Jesus. 9:00 on a Saturday night, no one in line, still took twenty minutes to get food. Miserable experience.

I ordered the 6 piece with crinkle fries and slaw and a 32 oz. Drink. $19 for this. A little expensive on my opinion. The tenders were not big, they were a little below average, had a bland taste, very tender, juicy but needed spice. I did like the southwest sauce that came with it. Slaw was ok, nothing to brag about. The crinkle fries were dry and thin cut, hard and crispy. Everything was hot and fresh. Would I eat here again. Uhhhh, maybe. I wasn't overly impressed.

La Esperanza - Not a great photo, but I thought of it after I started. Ceviche tostada, a couple of tacos.

First, I thought I had reviewed them already-- so if I do two, that's why…read more I'm giving this 5 stars relating it to other SIMILAR places-- that is, Mexican restaurants within a grocery store--- i.e. more limited menu (although their's is pretty broad), not full bar-service (but they have beer), and not fancy. For what it is-- it is really scrumptious. I had a few tacos, a ceviche tostada and a beer. BIG lunch-- I took one taco home. All the items were really chock-ful of meat. The carnitas on that taco was way too much to be able to pick up the taco with it all inside. They had a good mix of onions and cilantro on them, although I'd have preferred to add my own (I LOVE cilantro). I wish it was nearer; I'd go back often.

The salsa and chips--- First bite tasted like tomato paste to me, very tangy and had a kick of spice. Chips were warm. No Guacamole!!!! What Mexican place has no guac? Chimichanga de pollo-- Shredded chicken with some onions, peppers and covered in cheese sauce. Fajitas mixta-- Steak was a little tough and chicken was very thin slices. Lacked some spices. More onions, green peppers and tomatoes than meat. It wasn't bad, but for our taste we have had better. The whole meal lacked spices. Would we recommend? Yes, give it a try, you might like it. Salsa is good but it's too tomato pastey for us.

My buddy opted for the Spicy Smash. The burgers were mmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmm great, Juicy and the bun held up. Fries were fresh and would like to see maybe a topping or poutine option for them. Cool spot to get some AC and great burger before a Smokies game or a night in the old City.

SmashCity wasn't far off of the interstate, it had good ratings and although we'd been eating burgers and fries quite a bit on this roadtrip, a good burger and fries really sounded good. All of the reviews were right on - this was absolutely NOT fast food - it was fast, really fast, but the speed was just bonus. As we usually do, we split. We chose the Carolina BBQ smash. The burgers were juicy - if you're not careful, I guarantee you'll be wearing it. Two critiques, it definitely needed more sauce - I just added some of the SmashCity sauce from our fries and it worked but I really would have liked to have had more BBQ sauce. Second, the fried onions were quite burned. I pulled off most of them. The hand cut fries were piping hot, just the right amount of greasy and seasoned perfectly. Splitting the burger was a good call - I'd never have eaten the whole thing myself. The burger and fries were just over $20. When you consider a Big Mac meal at that clown place is $14, SmashCity is almost a bargain. Paul, the owner was like the energizer bunny - he was everywhere at once. Personality oozed from his pores. Make sure you tell him Sue said hi! (He won't remember me but just say hi anyway!) Now I wouldn't say SmashCity has the best burgers - that award goes to our friend Jerry. He makes a pretty mean smash burger on the blackstone. If you have an extra half hour, skip the fast food burger joints, get off that highway, and go let Paul fill your belly for the rest of your trip! You'll appreciate it!

We each had a burger I had the chili cheese burger. Food arrived hot but the burger was a fat ball of tastelessness. It didn't even cover the entire bun, which wasn't that big to begin with ( for those prices). So your first few bites are nothing but bun and lettuce. the bun wasn't even that good, toasted or good bread. To make it worse the fries were sad and soggy. Maybe it's just me but I prefer crispy fries not ones that droop over when you picked them up. I ended up taking the bun off eating the chili and toppings leaving half my meat and I didn't even finish the fries. I love my french fries and for me to leave. French fries uneaten is definitely a statement. After the meal, I asked what he thought and he said the same thing. Very underwhelming and doubtful that we would return. I really wanted to love it.
