Called Ken after a few rooms randomly lost power. With my very limited knowledge of the electricity field, I went out to the breaker box and did not see any switches flipped. Unfortunately, none of the switches are labeled either :( Figuring I had nothing to lose I flipped the main power switch off then on but, of course, that didn't work. Having two bathrooms AND the family room TV without power, I looked up a local electrician hoping I could get some help before the end of the day. I found Ken here on Yelp with great reviews and dialed. I explained the above and he asked me a few simple questions to troubleshoot over the phone. He explained that sometimes they will trip but the switch will stick and not actually flip to off, and to manually flip each one off and then back on; and then said if that did not work to call him back and he would try to get someone out. I went outside and did as he suggested, and it worked! YAY! Might sound simple to some of you but I hadn't thought of it and was more concerned with keeping and eye on my two little ones. So having said that, I am very happy to know that there are people like Ken who will gladly troubleshoot some simple options over the phone instead of just coming out and charging a service fee to do that himself. You just *know* when it's a rodent. But I didn't know who on earth to call!! It dawned on me: perhaps an...electrician? Would that be the person you call for a rodent in an appliance?! Actually, yes. Ken Hansen was able to clean out the rodent safely and effectively from the unit. I was concerned about the electrical but he assured me that the rodent hadn't eaten through the wiring and my dryer was safe. He had the machine hooked up and running in no time. 01-28-2018 We bought a "fixer" in a nice area of Calabasas, CA. Ken did a small job for us before on a previous home and did a good job, so we hired him to assist with this big project. In short, he and his crew did a good job for part of the electrical work...(the upselling attempts were not appreciated). At this point we had spent in excess of $7,000.00 with quite a bit of work to go. We called him again as well as emails and texts which went unanswered, to have a discussion about the remainder of the work, and he failed to return our calls. A week later, we hired another electrical contractor who completed the job without any challenges. "No shows" are not an uncommon issue in the construction trades...I wish Ken and his crew all the best, it is unfortunate that he could not complete his commitment. He used high-quality fittings that are not readily available in stores like Home Depot and Lows. After my microwave exploded and knocked out all the breakers in my condo (joy) SCE did not really help much in trying to resolve my problem. The next day I realized the short had also done some damage to my electric water heater and garbage disposal. After calling around town for answers, someone finally recommended that I call Ken and get some real on site help. Ken and his team made it over that same day and diagnosed my problems and removed the faulty Microwave and made sure the wiring was in order. He then came back the next day to make sure my new water heater and disposal were also wired correctly so that I would not have any future issues! All in all finding Ken when I did was a life saver. Much overdue review. Several months ago, Ken and his crew came out. They mounted and hung our 54" tv, installed 2 ceiling fans, converted 2 old fluorescent canned lights to energy efficient lights, and converted my undercabinet kitchen lighting. All in just a few hours. They did a great job on everything and I would definitely recommend them. Ken also made suggestions of other improvements that he has done for other clients, in case these were improvements we would be Interested in and I appreciated that. I have been using Ken for a couple of years and cannot recommend him highly enough. I've hired him to do work in my home and at my business. Ken's prices are fair, and the quality of the work he does is second to none. He is straightforward and honest. I trust him completely. One other thing to note: Ken doesn't jack up prices once he's started a project which is common among electricians. So if another guy says it's $400 to do a job and Ken quotes $550, it's likely better to go with Ken because the cheaper guy will come back to you halfway through and tell you it's another $85 for this and $160 for that, oh and I have to drill this thing and that's another $150.... So, the lights in the kitchen and all the power outlets save the stove went out in the kitchen. The electrician hired by the home warranty company looked around and said that the issue was one of electric overloading and that he needed to break down a wall to add more lines. Staring down the barrel, I looked up Ken on Yelp and he fixed the problem the same afternoon. It ended up being a simple fix (for a trained electrician) of following the problem to its root and fixing it (turned out to be a loose connection in the switch box). $95 was all he charged. Could have been more than $5K with the other guys, which would not have fixed the problem as well. Very responsive, knowledgeable and extremely reasonable rates. read more
