I have been camping here since I was a kid and I absolutely love it! The riverside sites are huge and extremely private but they book up fast so you must reserve online well in advance. Reservations are made through the Recreation.gov site. There are some really cool tent sites on the riverside that are just above the river and you have to climb down stairs to access them.
The main campground is very well established so the trees are all mature and there is lots of shade. There are two bathhouses but a disappointing few number of showers, which is my only complaint about this campground. In addition to the main campground, there is also an Annex. This is a newer section and the trees are still smaller here yet. In another twenty years, the Annex sites will be nice and shaded. I prefer the riverside sites but will book an Annex site if those are not available. The Annex has its own playground, dump station, and bathhouse. The bathhouse in the Annex is actually nicer than the ones in the main campground so that is one positive to that section!
You can walk to the river, walk to the trout stream to fish, ride your bike, hike the trail, or walk to the Fish Hatchery and Visitor's Center next door. There is a little snack shack in the day use area that has an awesome breakfast menu, rents kayaks, sells basic supplies including ice and bait. read more
