms the staff ware, culminating in the food. The prices are reasonable, and the quality of the food in my opinion is outstanding. I have been to a lot of burger restaurants, and establishments claiming to be diners, however this restaurant has to be the most authentic I have visited in all of my time in Germany. It is for the reasons above that I would totally recommend this diner if ever you happen to be in this area. Assistant manager is an awesome guy.
