The problem I have here is that the store entrance faces the parking lot and not the street. When I asked why, the guy said its to control traffic and the bus stop is right outside. *gasp* Is he insinuating something about people like me that ride the bus?! It's not fair that those who choose to walk or catch the bus have to walk all the way around building but drivers don't. Dont you think its unfair, that the store front is more accessible to the privileged folk who can afford a car vs those who catch bus or walk? My concerns were dismissed and he clearly didn't take me seriously. It's a shame that this is the culture of the business. read more

I had a wonderful and meaningful experience here! From the start, Margaret, Jack, Jeff, and the team here were very friendly, knowledgeable, patient, helpful, accommodating, and professional in helping me choose the right piano. I was having a hard time deciding on a piano. But, over the course of a few months, I was able to come in multiple times and have all the time I needed to try out their pianos. They were very patient and accommodating every time. I always loved how beautifully Jack and Jeff played/demonstrated on the pianos! I finally decided on a beautifully sounding Hoffman V126 upright which is now a lovely gem in our home. Special thanks to Jack for being so personally invested in my growth as a musician, help in choosing the right piano, and recommending wonderful piano teachers who I am now learning from! Thank you Jack, Margaret, Jeff, and Hovig for everything! read more

After taking a long break from the piano, I came to this store to buy an instrument. Jack and his staff were tremendously helpful- educating me on the differences between models and setting me up with the right fit. They are extremely knowledgeable and well connected in the piano community- even referring me to a local instructor. Highly recommend this spot and am excited for many years of playing ahead! read more

I'm a new fan of Keyboard Concepts located in Santa Monica. I was in the market to rent a Yamaha piano for about 9-12 months. We have plans to buy a new piano in about a year. We walked into the store and met the manager, Jeff. He was oustanding in customer service. Jeff showed us different grades, styles, conditions of pianos and discussed the different qualities & downfalls of each paino. He also took time to show us the new features of the pianos made today (silencing, electronics, recording, etc.). Throughout our entire experience, he was very informative and patient. Because of Jeff's great customer service, we decided to rent a piano for several months. Let my piano lessons begin! Woo hoo! Thanks for your help, Jeff. We'll be back around in a few months to discuss the purchase of a new piano! Product Quality: A! Service Grade: A! Worth the Money Grade: B+ Overall Impression Grade: A- read more

I was quite impressed with the amount of sheet music they had on hand. I figured they would have to special order for certain composers, but that wasn't the case here. Their selection of classical music was quite large as well, could of stood there for hours browsing through all the books They also had a lovely selection of Yamaha pianos. I'm not too much of a fan of Yamaha however all the instruments looked beautiful. They do allow arrangements to rent pianos if financing for a new one is out of the question. Customers can also bring in old used pianos to trade, depending on the year, make and condition it's in. Parking was easy to find and if you check in on Yelp they offer a discount on specific merchandise. The customer service was fine and helpful, however, when I talked to the owner I asked him a direct question in regards to the pianos and for some reason he kept on wanting to dance around the subject and wouldn't answer me directly? Thought it was weird. I had to ask him four times before he gave me a straight answer. Over all great music store, with a large amount of variety. read more

Make Margaret at KCSM your last connection before you buy your next instrument: she will treat you right. We received our brand-new Yamaha Clavinova CVP701 earlier than expected and still got an unmatched deal. From first-contact thru delivery: we are elated. read more

I just want to express my thoughts about the wonderful service we received at Keyboard Concepts while looking to purchase a new piano for our grand children. The sales person in charge (Margaret) was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful throughout the process. We were able, with her assistance, to reach a quick decision on the particular piano that suited our requirements. The piano was delivered professionally right on time and placed at the exact location that we requested. It was a great experience from beginning to end and we highly recommend "Keyboard Concept" in case you're in the market for a piano. read more

I bought a second hand Yamaha piano from Keyboard Concepts a few months ago, and I must say I am very pleased. When I went in to look at pianos the staff was very helpful, patient, and friendly. We looked at about 6-7 pianos in various price ranges before I settled on the one I ultimately purchased. The shopping experience was very informative - I learned more about pianos than I had ever known before! In a good way! Keyboard Concepts also provides one free piano tuning and I wanted to say that the tuner who came, Yoshie May, was awesome! Super patient, she spent over an hour and a half meticulously listening and tuning each note. And most impressively she did it all by ear! She doesn't have a yelp page so I wanted to add that she was great as well. read more

I recently purchased a piano from Keyboard Concepts in Santa Monica and had a fantastic experience working with both Margaret and Jeff. They listened to my needs/preferences and walked me through the relevant models, action and features in a way that made it easy to differentiate the models I was considering. They were kind, patient, and not remotely 'sales'-like or pushy. They made the whole process incredible and customer focused from start to finish, despite the COVID restrictions. A true VIP experience - thank you! read more

