The reviews I found prior to contacting with Montway looked good. Wish I had seen the Yelp reviews…read more I contracted with Montway on 4/1 for first available pick up on 4/3. I paid their broker fee and was told I could pay cash to the carrier for the balance. On 4/9 I got notice a carrier had been assigned and would contact about pick up. 45 minutes later I was called and asked if I had another contact number for the sender as they couldn't reach him, the driver would be canceling in ten minutes if we couldn't get the sender because the truck is in the area. So that was canceled because we weren't given the hours of notice we were told we'd get. On 4/11 I got notice that it would be picked up on 4/12 (Sunday). It was picked up. The eta was listed as Friday 4/17, I thought that's fast, great. On Monday, after the car was picked up, I was sent a text from the actual carrier asking how I was paying the balance, and that they do not accept cash. So I told them the motor carrier that I contacted with specifically said to pay cash, and I'm not paying with zelle, PayPal etc etc. So this went on for days with the carrier and the broker, and the eta was never updated from Friday the 17th. So I had to rush to a bank after work to get a bell check for Friday. Friday came and was late when I reached out for an update and was told it would be saturday. Saturday basically through the whole day no update, so I reached out again and was told Monday. Although I was promised Monday the car again was not delivered. On Tuesday i was told by the driver that the radiator in his brand new truck needed to be replaced and he had just picked it up at the dealer. So even if the broker didn't know the truck was having issues the carrier certainly should have known. Not only was the truck having issues but he was three large states over. The driver told me he would be there Wednesday. On Wednesday when the driver didn't update me I called him directly again and he told me it would definitely be Thursday. Thursday morning he called and said his last delivery before me was finally complete and he would be to me within a few hours, and he was. So although I was told the ETA was Friday , Saturday , Monday , Tuesday , Wednesday, I finally got the delivery on Thursday. TLDR: Communication is terrible, scheduling is worse, the disconnect between the broker and the actual company doing the hauling is pathetic. I'm not sure what the answer is because the brokers all use the same haulers and the haulers don't seem to care about communication, only efficency. And I realize in trucking that things need to be efficient if you're going to be profitable, but you cannot ignore your customer and you have to let them know what's going on. Even with all the scheduling issues, as I told the driver when he promised Wednesday and then on Wednesday said it'll actually be Thursday: I don't care what day it is, just give me a truthful answer so I can plan around it. Edit to their response - while I had issues with the carrier, the bulk of my issues were with the broker, Montway. THEIR inept communication is where the majority of my issues started, THEIR terrible scheduling and over promising and potentially lying is where my problems started. Not wth the carrier. The carrier was just a continuation of the problems that I had with the broker. The comment about 20000 different carriers just agrees with the fact that all brokers are dealing with the same haulers, and you need to select the best broker to get t the best service because it all starts there. IMO I did not select the best broker. I would not use Montway again.

I had NOT added one item from the fully executed BOL, and, in fact, had one box LESS! I asked Rico to leave and I would pursue the return of my deposit. He advised that the company would Not return it, regardless of who my Attorney was. After hours of back & forth, with several managers of Cross Country Movers, I agreed to pay $400 over our Agreement, which was a Huge mistake! They held my stuff for 28 days!! This is the review I sent to Rosa del Monte…read more 1 Star - Extremely Disorganized, Poor Communication, No Accountability Our experience with Rosa del Monte (Puerto Rico / Philadelphia) was deeply frustrating and disappointing from start to finish. We shipped a pickup truck on October 17 from Puerto Rico. We were quoted $1,800, but upon arrival at the Philadelphia facility, they refused to honor the quoted price and instead demanded $3,000. Only after a lengthy conversation did they finally agree to honor the original quote. This should have been our first warning sign. On November 29, we received a formal letter from Rosa del Monte (receiving destination) stating that the truck was ready for pickup. We went in person and were told we needed to pay the taxes, which we did immediately. We were then informed that the truck still needed to be inspected and that this would take about one week, after which they would call us. That call never came. For weeks, we called twice a week, every week. Each time, we were told the same thing: "Please leave a message and someone will call you back." No one ever returned our calls. The person answering the phone was consistently unwilling or unable to provide any information beyond repeating that script. Finally, on January 9, after nearly six weeks of silence, we went in person to investigate. Only then were we told--very casually--that the truck was ready for pickup and had apparently been ready all along. We were also told they had "called and left a message," which never happened. There were no missed calls or voicemails--at any point. Adding insult to injury, the November letter explicitly stated that daily storage fees would begin after December 1. The fact that no storage fees were charged strongly suggests this case was forgotten, neglected, or improperly tracked rather than actively processed. The most disappointing part of this entire experience was the complete lack of accountability. No apology. No acknowledgment of the delay. No explanation. When we later called to file a complaint, we were laughed at and told: "This matter is resolved. We don't see what the issue is." The issue was never the truck alone--it was the weeks of silence, misinformation, disregard, and total lack of customer care. All we asked for was a basic apology for how poorly this was handled. We didn't even receive that. This was a terrible experience--one I would not wish on anyone. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Rosa del Monte to anyone who values transparency, communication, or professionalism.

