Ken's Fresh Fish was one of our favorite local food stops! Everything tasted incredibly fresh and was cooked to order. We had the coconut shrimp, calamari, and fresh fish, and everything was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. We especially loved that it felt like a true local spot. If you're exploring and want fresh seafood with great flavor, definitely make a stop at Ken's. We loved it and would absolutely come back! read more

The absolute best Ahi Katsu fix on the island! Tell me I'm not the only one who will drive completely across the island just to satisfy a craving! Whenever I need an Ahi Katsu fix, Ken's Fresh Fish in Laie is our absolute go-to destination. On our last trip, we decided to try the Opah Katsu alongside our usual order, and wow! Both had the most absolute perfect crunch! The fish is incredibly fresh, perfectly fried, and drizzled beautifully with sauce. It is worth every bit of the drive from the Ewa . Outstanding flavor, great quality, and a definitive must-stop if you're up on the North Shore. 10/10! read more

Ken's Fresh Fish - Couldn't wait to eat it. There's a third missing. Well worth the price. - Seafood Near Me - Laie, Hawaii

The best ahi katsu on the Island. Grab a plate, some poke, and fresh fish to cook later and it's well worth the 70 mile circle island drive. The fresh ahi katsu, huge! 14-16oz, panko crusted and deep fried medium or well done. It is topped with a combo of sweet katsu sauce and garlic mayo all over a bed of rice and a simple pile of dressed lettuce. Always look for the second fresh fish of the day. If available, the ono done katsu style eclipses the ahi. Just the nature of the fish, it is more tender and moist. Total weight is again, about a pound. Note: Fish can also be prepared in garlic butter. It's good but come on, garlic butter vs deep fried in a crispy coating? Good selection of half pound pre weighed containers of fresh ahi poke (ahi sesame ogo, just sayin') and fresh fish filets including ahi, mahi, ono, and marlin. Go early for best selection. Inexpensive. As of November 2025, $16/regular plate. Fresh fish filets, $7.50 / lb less than Costco. Fresh poke, $10/half pound. Cash or card. Same price. No nonsense counter service. Takeaway only. IMPORTANT: they are not active on socials. Last minute closures are posted on their door. Have a backup plan of where to eat ready. All that said, the best and based on the crowd of locals every visit, word is out. read more

Portions were great, very fresh and cooked perfectly. Coconut shrimp was the best! The ahi steak was excellent!

This place is PHENOMENAL. I could eat here every day. I love just how insanely fresh their fish is, and also how they prepare it. My parents like their ahi katsu, while I like their mahi mahi tacos and mahi mahi plate the most. The best kept secret is their Poisson Cru-- it was so good that I wanted it for dinner the exact same day that I ate it for lunch. The service is to-go only and you order at the counter. Ken is usually the one taking orders. He's fast and efficient and will not be making small talk or smiling at the customers, but he sure runs an incredible business. There is a sign in the place that says takeout only, you cannot eat there. However, they do have benches for customers to sit on while they wait for their food to be prepared. The mahi mahi tacos take a while for them to make; so just be prepared for longer wait times if you order those. It's really worth the wait, though! Since the place is takeout only, all I can say for the ambiance is that it's focused on efficiency and cleanliness, rather than on fancy decor or a certain look. read more

Ken's Fresh Fish - Ahi katsu, spicy ahi poke - Seafood Near Me - Laie, Hawaii

Finally got to make it back to Ken's during short stay in Oahu last year. Been hooked on poke and trying so many places. Was too full from eating a large poke bowl, but couldn't pass up the chance to try the poke here. Just got the spicy ahi poke from the fridge and ate it in the parked car. Wowsers, I gotta say this was super fresh and the smoothest poke I've had. Didn't have much mayo or other flavors, but packed enough heat to add to the enjoyment of the smooth buttery bites. It leaves that buttery coating feel on the teeth that bite through the pieces. And no chewy pieces either. It was simply an absolutely awesome quality poke... Need sushi rice with the poke to have the best meals, but didn't have the stomach space to get the rice. And not sure if they serve sushi rice or white rice. If it's white rice, then I won't care for it. But if it's sushi rice for the bowls, OMG... Next time... Need to get that great katsu again, but I now know the poke is a must have too! read more

I've been going to Ken's for years. Fish and prices are unbeatable, however today I received the worst customer service ever. I'm in my 70's and coming from the east side of island. With the long drive and gas prices so high, I called to see what kinds of fresh fish they had today. I was told that I'd have to come in and check. I said I was coming from quite a distance and then asked if they had a certain fish. Again I was told to come in and check my self. I told her it's a 2hr drive. She said "oh well, that's my problem" Too bad. I love the quality of his fish, but absolutely cannot stand rude and unprofessional customer service. I will look for another place to buy fish. read more

If you find yourself on the north shore of Ohau, you MUST visit Ken's fresh fish. Highly suggest the ahi katsu. It blew us away and was surprisingly such a large serving!! We waited maybe 5-7 minutes for our food. My only wish is there was outdoor seating of some sort (unless we didn't see it). But overall, highly recommend. I will be dreaming of this meal for the foreseeable future! read more

I was so impressed by Ken's Fresh Fish!!! This is such a hidden gem in Laie and I would drive out from town any day of the week to eat here. The price, quality of fish and taste is unbeatable. I highly recommend what we ordered (ahi katsu plate and spicy ahi bowl) so you can have the best of both worlds. There's no seating here, so I'd also recommend taking your lunch to the beach to enjoy. My only regret is not buying fresh fish to go. Hope to be back real soon! read more

