Please, do not go there! The place is full of thieves, and the management never warns you about the risks. We lost my son's brand-new clothes, backpack, and shoes--almost $500 worth of items. I've been coming to open gym & open swim for over a year. The front desk started to deny access because they needed an ID & my disabled client didn't have hers with her. I come back months later with an ID during open gym & they say they need to charge us $20 for a day pass. Open gym & swim no longer means free access anymore. Not sure when that changed but I won't be returning due to this. Memberships and day passes are overpriced. Especially for someone being supported through social security. They were still nice about it which is why they got 2 stars. read more

Clean and family friendly - is nice to see all kinds of people from the neighborhood enjoying the facilities

My children are in their basketball program. At one of the games, this Hispanic/Latina woman was working the front desk. She was already rude and condescending, but I assumed that's from how busy it was. Then, as a large group of people begin entering, she pin points my brothers, and yells about check in and taking their picture in case they are sexual offenders. I totally understand that's policy. But yelling about it in front of such a large number of people is crazy. Everyone stopped and stared because all they heard was "sexual offenders." I know they were judged by the way they were dressed and that is racist, prejudice, and flat out awful customer service. Not only did that occur, but we saw MULTIPLE white families pass by without her trying to even stop them to check them in. Of course higher management doesn't care to actually discipline anyone, but explain policy to me like I'm an idiot or like that was the actual issue. Anyway, I suggest dress the way you want to be judged. read more

I've been a member since the soft open. Got a family plan for me and my 13 yo grandson. He absolutely loves the face to face social time he gets in with kids basketball games and he likes working out. Anything to get him off his screen! I workout 3-4x a week. I absolutely love the gym. Even when there is quite a few teenagers working out, I have to say they are all very well mannered. Every blue moon you'll get one who parks on a machine and gets lost in their phone. I just politely ask if I can get a set in and they always get up and let me get my work done. The people complaining about the staff have me scratching my head. The staff is as diverse as the east hill, in culture and age. I love it. They have always been pleasant to me. I always have headphones on but they acknowledge me and get me checked in without me having to break stride. I think some people are just entitled or need things to complain about. Great dog park behind the facility as well as an outdoor tennis/basketball court. Do keep your car locked and keep an eye on it. Not the Y's fault. Just the current state of America. read more

Can't get over how great the classes and trainers are at this establishment! If you're not the do it yourself solo type of exercise buff, there's a class for you here at all different levels of accessibility. I recently took both the strength training, barre, and yoga class here with different trainers and the classes were great. Not only are they challenging, it really provides a community for you to bond with others trying to achieve the same goal (which is to be healthy, and the best version of yourself.) I am very disappointed by the doubling of my monthly membership fees from $33. Low income senior rate to $63/month, with an email notice telling me to reapply for my membership with only a 4 week email notice. In my opinion this action has broken the mission statements of the YMCA. I think there is a drastic change of administration at the YMCA. It is no longer a welcoming community resource for me. The YMCA has sent me away and I can no longer trust that they want to help better our communities. They just wanted to raise fees, not find ways to rally the community for charity or support. Absolutely disgusted with employee Autumn at the Kent location in Washington State. Just nasty hateful behavior from a person whom I've never met. After expressing my family is homeless and we just would like to come get a shower as we have with zero issues for the last couple of months. Autumn, said no you can not shower, showers closes at 3pm, which would be crazy to think that you can still get in the pool yet, you don't need to shower to enter the pool now? This rule "been" in place was her exact words. We leave and come back the next day at noon, to shower and Autumn sees us come in and stops the other employee from allowing us to go ahead and shower. Then states "no she can not come in, I told her yesterday this...I told her I would give her resources and she can go there. Autumn then asked employee did she pay? The employee responded no but before she could explain that I was still on trial autumn reply back "no ain't nothing free around here" Again I'm being stopped from bathing my family. I will say there was an incident where there was an accident in the family bathroom and the staff was cleaning up the mess. I asked if we could go in the female showers instead? I also over heard someone on the walkie come on and say they're not closing down the showers nor the bathrooms but they will be done cleaning with them at 12:30. So I was going to just wait it out until Autumn came back out around the corner telling me nothings open and I need to go somewhere else. I stated that I just spoke to the other staff and overheard on the walkie that the bathrooms were going to open back up at 12:30 and this set autumn off. She started yelling throwing a tantrum at me in front of customers, my children, customers children, as well as other staff, telling me that she told me what she told me and that was that and I was not going to shower and to go try to Aubrun location. This employee is rude, and comes off, very discriminating against homeless people. The fee to shower is five dollars. This employee acted as if the $5 coming out of her pocket?! I am still on trial for our membership and it does not end for a couple more days but she wouldn't know that because she didn't bother to ask she just was I'm a yelling frenzy to make sure we got out of there and did not shower...she successfully made that happen, not once but twice. The Y needs to be better with their hiring process, as hiring staff who discriminate isn't a good look for a nation wide program. I am certain I am not the only person she has treated this way. It was such ease, and only behavior comes from a person who is miserable, and those type of people do not deserve to be working with people. The YMCA should be ashamed. read more