Elliot took great care of our needs, and we are greatly satisfied with his customer service. We will definitely recommend LA ROSA DEL MONTE to our family and friends.

The detailed version: I was super stressed out about the move before booking: I had a lot on my plate, and reading about scary moving experiences online didn't help at all. So I did my homework carefully: (a) Check Yelp: get a shortlist of movers with good reviews (I read the negative reviews on purpose and see whether what was mentioned was really a problem with the movers, or just things beyond anyone's control, or sheer ranting...). (b) Check each and every candidate mover in the FMCSA database (https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move/select-mover): see if they are legit and have zero customer complaints (NOT all of those on my shortlist was authorized to do the job - scary!) (c) Getting a quote: I submitted quote requests for three finalists. One of them took almost a week to get back to me. The other asked so many questions online that I almost gave up filling out the form. SMP's online form was very brief - that's just another benefit of flat-rate prices. For my move from Philly to Chapel Hill, SMP also has the best listing price (the flat-rate one listed on their website), AND the peace of mind knowing there's not going to be any hidden fees is invaluable, too! So that's how I decided to try to work with SMP. (***I "try" because I am well aware of the fact that (a) this is peak moving season and (b) my intended move date was only TWO WEEKS away!) I communicated with Nate via email throughout the entire process - the responses were always nice and clear, and definitely as prompt as one could expect from an owner of a busy moving company at this time of the year (and often really swift by any other standards)! Then comes the loading day! We scheduled for 12:30 pm, and Nate and his crew showed up 20 minutes early with a magnificent truck. The guys were super professional, and I was left with an empty studio within 25 minutes!!! (Tip: having everything packed up and ready to go beforehand really helps. Yes, packing is painful and chaotic, but that gives one all the more reason NOT to do that with people waiting...) The original plan was to load on the afternoon of Day 1, the unload on the morning of Day 3. But Nate told me after loading whether they might be able to unload early on Day 2 because the preceding moving project seems nice and small. Of course I happily accepted - and they did arrive at 7pm on Day 2!! This time it's just Nate and Tony, but they still had the job done in UNDER AN HOUR!!! (And they accept Venmo as a form of payment - so convenient!) I'm 90% done with unpacking and everything (including my guitar, my two giant and heavy boxes of electronics, and that cheap little shoe shelf that I carelessly half-wrapped in a padded plastic bag) is in perfect condition! Nate and Tony were also extra careful when placing boxes on the floor at my brand new apartment. If someone told me I could be this happy and thrilled after a long-distance move on a hot and humid summer day, I would never believed him/her. But Nate and his team at SMP truly lived up to their name and offered a SMOOTH and PROFESSIONAL moving experience! I would highly recommend them to everyone I know!

I then asked how to move forward - no answer for three days. On the third day I asked again if someone could please reach out and tell me the next steps and the reply, the next day was that they wanted to know my destination and inventory (ummmm you were given that originally). I again gave the destination pickup/drop off and full inventory list. That was three days ago, no response. Honestly, how can you be a reputable company when you don't respond to client requests? If the job was something they didn't/couldn't do, the least they could do is tell you instead of ignoring you. If this is how they respond in the beginning then how are they going to be with managing your move? Danger, danger Will Robinson.
