This company tried to scam us. They told us the trip was being canceled due to rain, then they tried to boom us for the next day, When we asked for a refund they said we didn't show up to our scheduled trip so they were charging us a $50.00 per person no show fee. Even though we showed up two minutes before the ferry departed. So it was not canceled after all they just tried to re book us for the next day and they lied to us. I would not recommend this business.

Negative 5 stars, The boat departs before the scheduled time and they charge you a no show fee of $50.00 per person. Drove an hour away for nothing, The staff are rude, and all they care about is taking your money , not about the customer or the experience. I do not recommended this company.

Really enjoyed this. But I don't recommend a day trip as you're on the ferry more than in the island

We took the Key West Express to and from Key West instead of driving late June 2024. It was super nice and going down there were only like 50 people on the huge boat. The trip takes about 4 hours and you don't have WiFi for about 3 hours so make sure to bring something to do. We got a table and played cards to pass the time. They have restrooms and a snack bar. There are also TVs scattered throughout. The trip back however was on a smaller boat and there were so many people that some had to stand for the ride. I would have been PO'd if I paid $175 per ticket and I had to stand. Just make sure you get there early to get a seat. They really should have assigned seating so you don't have to waste an hour of your vacation waiting to get on the boat and get a good seat. I was fine, I got a table, but it just didn't seem fair for the others. TL:DR Going was great, coming back was overly crowded and some people didn't have seats.

if you're in the Fort Myers or Marco Island area in South Florida, the Key West express is a great way to visit Key West. It's a 3 1/2 hour trip one way if you go just for the day you can have roughly 1130 to 430 for shopping time. It leaves promptly from Fort Myers at 8 o'clock and returns at 5 o'clock so yes it's a long day, but worth it know that the ship itself has multiple styles of seating if you want a table to play cards or games during your trip, you need to be one of the first people who board all passengers must be on board a half hour before they set sell they have a fully stocked bar on board, they also have a snack bar with an assortment of fast food. They have multiple levels and I highly recommend when you leave the Florida coast to go outside on the top level and get an image of the dolphins that will be surely following you out of the bay. There's plenty of parking for your car at the dock, where you pick up the boat you do you have to buy a parking pass. The staff is extremely friendly. They have a raffle on board no Wi-Fi so be prepared. They do have TV with close caption as well. Restrooms are very clean.

Had an awesome first experience on the express. As someone who is constantly early for this I am in love with the boarding process. Boarding is from 7-7:30am. Boat leaves at 8am. If everyone is onboard they leave early. Do Not Be Late! We did a day trip which is doable but it IS A LONG DAY! I don't know if I'd do that again. Heading down was a bit rocky for the first two hours then calmed down. And no the boat cannot control the water or the weather. There are a variety of seats available. Including some seats that slightly recline line an airplane. There are also tables and more lounge type seating. The crew was great. Very helpful and friendly. They have two bars and a snack bar onboard. The pretzel and cheese was not bad for being microwaved and their snacks weren't outrageously expensive. My family will be back again in April.

Took the Key West Express down from Fort Myers and had a pleasant experience. We left Sunday morning and returned Monday evening. The boat definitely seemed busier on Sunday and the boat on the way back was the nicer of the two we got to ride. They have drinks and snacks on board for purchase. The ride itself was smooth, but very windy on the way down. The sunset on the return ride was beautiful. This was a great way to get down to Key West, but also fairly pricey.

Ask the Community - Key West Express

Is there a trolly at the Key West Express Dock, to take us to the Hyatt Centric?

Hi, Amber. You would need to contact the hotel directly, to see if they offer a shuttle.

The ride to key west was a little bumpy but Dramamine did the trick & it was totally smoothe on the way back.

Now known as MATLACHA BOATING ADVENTURES - Excursion Date -…read more3/25/2024 Without a doubt... THE BEST TIME I'VE EVER HAD ON THE WATER - Bar None! Captain Will delivered as promised and we had the most enjoyable afternoon at the absolute best value of any excursion in ALL OF FLORIDA! Our family of four went out with the good Captain and his sister boat with Captain Chris and headed over to Coya Costa - Do NOT MISS THE MYSTERY BEACH - There is nothing like being the only souls on miles of beach in the pristine aqua-green waters of the Gulf. We also cruised a secluded bay filled with Manatee and saw nesting Osprey for the first part of the trip. All the time filled with little tid-bits of history and stories about the islands and wildlife. The short walk to the beach reminded you or an episode of Gilligan's Island or Survivor but to dip in the gulf water in early Spring weather with the feeling of secluded luxury was worth every single penny. We then journeyed to Cabbage Key and had a stop at the famous restaurant for some "ON-Point" and fresh Stone Crab followed by an excellent Cheeseburger that may or may not have inspired you-know-who to pen a famous song about such carnivorous habits..... That was topped off by the tangiest frozen Key-Lime pit and a few scoops of ice cream from the local creamery. The trip back to Pine Island and Captain Will's tailgate office found us enjoying the nostalgic views and gorgeous homes of Useppa Island followed by Dolphin views and then twenty minutes of the dolphin pod ridding the wake of our vessel. We could not have imagined how exciting, fun, and memorable this excursion was. Without a doubt, at the prices he charged, no other ferry, tour, or excursion gives you half as much for the money on the Florida coast. This little operation is highly recommended and I'm not easy to please. Another couple of two adults shared he boat with us and they were blown away too with words of praise and plans to repeat the trip again. As a tip, arrive early and check out the fish market. If you're lucky, Uno or Lefty as Captain Will calls him will be begging for fish at the back of the dock by the fish market. The wild dolphin was sheer joy to watch as were were literally inches away from him as he waited on a fish or two from the fleet dropping their catch at the market. We could have watched the huge bottle-nose dolphin for hours. That alone was a high-light worthy of calling it a day but our entire journey defied expectations. I can not recommend Captain Will & Company from Matlacha Boating Adventures. Support a Veteran Owned Business and enjoy an unforgettable trip around Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico. This excursion made our trip a memory to cherish! Thanks Captain Will for an unprecedented time on the water!!! If you book elsewhere, you won't have as much fun and you'll pay too much!