Facility, faculty & functions! This space is awesome. It's clean, it's safe, and it's got fun for the whole family. The programs offered here are bound to spark if not many, atleast 1 of your interests. From cooking classes to taekwando. Whether it's individual activities, in groups, or even 1-on-1 training sessions, they've got it all. A safe and clean space to work-out and wash-up, to learn and to create in as well. Tons of programs I haven't read about yet! The YMCA/YWCA is an amazing resource. Their program coordinator is awesome, ensuring classes and times are posted and always notifying us of upcoming registrations or even taking suggestions on what sorts of classes or workshops we [the members] may want to see. They also have a swimming coordinator? who, on his first day (was clearly ready to clock-out for the end of his shift) still went above and beyond to help me with a question I had about a class mix-up. cons: -crowded and riddled with teenagers/groups that just dominate certain areas.They come in packs. this place honestly is ran by the cliques of teens that frequent it. its basically a hang out spot for minors -kids roam around with no parents in sight. they treat it like its a daycare -basketball court has no etiquette. same groups of teens play all the time and they dominate and over take the court even if youre already playing there -staff doesn't enforce much rules or have a presence for items above -kidzone gets packed. some parents will just take their kids there and go watch their phones somewhere -swimming pool gets so crowded its basically shoulder to shoulder at peak hours. seem like no capacity limit. -staff at front desk just sits on phone. pros: -kidzone staff is fantastic -classes and instructors are great -facility and equipment is great when u can get to it and not get run out by the groups of teens -lifeguards are awesome Overall the facilty, class, and most staff is really good. but the groups and cliques that dominate the place, especially the basketball courts, and the kids just roaming around everwhere is really off putting. read more

First and foremost, I am writing this review as a parent to other people considering THIS location as their home Y. This place just opened, so be aware that during certain times (mainly late morning, early evening/after school), it's an absolute ZOO. A beautiful, shiny, new zoo, but a zoo nonetheless. Their childcare options and amount of children they can accommodate are less than adequate for the area and member-numbers that they serve. The employees are helpful, it's a new place and they only know so much. When I asked about certain classes, they weren't *completely* ure how they worked, but this is something that should improve with time and experience--and maybe them joining in on one of each of the classes would be helpful. Nevertheless, I'm not sure that the cost of 144 per family is worth it when my children *may* or may not be able to go into care because of the total children they can accommodate, which for me renders the membership practically worthless since one of my children is too small to join me on the fitness floor. Also, the hours for childcare are BONKERS. How am I supposed to workout while my older children are at school if childcare is not open the 3 hours between 1 and 4? Another thing, if the "Kid Zone" is not within operating hours, your child MUST be 7 and up and accompanied by an adult to use the indoor track. Children 8-12 CAN be on the fitness floor after taking the required class. In the end, the Auburn Y is neither shiny, nor new, but their multi-depth activity pool, and far superior "Kid" and "Adventure" zones make me question the true convenience(family-wise) of this location (which is closer to my home). Now, as a singular person, or a parent/care provider who's kids are older or can come in when they are all in the care of someone else, this place is great. The equipment is of course, also "new and shiny", the picturesque view from the second floor windows is/are awe-inducing and frankly, inspiring. To conclude, as a parent, I will definitely visit early afternoon to hopefully snag childcare, and as a person I would take the most advantage of the time I am child-free to come during the other truly "dead hours" when childcare care is not provided. BUT as a family, I think we will keep Auburn as our true family Y. read more