I wanted to wait several months before doing a write up as I take these reviews pretty seriously. I rarely do them but I thought this might help someone in my shoes I was a bit nervous when I started my piano search. Unlike most things one buys these days (online, no human interaction, one shot, solve your own problems - or not) I assumed and hoped my music path would be a bunch of things - personal, daunting, important, hopefully lifelong. However I've seen a bunch of people quit - and everyone says learning needs to start very early. I realized that, besides the piano, what I was really looking for was someone I could trust even though I was just going to pay them once, and it was no small investment - therefore, I was in a great place to get hosed. Even worse, the piano I bought is quite complex. Between the manual and YouTube, I know there was a lot of info, but when the manager Jeff said, just "call anytime - we can answer any questions no matter how technical" all I could think was, "well I wonder how this will go". Despite my worries, I bought the piano (Yamaha Clavinova 709) - it was gorgeous, beautifully crafted and had teaching non-gimmicky features that, as a complete beginner, I couldn't find anywhere else. I knew that I could both start with it and grow into it. I am VERY happy with the instrument but that is not why I am writing this....What really blew me away is that even though my check is long cashed, I have gone back to the store and to Jeff several times with some very annoying questions and he has been nothing but great - I've never felt rushed and ALL of my questions have been addressed. The guy really really cares about my experience with the piano and he has handled every one of my frustrations immediately. My experience with Keyboard Concepts and Jeff has been fantastic - from selling to pricing to buying advice to installation oversight - but most of all, his promise of after-sale service has been amazing. I trusted him and it was a great move. (Btw, its not a coincidence that I am now doing hours on the piano and am learning stuff like left-hand sight reading while following along with the score - its ridiculous. Remember, I'm an adult with no musical training and frankly not a lot of confidence as I was sure I was not "musical"). Bottom line - 5 stars and I will refer any friend of mine to them. read more

My son was starting piano so we were in the market for one. Jeff helped us select the perfect one for our current and future needs. He was very patient with explaining all the differences between the models were were considering. He brought up considerations I hadn't thought of. The buying process was painless, and they have contacts with good movers so the entire delivery process was great. read more

"Manager" Jeff, could not be more "entitled", arrogant, cocky, and unprofessional. Working at a piano store on Saturday does not give you the right to be an prick. Not only did he lose the sale of a Overpriced Piano for being so rude but he got another bad review as well (seems to be a pattern!) Don't even bother here. read more

This place is amazing. I have been playing keys for about 15 years now. I was in the area shopping for some records next door. The sign caught my attention. I walked in and was immediately greeted by friendly staff members. I was interested in looking at the Bosendorfers. Margaret was very friendly and let me check out a few Bosendorfers. The Yamaha technology with the Disklavier system is phenomenal. It essentially has tracks recorded by various Yamaha artists. It will feel like those artists are playing the piano in your home. It was pretty cool to watch. If you are in the market for a piano, look no further. Come to Keyboard Concepts!! read more

My wife and I are the proud owners of a Bösendorfer 280VC. We live in Virginia, and Keyboard Concepts is in L.A. Despite the distance, I worked with Jeff Bauer via email. I already knew I wanted the 280VC, and a mutual friend placed us in contact with each other. There was no 280VC locally for me to try out and purchase. My friend, a piano technician, said the tone of this piano was amazing, and Jeff greased the wheels for the transaction to be completed. Several weeks later, the 280VC is in our home. The action is beyond belief; the sound, amazing. We cannot be happier. I have always loved the Bösendorfer sound, and this piano cannot be improved upon. Wonderful job, Keyboard Concepts. Our eternal gratitude to Jeff. read more

Keyboard Concepts - absolutely extraordinary Bösendorfer 280VC. Action is beyond belief. Sound is extraordinary. - Piano Services Near Me - Santa Monica, California

I had a fantastic experience at Keyboard Concepts. I wanted to return to piano after years away, and Jack helped us find the perfect one. I think I tried 10-15 different pianos in the store - all of which were excellent - before settling on the one we purchased. Jack was super knowledgeable, patient, and helpful throughout the entire process. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

You would think that a store called Keyboard Concepts would sell, you know, keyboards... Nope. Apparently, they sell only pianos. Wasted 1 hour or my time in Westside traffic. Perhaps, they should consider renaming the store as it's been 50-years since the term keyboard has referred to anything but a synthesizer or computer input device. Two stars for not being a faceless retail giant, but at least when I set foot into Guitar Center, I know I can buy a guitar there... read more

