I suggested to the administration that they never let her go. MY GRATITUDE TO YOU ELLEN. The KITCHEN STAFF works hand-in-hand with Ellen. Every activity is always accompanied by lovely food treats. As a unique example, on the BABY SHOWER DAY, the kitchen staff had carved a watermelon in the shape of a baby. That same CREATIVITY is shown in the kitchen also. ACTIVITIES AND THE KITCHEN FIT TOGETHER LIKE A HAND IN A GLOVE. I know just a couple of the kitchen staff -- Justin Harris and Stephanie -- but you can tell that all of them work very hard to keep the residents strong and healthy. Justin remarked to me that these residents are "family" and you can just feel that coming through.

Short staffed on many occasions, relative would ring call button for 2 hours and then have to go out into facility to find someone to assist. Food is awful, lots of dry turkey sandwiches, undercooked, bland fish, leftover soup ( everything leftover thrown in pot and called soup). If my relative never sees squash agin it will be too soon as served on almost daily basis. Switched to poor quality adult briefs and liners. Finally had enough and moved relative out of this facility and even that was difficult. Facility doctors dropped ball on who was covering my relative and refused to release medication records to new facility. Relative had to go without medications 1 day until new facility was able to evaluate and determine medications needed.

The food was excellent. So many programs offered! My mom was even allowed to "rent" out party rooms for family get-togethers/baby shower. The staff was great, too. One of the nurses, literally, saved my mom's life after she suffered a heart attack by performing CPR. Sadly, we had to move my mom to the nursing home behind the independent living building. All I can say is STAY AWAY from the nursing home. I was expecting it to run as smoothly and professionally as the independent living place, but was dead wrong. Half the time, no one answers the phone, which is disconcerting. They lost family photos we brought for her room. And when she moved to hospice, they threw all of her belongings in a garbage bag--including pants and a lamp that didn't belong to her AND some paperwork on another patient which is a huge HIPAA violation. So really, this review is twofold: independent living at Normandy = GREAT; nursing home at Normandy = CRAP

Every person there I have been in contact with has been forthcoming with any questions I may have & react quickly with any requests I have as well as keeping me updated on his actions & state of mind. He's physically looked the best he has been in months--even his doctors have commented on that. He's getting the best care & is in the right place at the right time. Having once been in the seminary and a pastoral minister, I've been in and out of a lot of nursing home senior living facilities. This place is tops! Really! All the staff are extraordinarily kind, warm, patient (no pun intended) and attentive to the needs of the residents. My mom couldn't have been better cared for. They always looked in on her to make sure she was alright. They treated mom (Marie) with dignity and respect, patience and kindness. Although once sponsored by the Lutheran Church, they have a very Catholic presence. The Diocese of Cleveland provides a priest to offer Mass there every Sunday, and they have a wonderful sister (nun) from Africa who is the coordinator. When mom died, I gave her whatever she wanted from her room. The food seemed adequate. But the most important thing was the atmosphere of real care and concern. It's nothing short of remarkable.