First time visiting the new Kent YMCA today. Full self disclosure- I hate driving to a gym to workout. There is typically a gym at my complex that is open, but that is temporarily closed, so they really forced my hand here to drive the 5 minutes up the hill. Ha. I'm actually glad they did - what a beautiful facility! Tons of parking, and very easy to get in and out of. I headed upstairs and was greeted by tons of equipment, lots of areas for cleaning, and overall pleasant people who were pretty courteous when using equipment. I will definitely be coming here more often! If you're in the area, definitely check it out. Oh, and they have open gym volleyball on Thursday nights! How cool is that? read more

I am so happy that this location exists for youth and parents that need sitters. Glad they invested in a place for teens and kids to have a positive place to convene. Other than that no. Not for adults, someone mentioned a zoo. Well their not animals but zoo like indeed. I agree with the person who said they never check the second floor. I've only seen staff huddle in a corner or off in their own world. Sad. I was there for the grand opening and a speaker mentioned learning to swim. HA! Not at this location. The pool has strange limitations on time and is always full of kids. The front desk workers are all kids. No adult feel at all. I couldn't get into the lose weight class or sessions, I kept getting booted. I was paying 80 bucks for nothing. I work days so I only was able to be there when the crowd got there. I stopped my membership. I am sad about it. If they offered more adult only areas of the facility I'd probably go back. Otherwise I can workout at home. I wanted to support the Kent community but I will do so in other ways... read more

My husband and I went to the Kent YMCA a couple of months ago and got a wonderful tour. The place looks shiny new and has so much to offer! We knew we would join, but were still settling in to the area, so we were going to wait awhile. Went back in a week ago to sign up and it seemed like none or the employees at the counter wanted to help us do that. We felt very disrespected and left. But - I called and left a message at corporate to let them know how we were treated, and got a call back from Diante Logan - the Membership Supervisor. He was super apologetic, and I could tell he wanted to make it right. He listened to everything I had to say, and talked about how he has been working hard to make things right and what he will do in the future. We went in today, and he got us signed up at a more than fair price, and we are super happy. We were really down on the Y after that experience last week and I wrote a pretty ugly review on here. But Diante turned us back around, for sure. So - I have changed the review! We are really looking forward to getting healthier at the YMCA!!! read more

This is the worst YMCA I have ever been to. The facility is brand new and amazing. BUT the STAFF is not good. We had my son's birthday party there and it was horrible. The party setup was awkward. They made us do food and cake in the party room first which made things rushed because guests arrive at all different times. The party coordinator/supervision Gabby just did not want to make the experience positive in anyway. She was horrible to work with and was not helpful in any way. Also, now I have my son in a basketball camp and that is also poorly run. The two guys just look bored with the kids. They're not making it a fun experience at all. They are getting better with checking people in and the pool hours and availability is definitely getting better as well. I love all their classes, the equipment and how open it is. Went in to inquire about pricing and availability of kids swimming lessons on a slow Monday afternoon. Front desk staff told me that classes are all full until February 2020 and the best is to go online to check for availability. When asked about membership and swimming lesson pricing, I was referred to read the pricing flyer across the hall. This location is brand new. It has a huge gym with all of the equipment that you could imagine including stairclimbers rowing Machines treadmills free weights and the biggest benefit is being able to look down into the pool area and see your kid. That's why I really enjoyed his gym. Most gyms will not allow you to bring your child inside, not even to sit in a safe area upfront. My daughter was able to pass the swim test and get the bracelets so that she can stay in the swim area alone or with her friends that I've also passed the swim test. For four people at $64 a month based on the income information they were provided They have a track that walks over the top of the smaller Gym inside, another way to watch your children . They have Kidzone for smaller and younger children where you can have your child babysat while you're working out or swimming or whatever it is that you're doing there they have another area you can go sit on the computer and there are spaces you can rent for parties. This location just has a ton of things for the entire family. I suggest getting a membership here it's affordable And believe me, the staff is always watching and paying attention. Especially that good old gym attendant. She loves to inquire whether or not your child has done the fitness test so that they could sit inside the workout area. read more