Ken's Fresh Fish - Spicy ahi bowl and ahi katsu - Seafood Near Me - Laie, Hawaii

A little fishermen's gem located all the way in Laie, it sure was worth the drive from town. Taking in the beautiful scenery away from the city was just what I needed. As a big katsu lover -- of course I ordered their popular Ahi Katsu for $15. It was a big hearty portion! I love that it's half salad and half rice which balances the dish more. I even had some leftovers the next day. Ken took our order and it took about 15 minutes. They have fresh ahi in their fridge too. Takeout only. Wooden benches to sit inside while you wait. Parking in the front available. Tip: I recommend calling to make sure they are still open, online said it was open till 5pm but when I arrived the sign said 3:45pm so we barely made it in time. Will definitely come back! read more

Service was quick and efficient. Area was clean and well taken care of. Most importantly, the food was AMAZING! We had the ahi katsu and garlic ahi; both were delicious! Amazing food! Very causal. Walk up counter service. Short wait, unless you order items that are tagged as 'extra time'. To-go only. There is a bench for waiting, but there is no seating for service. While you wait, there's a variety of baked goods, poke, t-shirts, and local artists' items to browse. I had heard great things about Ken's Fresh Fish, so I'm glad I finally had a chance to stop in. I'm sad I hadn't tried before! I definitely will be back. Pro tip. Get there before they open. They get busy! We got there just as they were opening, and the parking was almost full as people were already there waiting for them to open. read more

My husband had the sashimi from here a few days ago and raved about it, so we came back to try other things. I had the grilled ahi sandwich and it was incredible! I loved the slaw and the sauce that was in it and the combination of those along with the ahi was perfect! So, so delicious!! My husband had the ahi katsu and said it was amazing and had such good flavor! My girls ordered the poke and really liked it but they wished it had more sauce for the rice and that the fish was cut into a little smaller pieces. Overall we loved our meals and will definitely be back for more. read more

Fresh and delicious. Poké taste and texture are amazing. Spicy and Sweet chili had more flavor than shoyu. Ahi katsu was an absolute banger. The mini portions are a good serving size for lunch. Heard good things about this spot and have been meaning to come here, hands down amazing food and large portions. Ordered a small coconut shrimp and full sized ahi with mango salsa Coconut shrimp $10, hands down the BEST coconut shrimp I've had! Soooo crunchy! Tastes just like fresh coconut shavings on there and the shrimp was fairly huge. If you want tot ray anything, try this! Ahi with mango salsa $15 - for the slab of ahi you get for $15, it's INSANEEE! I ordered it medium rare and it was soooo good! Definitely a far drive away but the food was awesome! Plus the price especially for Hawaii?! Crazy worth it read more

It's always nice to stumble on a quiet spot in an out of the way place that nails it, and Ken's Fresh Fish is just such a place. If you like fresh fish, and find your self in Laie you definitely have to stop in. My wife had the ahi Katsu sándwich, and she devoured it in no time. I didn't do as well, not because the fish katsu plate wasn't great (it was) but because the portion was HUGE. Two people can easily share the fish plate, which had two large portions of ono, seasoned well. No place to dine in, as they are set up for take out only. Good place to buy fresh fish, if you're staying in the area and have a place to cook it yourself. read more

It wasn't inedible ‍... Decided to take a chance since we were picking up eggs next door and hangry. There were quite a few visitors waiting for and enjoying their food. The menu is simple so ordering was easy. I got the ahi with butter garlic cooked medium and my date got the ono Katsu. No dine-in so when our order was ready we jumped in the car and cruised to the beach. Opening the containers we were impressed with the size and presentation. Sadly, that's where it ended. My ahi was " meh". Not enough garlic and overcooked. They offer the fish cooked medium or well. Being local I would have picked rare but okay. Medium it is. Unfortunately it was cooked all the way through and dry. My dates ono was a little less than ono. Again, being local you know what fresh fish tastes like and this was not it. Definitely wouldn't go back. But I'm guessing that they won't care because they have plenty of visitors. read more

We've been trying to dine here since the COVID-19 pandemic struck Oahu in March 2020. Every time credit drive by, they were closed! Auwe! Today, they were finally OPEN! The ordering system is convoluted. 1. Call their number and order your food. 2. Go to the door and pay. a. They now accept credit cards! 3. Wait 10-15 minutes for your order to be cooked! 4. Take your order, find a place to park with a view and enjoy! Your fresh fish is cooked to order. The ahi katsu is the most popular dish ordered. Was it worth it? Oh yeah! Woo hoo! read more

Ok so you have to call and order. The food doesn't start getting made till you have paid. You don't step inside the shop. It's a 20 min drive from Sharks cove but the drive back to Waikiki beach is beautiful and highly recommended if you have the time. I would recommend skipping the food trucks right across sharks cove and heading straight down here. The fish is fresh. Beautifully done. Katsu is a type of deep frying the fish and even then you know the fish is fresh and flaky and flavorful. It comes with salad and rice. And is a lot of food for a person. Split it with someone of you can and then order their fish tacos. The corn tortillas are legit. The fish inside is fresh. The accompaniments are spot on. These are good fish tacos. I frankly feel that fish tacos are the hardest to get right and ken's has got it. I will visit this place everyone I'm in the north shore. Low key, good food, and the perfect pit stop after a beach day at north shore. read more

We were staying in Laie and found this place on Yelp. Decided to stop by after a beach day. Definitely come early as they run out of food. Very generous portions and the fish is super tasty!
