Been wanting to try African food for the longest and finally got to try it out my partner and I order the Egusi soup with beef , jollof rice with chicken and meat pie. The egusi soup was flavorful but does have an aftertaste of fish but the fufu tasted fresh and hot ! The jollof rice was spectacular The meat pie was my favorite was a perfect balance of spice in there and a lil spicy kick !

Cool experience trying Kess Kitchen. I have not had much African food, but it was a fun choice to try while at the international market. I decided to do the Goat meat in the egusi soup and also with the jollof rice. The egusi soup definitely is an acquired taste that took me some time to get used to. In regard to the goat meat, it was surprisingly tender. The jollof rice was okay, but I would have like it to have more of a flavor punch. Overall, I cook experience worth at least trying.

Located in the RD international market, ordered the egusi with beef, and okra stew with goat. Both were so flavorful, tender meat and good portion. Came with fufu but I ordered 1 extra. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the service was quick with good packaging for take away. I can't wait to come back to try the suya and jollof.

This is my first time ever trying Nigerian food, and I thought it was great! The soup and fufu were served piping hot and flavorful. The soup has a deep, savory flavor thickened with melon seeds. The goat meat made the whole soup taste gamey so just be mindful when you are deciding between the mixed meat or beef option. I removed a star because they were supposed to open at 12, but kept delaying their opening until a little before 1. It was worth the wait, but I wouldn't come right at opening again. There is only one chef in the kitchen so the food may take a while. Kess Kitchen is located inside of RD International Market in the food court. The ambiance and seating is standard food court style. It's nice to be able to try a little bit of everything for the other food stalls.

Chicken and beef with rice, plantains and vegetables.

The food was excellent. Large portions for the price. Service is great. Had chicken and beef with plantains. Definitely recommend.

"First Coast" food - 1 of 2…read more Every once in a while, barbecued goodness calls and, in JAX, I can think of about 3 mini barbecue chains. I've been to Bono's in past years, and it was fine. I thought I'd try Woody's Bar-B-Q, wedged in a quiet mixed use area between the Southbank and San Marco. With South Florida being tri-state NYC and North Florida being the South, not to mention JAX being so close to the Georgia state line, you know that good barbecue ought to be available in this neck of the woods. It is and it was. And I'm glad I wandered into Woody's that afternoon. Granted, it wasn't crowded, but the service went above and beyond. The interior is woodsy and the air conditioning was working beautifully, so I'd be eating in. I had a 2 meat combination plate - beef and turkey - that also came with sweet potatoes, lima beans, and toasted bread. I also had a refillable soft drink with the meal. It was all very good and I could have eaten even more. The price was fair. There is parking right in front of this low key eatery. Woody's is not that hard to find, just slightly west of I-95 once south of the St. John's River.

So, we decided to wait. We both wanted BBQ. We both ordered the beef platter with two sides. My sides were potato salad and Mac n cheese, sweet tea. Ernie's sides were French fries and Cole slaw. We both enjoyed our meal immensely! The Waitress was very good. Pros: great food, service and atmosphere. Cons: has been updated, but it might be time for another update. We could see one of the girls working in the kitchen g-string undies. Maybe not appropriate for the restaurant work hours. Recommend: yes

Everything the company prepares is locally sourced, scratch-made and preservative free. Jasmin, the owner of Blue Sage Cuisine, was quick to respond to our inquiry to set up a call to discuss what menu we envisioned for our wedding day. I appreciated her knowledge of our venue space in addition to the recommendations she provided us for selecting the menu and the set up. We had an in-home menu tasting where Jasmin brought the entire menu we'll be having at our wedding. It was great to not only meet her but also to try the delicious spread. Our menu consists of mashed potatoes, rosemary skewers, herb roasted salmon, grilled chicken with mushrooms and caprese skewers. All menus are totally customizable and we picked our personal favorites from a vast list of selections. The possibilities are truly endless. Everything we tried was fresh and flavorful and we can't wait to wow our guests' tastebuds in the fall on our big day.

Gordon's is similar but weaker by my opinion in some regards. However, it does have strengths which make it worth a visit. For non-restaurant folks, the biggest draw likely will be the frozen food section which includes a vast variety of frozen seafood and meat to cook and also ready-prepared dishes ranging from mashed taters to whole cakes. Remember, this is restaurant supply, so whole cakes and cheesecakes (which when sliced likely are passed off at many a restaurant as "our chef's own creation" by drizzling some caramel sauce across them). For those who don't know, cheesecakes especially freeze *just fine* and thaw out *just fine* and a frozen one of quality can be just as good as a made-from-scratch one. There were frozen dishes like stuffed bell peppers which interested me but again, restaurant portions so I didn't need like a flat of 20 stuffed peppers and didn't buy them. If I had a half-empty chest freezer and less restraint however I'd easily have scooped up all kinds of stuff like this. Some items are name brands, some their own Gordon brand, some brands I'd not heard of but may be big in food service--I don't know. Beyond the frozen goods, they have things like large quanities of BBQ sauce, tomato paste, and pasta--again, aimed at restaurants. They also have a lot of Monin coffee syrups which is very cool though their prices are a few dollars more than TJ Maxx but the catch is, you never know which Monin syrups any given TJ Maxx will have any given day but here their stock seems stable. While they have all manner of disposable catering goods (foil trays, plastic to-go boxes) they don't have much if any durable table service like restaurant glasses and cups. Nor any kitchen knives it seems. The store in Charleston I mentioned had a great selection of these things so that was disappointing. Service was fine. I didn't need help, my friend has shopped here before and guided me around. The lady at check-out was friendly enough. I'd recommend visiting Gordon's and seeing what they have: look carefully, *a lot* is packed in there, especially the frozen section. If you have a large family and a chest freezer (or two or three) you probably can play your cards right and really save money here.
