When I arrived I was told to go to the 11th floor. I arrived on the 11th floor exactly 15 minutes after my appointment time - within the grace period. Then I was told I was on the wrong floor. When I arrived on the correct floor they had me go through the entire process of giving them my insurance and then decide to tell me that they'd have to reschedule after all of that. Meanwhile there was another patient who was 30 minutes late who was seen. Horrible experience and will not be returning to Dr. Starr. I'd recommend staying away from this practice.

I see more than ten different ophthalmologists and finally I meet Dr. Belgorod. He stems the symptoms of scleritis and saved the sight of my right eye. A few years later he successfully performed exacting cataract surgery on that same eye. Underlying these successful results (as well as others) is a continual concern for my wellbeing as evidenced by his thorough examinations; by his taking copious notes; by making progressive drawings of any existing eye problem; by his taking whatever time necessary to answer my questions. These are part of the pattern I have come to rely upon and no matter what my ocular problem was, I always felt better after seeing him. When it comes to my sight I may not be an ordinary patient. Dr. Belgorod spent time going over all procedures with me, answering my questions, giving clear written pre and post-operative instructions and making sure I understood everything. He spent time answering all my questions completely and never seem to be in too much of a rush to help me. When I called the office to ask questions, he called me back within an hour. The original examination was very through and included procedures both in his office and at the Manhattan eye and ear hospital. During the surgery, Dr. Belgorod explained everything that he was going to be doing. I was so very satisfied with all my care and follow-up. I will continue with Dr. Belgorod for all my vision care.

After talking to quite a few ophthalmologists and getting countless scans, I was referred to his office independently by two other eye surgeons, one of whom teaches at Columbia. They both told me he was the only doctor they'd recommend for the procedure I needed. Dr. Pamel's staff and office is organized, pleasant, and very professional. Dr. Pamel himself has a direct, no-nonsense approach that I appreciate in a surgeon. He patiently explained my options and worked with me on cost since I was paying out of pocket and had already spent quite a bit on another related eye surgery with another doctor (that one was not a good experience). He also spoke with me in the evenings from his cellphone to ensure I understood what could/needed to be done. I was impressed with the thoroughness of the scanning and calculations. They checked and rechecked and checked again--and since this is eyes we're talking about, I thought, "take allllllll the time you need." The surgery itself went great, and he was available for all my questions afterward as I nervously recovered at home. I have 20/20 vision--I used to have -6.50 in each eye with nonstandard corneal shape and astigmatism. For the first time since I was 9, I can see right when I wake up, when I'm in the shower, etc. It's almost a year later, and my eyes feel good. Throwing out my glasses and contacts felt incredible. I wake up every day grateful for Dr. Pamel's excellent work and his organized, efficient staff.

To my shock, a large blotch of blood covered a corner of my left eye. It looked horrible. Yet... I had to get in the cab. I had to catch my plane, or did I? Once settled in the cab, I called Dr. Latkany's office and explained my predicament asking if I should get on an airplane in this condition. Dr. Latkany came on the line quickly, said he had patients waiting, and asked if I could facetime him right away. After some technical glitches he was able to see the blood blotch in my eye. He asked me questions. With a very calm voice, full of confidence he said I should continue to the airport and on to my plane. He said it would clear up in about a week. If it doesn't then I was to call him for further advice. With Dr. Latkany's clear and unshakable confidence I got on the jet and enjoyed my two week trip in South America. And, he was spot on about the spot. The blotch, after traveling across my eye, was gone in a week. Once again, I'm grateful to the skill and confidence that Dr. Latkany provides. And grateful that he understood the gravity of my decision such that he broke away from his schedule to address my problem immeditately. Many thanks to Dr. Latkany and his team.

No one ever called me back or responded to my email and I keep getting a bill for $300. I saw the Dr to investigate an irritation in my eye that was persisting after getting something caught in my eye. I had seen the Dr before about chronic dry eye. This was not a dry eye follow up--I even called to make sure what the amount would be for this specific visit (out of pocket--no insurance at the time) and I paid it. You can't decide you want to bill a patient for a different amount after the fact and tell me it was a dry-eye follow up (which I'm assuming costs more). Really ridiculous & frustrating.
