I've got my own library locally to visit for books, reference material, periodicals, media, etc., but if I lived in Marlboro I'd be at their library often. Besides a good inventory of books, there's several dozen periodicals available, a movie library, several computers, and more. In this age of ever-increasing dependence on digital, they're keeping current. But what I really like is that they have a large children's area - it's important to get children interested in reading (and libraries) at an early age. They have 2 large parking lots which can easily hold regulars and folks who might be attending a function in the Community Room. The bathrooms are always clean and well-maintained too. The Community Room has enough space, tables, and chairs to accommodate several dozen people. Multimedia services are available. There's also a side prep room with a small but full-service kitchen. I've always found the staff of the library to be extremely friendly and helpful. You should take advantage of their occasional fund-raisers, such as their book sales too.

Every time I visit I see people of all ages using computers, being tutored, selecting books, it makes my heart happy!

The kids section is wonderful though. They have a ton of books (obviously), computers, a coloring area, puzzles, and toys. I love it. One day I will go back by myself to peruse the rest of the library. The librarians are always so sweet and helpful. If you download the app you can get tons of ebooks and audiobooks as well. The audiobooks have been VERY helpful on my long commute.

They effectively ousted a group of middle school students because they sat in the younger kid section. They have no real area in the library for them, yet wouldn't let them sit in the window seats. The old, white haired lady at the circulation desk spent most of her time biting everyone's head off-have never felt less welcome in a library before.

I stopped in and found the friendliest and most helpful staff., Joe shared some of the building's history as well as signed me up for a new library card. The next day I brought my two visiting grandkids so they could appreciate the history. The upstairs staff was also so friendly and shared more of the library's history. I love this community!

I'm not sure if the staff are volunteers or employees, but they consistently come across as having a chip on their shoulder. Today, I visited with my kids (ages 5-8), one of whom is on the autism spectrum. His stimming and occasional grunting are normal behaviors for him, but the staff showed no empathy or understanding. Instead, one employee repeatedly checked on us, constantly reminding us to lower our voices and enforcing rules without considering the circumstances. The overall atmosphere felt unwelcoming and overly rigid, especially for a place that should encourage children to learn, explore, and feel comfortable. While I understand the need for order, there's a balance between maintaining rules and being flexible enough to allow kids to be kids. I truly hope the library staff can undergo some training in inclusivity and customer service so it can become a space that feels welcoming to all members of the community.

Although most visitors don't make it to the area surrounding the mall, you should know that Woodbury is literally surrounded by State Parks, most notably Harriman State Park, West Point and the Storm King Arts Center. The Bedford Free Library is a staple in Bedford Village. Located in the heart of "downtown" with…read moreplenty of free street parking available, the library is perfectly situated between what used to be the old firehouse (now OHHO) and other businesses (real estate offices, nail salons, the deli, etc.). I have been coming to the BFL since I was in pre-school. I attended book clubs here, participated in writing competitions, and every summer, I looked forward to the summer reading challenge. I have wonderful memories of walking to the library after school ended at BVES and scavenging through the place searching for my next book. In middle and high school, I would beg my parents to drop me off at the library so I could do work upstairs at the comfortable desks. The BFL has always been a warm, inviting place. I truly have great memories here and appreciate everything they do for the community. Libraries are so essential, and this place is extra special. All of the individuals who work here are friendly and helpful, as well!

Pawling's library is one of those places where everyone knows everyone. The kids come hang out in…read morethe afternoons and get lost in the books. Adults catch up with their reading or do some work in their laptop. It's the perfect place to study and get lost in books or a study project. Everyone here is extremely kind, especially Tom. You can ask him literally anything and he's there to help, recommend a read, a documentary, or just help you with your card. One of the nicest and most helpful humans to exist!
