The employees are super nice and it was a great way to entertain the kids for a few hours. I can only speak on the children's room. I utilized their study room, available for 2 hours on busy days, longer is accepted when no one is waiting. The library is two stories, equipped with beautiful views of lake mahopac. Adults catch up with their reading or do some work in their laptop. It's the perfect place to study and get lost in books or a study project. Everyone here is extremely kind, especially Tom. You can ask him literally anything and he's there to help, recommend a read, a documentary, or just help you with your card. One of the nicest and most helpful humans to exist! There's plenty of selections here but if you can't find something in person you can always check something out online. Great little library!

I visited the Patterson Library to get a new library card…read more The process was quick and painless. Proof of residency and ID is all you need. Proof of residence can be : Driver's license with address, utility bill in your name, lease agreement, or bank statement to name a few. In any case I simply showed this information, and in minutes poof! Library card. You are allotted 60 minutes to use the computers, however I was magically given an additional 60 when my 10 minute mark reached ( not complaining) I had some issues printing some documents in color, but a very kind associate mediated and resolved the issue in seconds. All in all this library is a super peaceful place with knowledgeable staff, family friendly, has activities for adults and kids:)

Beacon's public library is a great addition to the bustling downtown district! We always make a…read morepoint to visit the local library whenever we travel, and Howland is no exception to many of the wonderful libraries we've visited in the greater New York area! The library is a bit smaller than some of the others (then again, we're spoiled by the vastness of the Mahopac Public Library), but doesn't skimp on book selection and friendliness of the staff. This is also an excellent place to visit with children - their youth section is robust and it always seems like there's some fun programming for kids going on whenever we visit. The Howland Public Library is a definite asset to the Beacon community, and a must-visit to add to your list when you're in town!

It just isn't the most welcome place that it used to be. It's almost like your intruding on their (inappropriate) colleague conversations, instead of the warm welcome I used to get when I entered.

I was blown away by my wonderful experience at the Beekman Library. I went there to sign up for a…read morelibrary card and every staff member was so helpful and pleasant. I was welcomed to town and received a helpful Welcome Bag. I was able to quickly sign up for my card and then I was easily able to use the e-catalog (after a brief tutorial from the staff). The library is clean, well maintained and felt very "community minded". Though the range of books is small anything you are looking for can easily be requested from their library system. Coming from a very large library system where no one ever looked me in the eye much less greeted me by name - this library rocks! As a bonus, they were having a book sale in their basement and it was a great place to pick up a few books I had been looking for while supporting this great community resource. Bravo Beekman Library!