Most of my experience was spent in the Santa Monica store. Jeff - who runs the store and may be part owner was so knowledgeable about all things related to the pianos I was considering. They patiently let me come back like 6-7 times. I was also looking at pianos at another fine piano store in the area that didn't carry Yamahas. I do loved the Yamaha sound that I ended up choosing the C6X with the Silent Player option. What a choice. I pinch myself every time I play it. While the piano was the primary reason I purchased it here, all of the other elements kept me working with Keyboard Concepts. Jeff was the number one reason. Secondly, they are well known and plugged into the retail piano marketplace and we talked fairly about the various brands and locations. Never desparagingly - just talking pros and cons of brands and how pianos are different, harmonics, sound differences, and more. I trusted they would help me work with a local piano technician in the area. I have worked with two who both seem excellent. And they both work with Keyboard Concepts regularly. They are a fixture in the LA piano/keyboard scene. Nothing but the best experience here!!! read more

Mark is a rude customer associate. He promised me that he'll call me back for an estimate but he never did. So I purchased piano somewhere else because they took care of me so much better. I felt like Mark judged me by the way I look because I was just wearing casual t-shirts and jeans that day. But I really was serious purchasing small grand piano with silent system installed. And...! I went back to this store again couple months later to buy some sheet music and I test played one of their expensive piano. Mark shows up to me and told me that my keychain from my wallet may scratch their expensive piano bench. Ok... Sorry, and I looked my keychain and it wasn't even touching the piano bench. What's wrong with this person being so rude? read more

I have been dropping into Keyboard Concepts with my two daughters for many years. They enjoy playing different pianos and the staff is always welcoming of this exploration and extremely knowledgeable of the inventory. Jeff stayed in contact with me over the years and helped to assess what my kids needed at various stages in their development as musicians. When we finally purchased our Yamaha C3, we feel very satisfied with the instrument, with Jeff's expert guidance and with the assurance that when we are ready to trade up, we will get full credit for our purchase towards the next great piano. Our family recommends this store highly! We love our new piano! Thank you again Jeff. read more

Store has really bad prices on pianos when you compare. Go to Hollywood Pianos. Much better prices and service. Also, when you need sheet music, selection is limited, and it takes them 2-3 weeks to order. Really, don't bother. And if you want to play their pianos, they "don't allow that." How does a store sell pianos without letting you play them? Go elsewhere. read more

The store manager, Jeff, is extremely rude, arrogant, and unprofessional. I wish I could give them zero stars. As a concert pianist and piano teacher, I will make sure to never refer my students to this store ever again to purchase their pianos. I don't have experience buying an actual piano here, but I have purchased plenty of sheet music for myself or my students. Good discount policy for music educators. Wonderful selection of pianos and keyboards in a friendly and professional store. You can find everything from a beginner digital keyboard to an extremely high end acoustic grand piano. They rent pianos and keyboards if you are not in the market to purchase. They also refer out for piano tuners, piano repair and music teachers. Full service shop - knowledgeable and helpful staff. read more

Pretty good experience. I was searching for an electric keyboard and was having no luck at vintage stores (for used ones) and the major chain store really failed me. Through Mark I learned that the other keyboards I found online were not what I should buy per my need. I needed a realistic feel compared to an acoustic piano. This is something I wasn't able to learn through online research and other salesmen at other stores. Their selection of sheet music was extensive and I found some nice music that I always wanted to learn to play. I was able to walk out with a keyboard, sheet music and a couple other items right in my budget. I can see how some people feel about the service there, but I was able to get what I needed and they treated me very well. I think at a place like this might be a store you need to know something about what you are buying. Which would matter when wanting to plunk down 6 figures for a piano (their prices range for less than that to more than that of course). I was very unsure of the purchase and had to ask a lot of questions to be absolutely sure of the purchase. Mark seemed very patient with me as I went through my process of deciding to buy If you want a more aggressive salesman, go someplace else. If you want a relaxed atmosphere without the pressure, come here. read more

It was a great experience at Keyboard Concept. I walked in and was educated about each piano and brand, about all the pros and cons traditional vs digital, and I was lucky enough to take advantage of a tax-free promotion they had at that time. Fabulous service oriented company. I needed to sell a 1936 Steinway. Process was informative, honest, quick and easy.

Four years ago my very young children were playing on a keyboard for lessons. Neither my husband, nor I, play the piano or any musical instrument for that matter. Our piano teacher suggested Keyboard Concepts because they had a great rental program. I called and spoke to Mark who understood immediately what we needed. He hooked us up with a great sounding used piano. It allowed us to get our feet wet and see if we really would use a piano if we owned one. Four years later I called Mark and told him we were ready to buy. He went through our needs and we decided that a used piano would be a perfect fit. I played the part of a diva and explained I couldn't come in and search their inventory. I have kids. Traffic. I don't live close. Mark kept his eyes peeled and when he found something he thought we'd like, he emailed me photos and broke down how much we would owe after the rental equity. I rushed in and he was on point. It was exactly the look and price I had asked for. We did the paperwork quickly and he worked about my schedule and helped me out immensely. But I am most thankful that he knows his stuff. I was able to trust that he was selling me what we needed and not what he wanted to sell. He's knowledgable and made it so, ridiculous easy for me. I can't recommend this place enough.
