Fuller Middle School is one of the three middle schools in Framingham. Walsh and Cameron are the…read moretwo others and all three move up and into Framingham High or you can select Keefe Tech. There are other private middle schools available and the McAuliffe Charter School as well. Fuller is a very big school since it once was a High School. That said, there is plenty of room for all of the students. They offer lots of activities including recreation, clubs, fitness, drama, music and so much more. They group the children by grades into colors and each team of colors has a team of teachers. So although the space seems large the students are usually in the same area for their classes. They have a 6 day rotating weekly schedule and a rotating daily schedule. It may seems confusing at first but the students do get use to it very quickly and move about the day and the week quite smoothly. This is a wonderful option since they won't have the same class each day at the same time. As we all know we can all be worn out at the end of the day so this rotation gives each class some morning and afternoon time. They offer French and Spanish for language and do some very cool projects (in all their classes). Many of the teachers have a variety of electronic resources to help teach the students during class and help you as a parent follow their work, projects, tests etc. Emailing the teachers, the guidance office, staff, and/or principal is helpful since it is a direct line for more info and/or clarification. The morning starts early since the buses transport all the kids in town so the HS students are first out, then the middle school, and lastly the elementary kids are dropped off. With Middle school out goes scheduled parent teacher conference. This can make it a bit tough when working schedules don't mess. If you want to meet with your child's team of teachers. There is no particular day or time so if you need or want to then call the office to set up an appointment. They will set up a time when the team is not in class to meet with you. School begins in August and ends mid to late June (depending on snow days) Don't buy any supplies as each student will be given a list of items to get in the first week (or so). They coordinate an orientation for new students coming from the elementary school and those going to either Keefe and/or Framingham High School. They are only offered at particular times of the year so if you happen to miss it you can all any of the schools for a tour and some information. Middle school can be a tough time for parents and students. We've had our ups and downs as do many parents with teens so be proactive and get involved with the school, class, with the teachers, staff, and find out how you can help and support your child as they transition into young adults.

One time someone looked over the bathroom stall and spread a rumor about me that lasted years and the principal barely punished him at all. Lunch tables basically never cleaned so it's always sticky and gross. There is a rule that if it's the block after lunch you aren't allowed to go to the bathroom, which is a dumb rule. You have basically no freedom to do anything. You can't even wear a hat or hood. Overall, this school sucks.

This is the original Sudbury model school, and the largest in the world…read more Each Sudbury school uses a self-governing process, many following a town-meeting model and starting with a basic set of rules determined by its school community. I helped start another Sudbury school and have visited many more. Among truly democratic educational options in west metro Boston, this is by far the best. We are just so darned lucky to have our son at SVS. I'm very grateful they are fighting the good fight and providing Massachusetts with a fantastic, authentic, self-directed educational choice. During my years teaching and before that studying K12 education, I discovered that many models began with excellent theories of students' free exploration. In this way, some models seem similar to the Sudbury movement. But the implementation of most other models against the backdrop of our current public system urges a kind of subliminal compliance when educators attempt to implement something different. For those bold enough to trust both the Sudbury Valley School and their own children, the reward will be amazingly self-aware, happy young adults when their kids are grown. Its with a fondness and joy that I follow the lives of my former students, now starting their own families, passionately involved in innovative careers, and following their hearts by living according to their own preferences. They don't simply make a living. They know deeply who they are; they adore expressing themselves fully with and in their lives. It's like watching live performance art over decades. What an amazing gift to give our next generation! I can't wait to continue witnessing my child blossom into the fullness of his being here at Sudbury Valley.

I have heard nothing good above 5th grade, and the core challenge of the program is not having enough special needs kids to make a peer group for them socially. It often feels like administrators are more focused on punishment than understanding what is actually happening. There have been multiple situations where I felt unheard, embarrassed, and unfairly disciplined without my side of the story being considered. Students deserve to feel safe, respected, and supported at school, not constantly judged. I hope the school takes student concerns more seriously and realizes that the way adults treat students can have a lasting impact.
