As a Wyndham platinum member, I can say I've had my share of nights staying in La Quinta hotels,…read moreincluding this one. This particular location has never been a favorite, as the parking lot feels like it's in a sketchy part of town and not very safe, and the hotel itself is OK, but the rooms have never been what I would consider a Wyndham standard. This last stay, however, was absolutely the straw that broke the camels back for me with this location.
I got to the hotel after a long day at approximately 9:30 PM and was assigned to a room on the second floor. I proceeded to the second floor and opened the door to find that there was no striker plate on the door frame, causing the door not to latch properly. Begrudgingly, I entered the room to a neighboring TV that was so loud, I could literally hear every single word coming through the wall. Irritating, but by that is just an inconvenience caused by an inconsiderate patron.
The last straw with this room was the black hair in the bed (I'm blonde, so for sure it wasn't mine) and the urine stained toilet, both definitely the fault of the hotel housekeeping staff. I packed my things back up and went downstairs to ask for a different room. The girl behind the desk was lovely (the only good part of my stay), and did her best to accommodate my needs, reassigning me to a room on the third floor. So, after a long hard day of driving in from 4 hours away and then working a full day, I headed back upstairs to try to get some much-needed rest in the new room.
Surprise! The key didn't work. Sigh. So, I headed back downstairs to get a new key. She apologized profusely and re-activated the key before ushering me off to try to get some rest for the third time.
Unfortunately, the key still didn't work.
At this point, it was after 11 PM and I was exhausted and upset, so I called the front desk from my cell phone right there in the hall. The desk attendant came back up to try to reset it with her laptop. Four tries on her part, to no avail...Even HER key refused to work. She was extremely apologetic and attempted to find me another room, but they were fully booked for the night, so in desperation, I asked her for some Lysol wipes and told her I'd go back to the first room and just clean the toilet. She offered to clean it, but as it was well after midnight at this point, and she was alone, I told her I'd do it. A few minutes later, she reappeared with several Lysol wipes, a pair of purple latex gloves, and some hand sanitizer, repeating her heartfelt apology and offering once more to clean it for me.
Fast forward: I get back in the room to clean the toilet and find that the tank had been broken at some point in the past and some maintenance person had done a horrible job of trying to patch it back together with something porous. The urine stains that resulted were impregnated in the porous substance and wouldn't come off. The urine on the toilet seat did, however, so I was able to at least use the facility very carefully after I cleaned it. I slept in my clothes on top of the bed to avoid the hairy sheets and went to work in the next day unshowered and in a foul mood because even the shower was suspect enough that I didn't want to get in it.
I cancelled my second night first thing the next morning and attempted to tell the young man at checkout about the issues so he could send someone from maintenance to deal with it or maybe tell a manager. However, he could have cared less, so I'm sure that that room still looks the way I left it.
I have worked in property management for well over 20 years, and a brand new toilet costs $97 from the Lowe's right up the street from this location. Combine that with an eight dollar wax ring and about two hours of knowledgeable maintenance labor, and that would have fixed the toilet issue-the cost of my stay for the night would have covered a brand new toilet.
I will not be staying in this location again, and have alerted Wyndham corporate of the disappointing nature of my stay. If this has been a one time deal, I may just have let it go, but every time I've stayed in this particular location, it has been a disappointment. This last time was so bad, however, that I thought it best to warn others by writing this honest review before they book there.
The Portland location is MUCH better-try them if you're in the area and need a place to land. I really hope Wyndham addresses the issues at this location-it is damaging to their overall reputation. .