I love the facility! I am a regular member if the Y. I lobe what they stand for and the services they provide to the community. The Kent facility of all the facilities I have been to is the best. They have tons of parking, love the above the bar class, and have tons of equipment, plus an indoor track. Great potential; however a few underlying issues when our family visited the center on a Friday night. First, staff was very polite and accommodating but there was a lack of 'structured organization', meaning members were not aware or did not follow rules in-terms of a family based physical fitness center. Primarily common courtesy in using a fitness center and its amenities. Not enough gym space/basketball goals for individuals not participating in 'pickup' games, part of the gym was used as an overflow for a makeshift kid center, therefore the courts were unavailable. Open gym rules were not clear resulting in full court games being played during open gym, there needs to be a set time or time limit for that level of play. Either half the gym is to be dedicated for that or playing only on half courts, but there needs to be better planning and communication to members (users). Place ended up being a teen center and not a place to 'work out' and play basketball. Also unsupervised small children were using the elevated track. This disrupted members utilizing the track as intended. Observed members using the track more as a social hangout which is ok but again not aware that its a place for physical fitness, regardless if walking or running. For example, runners on the left, walkers on the right and not a group taking up the whole width of the track. This just goes to common courtesy for the primary focus, which is physical fitness. We understand its a new facility, a well designed facility and it has generated alot of interest, but from an operational and functional perspective the fitness center was not what we had in mind for recreational fitness. It is evident there needs to be more planning, coordination with members/users to better align with the intent of the facility. We'll try other times/days in the future and hope there is improvement. read more

We became members at the YMCA right before the Kent location opened in order for my older kids to have swim lessons. So far we have had a good experience. The front desk staff are always friendly and engage nicely with my kids. The family bathroom/locker room always seems reasonably clean though hair on the floor in the showers is kind of gross. People need to clean up after themselves. There are always clean towels for my kids to use and they like the swim instructors they have had so far. I even can push my toddler around in his stroller on the walking track upstairs. I really appreciate that option since I don't think he would do well in the child care center even though it looks like a fun area. So far we are really happy to be using this location. I have been going to this location since it's opened and I have only got the chance to explore the gym and I have had a positive experience! I go about 3-5 times a week and my check-in's are always fast and smooth. If I happen to go when it's packed they find ways to make the process faster. Towels and sprays are usually in stock so I can clean the equipment I use. The gym is set up in a way that does not feel clustered and the machine locations make sense. When I first came someone had broke a part of the mirror and the Y fixed it shortly after because the next time I came in it was fixed (which shows they're attentive to damages) Anyways, they just recently set it up where 18+ is on one side and the rest is on the other and I'll say that I do appreciate it that because sometimes it makes me nervous when I see the young ones experimenting with the heavy stuff and I can't see their guardians around! Overall, I think that Kent seriously needed the Y as it promotes community health. read more

Theft in Locker rooms. Per management there has been on-going theft at the Y. Yesterday both the Women's and Men's locker room were hit. I found out there were 4 thefts occurring in the Women's locker room in the am and 1 in the men's. I heard from members, Management did not appear to be too concerned. Police reported there had been poor communication by the Y to view surveillance. Additionally, I heard Non-members are allowed to enter facility and based on yesterdays incident it appears they are allowed to wonder premises. Otherwise, facility is being maintained and many classes to choose from. Suggestion: Monitor Non-members; other gym's monitor closely or you are not allowed to enter. read more
